Sunday Forecast

***REMINDERS***

If you want to enter the “for fun” snow contest, guess the seasonal snow to the nearest tenth of an inch for any or all of the following locations: Boston, Worcester, Providence, Hartford. Also as a bonus you may guess the date of the first inch of snow at Logan Airport in Boston. DEADLINE IS 9PM TONIGHT!

I will post sometime this evening my own guess on the contest page, and on the main page there will be a special post containing my Winter outlook for 2015-2016.

DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 18-19)…
High pressure will dominate through Wednesday, but as was suspected, the surface temperatures will not reach the potential indicated by the strength of the upper level ridge, because the surface high pressure areas that bring the great weather will also be originating in colder locations to our north, bringing some of that colder air in, and preventing the wind from going around to south or southwest for any prolonged period of time, only possibly briefly by Thursday, which will become an unsettled day as a front approaches from the west. Still, the next 4 days will be very nice for November!
TODAY: Sunshine filtered at times by variable high cloudiness. Highs 50-55. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 25-30 except 30-35 coast and urban areas. Wind W up to 10 MPH.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs in the 50s. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows 25-35. Highs 45-55.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows 25-35. Highs 45-55.
THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. PM rain showers. Lows 35-45. Highs 55-65.

DAYS 6-10 (NOVEMBER 20-24)…
Mild but potentially unsettled November 20-21 as a front and low pressure hang around the region. Becoming fair and somewhat colder November 22-23. Milder but with additional unsettled weather possible November 24.

DAYS 11-15 (NOVEMBER 25-29)…
This period looks at least seasonably cold if not a little colder than normal, at least briefly, with dry weather early to mid period and some risk of unsettled weather (rain or snow) later in the period. Again, being many days away and containing Thanksgiving and the weekend, I know it’s an important forecast but it’s just too early to be sure how it all works out yet. This is just an idea so stay tuned…

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

Seems this upcoming week will be chillier than original thought by
the TV mets. Previously I saw many 60s for this week, now, Not so.

TK was always skeptical about that.

  2. Thanks TK.

I keep trying to post but my iPad gets hung up. May be tomorrow before I have computer on again.

        1. And that system is going to give eastern CO blizzard conditions Monday night into Tuesday. All fairly typical for El Nino. We’ll be seeing more of this.

          1. Not sure if this is a very good question, but I wonder: can a “typical El Nino” cause MORE than the usual snow in any part of the Canada or US?

            1. Not TK,

But typically an El Nino Winter produces more snow for the Sierra’s of CA,
The Southern Rockies (Northern AZ, NM)
and the central Rockies (Utah, CO)

              1. A basically adequate answer. On some occasions the snow will be above normal in the Southeast and sometimes the Mid Atlantic if it’s cold enough at the times it precipitates.

    1. I’m not sure what you mean. When you have a second and can explain why it is different, I’d sure appreciate it. But please take time. Sunday is relaxing or fun day :). Thank you

      1. Hi Vicki …. Different because it rarely precipitated out there last winter, so the radar was always void of precipitation.

        1. Ahhh got it. Thanks Tom. I know first of year is rainy season. I was thinking it was something unusual about the shape

    Thank you

  5. Patriots met their match. Not that the Giants are a better team. They are not. But, they own the Patriots. It’s strange, but the Patriots look out of sorts against the Giants, and never look this way against anyone else.

    1. Win or loose today it’s the injuries that’s going to do the pats in . It’s a key injury every single week with another huge one today . Even at best ankle sprain that will keep him out

        1. Key injuries every week it can be tough to overcome sometimes even for the best teams. Let’s see how it plays out . Lewis was huge and Julian now is bigger . Great win today .

        1. No not at all. I guess what I was saying was if a team can’t stop them you never know down the road injuries may but I hope not. Don’t read into it more than that. Pats are on fire but banged up big time .

          1. No denying they have had their share of injuries, but Bill’s ability to just plug players in to fill holes is remarkable.

  6. Tweet from Ryan Maue This could be why Barry was saying snow possible next Sun.
ECMWF 12z forecasting chance of light snow next Sun/Mon from Chicago, Detroit, Philly, to NYC w/weak boundary ahead of cold high pressure.

    1. Barry is a Euro guy so I’m not surprised about his outlook. One would expect that the average person should factor in the normal confidence drop due to the lack of ability to be super accurate that far in advance. Personally, I’ve seen too much inconsistency in the model lately to just buy it outright.

  7. My heart hasn’t recovered yet. Best game this year!
WOW! and double WOW! They did it.
I thought they were dead at least 3 different times.

  8. I’m a lifelong pessimist, and have been proven wrong by the Patriots … once again. They found a way to win.

  10. Good evening!
Great football game we just saw. Had them all the way… πŸ˜‰

I have posted my Winter forecast on the main page and my snow numbers on the contest page. We can keep the general comment/chat here if you like, but I will frequently check the Winter forecast post for comments/questions as well.

      1. Well there have been some people in the past here that have remarked about how predictable I am. πŸ˜‰

          1. Yes, sorry about that. After yard working all day it was shower time then laundry time then dinner time and football time. Getting to email now. πŸ™‚

  11. the pats might have won against the giants, but the giants gave the patriots a large blow by injuring Julian edelman. He broke a bone in his foot. out for at least 4 weeks.

      1. Look at it this way: The Pats are not going to lose all the games that he’s not here, and even IF they did, they’ll make the playoffs and he’ll be back in time for them. To me, a perfect record is less important than a healthy team for the playoffs. πŸ™‚ And that said, they are fully capable of winning every regular season game they have left, with or without him.

        1. The injury is to Edelman’s fifth metatarsal and is believed to be a true Jones fracture.

ONLY if all goes well does he return for the playoffs.
There is much that can go wrong with this injury.
Let us hope nothing goes wrong.

          What a blow.

          Lucky we have Amendola!!!

  12. I apologize for posting my contest numbers after the 11/15 9pm deadline. I will understand if they are not accepted!
