Heat Shield

5:23PM

We are in one great weather pattern. Though you may be a little disappointed if you love heat and humidity, because both, especially heat, will be rather absent as far as typical Augusts go, at least for the first 10 days of the month.

Interruptions in an otherwise fair weather pattern courtesy ofΒ  a trough in eastern Canada will come in the form of a cold frontΒ  passing through the region from west to east through early Friday, and a secondary disturbance crossing the area on Saturday. There may be a cloud-producing disturbance or two during the course of early to mid next week, but a largely dry weather pattern will have become established.

Forecast for southeastern New England (southern NH, eastern MA, and RI)…

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Episodes of showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms. Patchy fog forming overnight. More humid. Lows in the 60s. Wind SW-S 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy through mid morning with lingering showers/thunderstorms. Partly to mostly sunny late morning on. Humid morning then gradually drying afternoon. Highs middle 70s to lower 80s, coolestΒ  South Coast. Wind SW-W 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows upper 50s to lower 60s. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Slight chance of a couple passing showers or thunderstorms mainly afternoon to early evening. Highs upper 70s to middle 80s. Wind W 10-20 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy early. Mostly clear late. Lows upper 50s to lower 60s. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny morning. Partly sunny afternoon. Highs 75-80. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 56. High 78.

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 59. High 79.

WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 56. High 78.

THURSDAY: Increasing clouds. Low 57. High 77.

  1. Thanks TK

Sue we absolutely loved the chowder. Everyone did. Thanks to you and John for telling us about Oliverias. Joyce was not there yet but mac did ask πŸ™‚

    1. I am so glad you enjoyed it. I am sure I have told you before but my husband won’t get chowder anywhere else now.

  2. Thanks TK.

I am looking forward to a good stretch of days with no HHH. Any chance most of August will be like that? πŸ˜€

    1. watch the hot humid weather probably will return when i have band camp it always does lol, we we can go without a single shower

  3. The HHH weather has the “potential” of being done. I don’t see a change to this cool pattern for the foreseeable future.

      1. And if you believe a less reliable guidance, then it goes all the
way to Aug. 16 and probably then some…. πŸ˜€

              1. He He He. I’ll believe it when I see it. AND, for a few weeks WELL worth having the fresh air, so IF I have to re-install it, no biggie. πŸ˜€

      2. I’m going to make the bold prediction that Boston does not see 90 degrees for the rest of 2013!

      1. And that’s not cool???????? This MUST be coming from Joe Joyce. I don’t trust ANYTHING he says. πŸ˜€

  4. August 1? Cool pattern for another 10 days+? That’s all nice and everything, but Summer runs until late September. I’m not making the early call mistake. πŸ™‚

We have seen time and time and time again that even when all signs suggest something (that is, guidance has a certain pattern for several runs in a row), they miss on the end of the pattern and suddenly it’s all flipped another way. Too early to call it over.

It did end a bit early in 1988 (August 15) so of course it’s possible, but that date is still 2 weeks away.

    1. I called for NO MORE SNOW earlier than you thought I should have earlier this year, and it worked for me last go around πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

      1. You sure did, but you also know that most years it doesn’t happen like that. πŸ™‚

Ironically 3 out of the last 4 it has. Short term trend.

    2. Sure it could flip and I’ve seen it hit 100 in September too, but I also could hit the Lottery, but it’s not going to happen. I’m not feeling it. We shall see.

  5. Vicki you were in my neighborhood. The chowder is awesome and pizza as well. My wife was in there last night. Wish I had known. But on the other hand been busy at work logging 52 hours this week.

    1. I drove through the area several times last week with my youngest who hopes when school loans are paid to move there it’s a lovely town

  6. Amazing how Dorian, or remnants thereof, won’t quit.

    http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

Absolutely one of the most head-strong Atlantic lows I’ve seen. It beat everything — wind shear, dry air, Saharan dust storms, cooler waters, etc. I don’t think it will become tropical, but it won’t give up. I can’t imagine what would have happened if the conditions had been hurricane favorable.

    1. Amazing Longshot,

I already attended funeral services for Dorian the other night.

Wouldn’t it be something if it ends up a Hurricane after all??????

  7. Arod you called for no snow towards the end of march which is not a tough call to make πŸ™‚ you were right but TK held on but I just don’t think making a call around march 15 is a big deal.

  8. At an average temp of 81/66 for Logan, yesterday’s 82/66 was pretty much normal, if not ever so slightly above.

There’s no doubt the pattern is keeping heat away, however, in 7-10 days, I think the temp departures are going to be pretty much around normal, versus being cooler than normal. It will be interesting to see what the departures are around the 10th.

    1. Again,

      My pet meteorological peeve.

It was AVERAGE. It could be 10 degrees either way and still be perfectly normal. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  9. Phew….

Made it into work after dodging big puddles and flooded roads after
that deluge last night. Definitely an easy 1-2 inches!!! NOT!!! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

The NWS last night was a JOKE! πŸ˜€
I knew that wasn’t going to verify.

But, I guess I’m just an cynical Old curmudgeon.

      1. That’s HILARIOUS, absolutely HILARIOUS.

I need to get up from the floor……………….. πŸ˜€

  10. Tk how come you hate people saying winters over or summers over even if they may be right? I agree I think summer heat 90+ is done, 13 days and fall seedings begin

    1. I know your question is for TK, but I hope you dont mind if I respond also ….

In my opinion, if we say, long lasting, hot weather is over for this year, that sounds like a reasonable prediction to me. I think its a reasonable prediction because of the condition, which is …. long lasting, hot weather.

If the prediction is……. Summer is over for the year, then that doesnt sound reaonable to me. Why, because …. Summer in New England in August is not 88F + everyday. Its low 80s at month’s beginning and upper 70s by months end.

I considered yesterday a summer’s day. I consider this morning’s mild, humid conditions summery. To me, 80F with mid 50F dewpoints are summery.

So, maybe someone can clarify for me …..

      What are we saying ….

Is it that we think summer’s over or that consistent, hot weather (90F +) is over ? I think there’s a huge difference and I know I’d give a different answer to both.

  11. Geeez!! almost 3 times as many Rolling Stones magazines sold the past week in a half bc of the bomber on magazine, if that doesn’t tell ya something about country than I don’t know what will, I love the nice weather,

      1. And guess where they sold most of them, NY state and all the south and west bought the rolling stone magazine specifically bc the loser was on magazine, I’ve tried to forewarn that half this country hates us, anyways enough of that rant, good day all πŸ™‚

        1. Not sure why you turn everything into a negative for Boston but I wish you would not…..Esoecially snything to do with this tragic event. Buying the magazine had nothing to do with dislike for Boston.

          1. I don’t think I do, but just being very honest that when I lived in that terrible state of Texas, a lot if times with conversation I’ve had people try and tell me not just once but on numerous occasions that this area the news lies to us and there are quite a few people there (crazy people) normal for Texas that say we r not free, I’m not kidding, we turn a blind eye to a lot and this seems to be no different

    1. Merlin,
      Which Answer to Which Post?
I don’t know you, so I can’t really tell whether you are being sarcastic or not
      with that post. πŸ˜€

      1. If Merlin doesn’t return it was your answer as to when it would rain in hingham OS. Good answer btw πŸ™‚

  12. My issue with calling a season over is really bc if you look at historical data it doesn’t support the call of summer being over on August 1st or winter being over on 3/1.

    1. My son has a bday August 26 and school does not start until September 5. It is still very much summer. πŸ™‚

  13. Heat shield may weaken to allow some areas to approach 90 about next Wednesday or Thursday.

  14. Next 7 days the way I see them…

Saturday: Best shower threat morning to early afternoon, 80+ most areas.
Sunday: Best shower threat afternoon & night time, not as warm but nice.
Monday: Shot of cool, dry “Summer Polar air” as Don Kent used to say.
Tuesday: Moderates a bit, but still quite comfy.
Wednesday: Warm front brings clouds, humidity creeps up, maybe a shower.
Thursday: Heat and humidity, isolated storms.
Friday: Warm and muggy, showers/storms with a cold front.

It’s expanded and detailed in a new blog post!
