As you’ve alluded to, and I’ve mentioned, John Barry’s book goes into great detail about the differences in the waves that enveloped the globe in 1918 to 1920. In hindsight it’s probable that mutant versions were responsible for the 2nd and 3rd waves being far more potent than the 1st.
We’re lucky we have vaccines. Even if they don’t work as well against P.1 they’ll probably do something, at least for the majority of people. Without vaccines we’d be in very deep trouble.
Absolutely I had read at the start of this that they second 1918 wave was much stronger. I have not read one way or the other re the third. I do know the virus still exists.
Statewide mask mandate is being allowed to expire in NH tomorrow….
I do know that and so far we have not shown a lot of wisdom in lifting bans. We know there is a double variant in CA. We know the horror of P1 in Brazil. I pray we move past that. But honestly, those who think this is a joke are already not wearing masks.
We will see and as always I pray I am wrong
