Christmas Day Forecast Update

10:57AM

Merry Christmas everybody celebrating this wonderful holiday!

Snow showers moved in a little early, forcing me to make a slight forecast adjustment. The ground has even been covered in some locations from around the Lakes Region of NH and even near Providence RI! A very light dusting here in Woburn as flakes have been drifting down since around 9AM.Β  Below is an updated forecast but very little change from the previous. A full discussion of the week ahead and updated forecast will appear later today or tonight.

Thanks to all of you forΒ  supporting Woods Hill Weather, which marks its ONE YEAR anniversary tomorrow!!!

      1. Really? I just was there around noon, got back from church in downtown and I didn’t see any accumulation or didn’t see it snowing, was this earlier this morning

    1. Not so enhanced TK, but looking at NEXRAD, here now.

Looks like precip will take a break till much later today.

      Have a great Christmas!

      1. That is, enhanced in comparison to what was falling. That was the northern extent of the snow band that covered the ground in Providence.

        1. I know u know what ur talking about tk but I was in downtown providence from 1030-noon and I didn’t see any snow on ground or in air, was this in a different part? Just wondering? Thanks tk

            1. Well that’s even weirder bc we took I95 east through E.Providence and up rt 152 to the willow tree chicken store in Attleboro, maybe it was gone by the time we got there or maybe it happened a little afterwards, im a bit upset i missed it, hope ur having a great Christmas, and thanks for the blog

              1. Merry Christmas Charlie. To answer your question on do I still think snow. Last I heard we may have some chances this week, so yes still going with plowable snow towards end of next week. If I’m wrong, well I was wrong. I suspect If this does not happen by 1/1 than I was off by maybe a week since we may start off the new year with a pattern change, snow by 1/3 or 1/5.

    1. Ok, made this comment before seeing 12z run. Much better seeing its run/track for Tues night storm. Maybe Santa’s upgrade took 12 hrs.

    1. and yet a quick period of light snow has just occurred. Got the kids excited and whitened the ice on top of the pool.

  1. Came down around 8:30 with the kids, some flakes falling, a deer ran through the yard and ate in the edge of the woods for an hour. Opened presents until almost noon, a beautiful Xmas morning!

  2. Merry Christmas, happy holidays to everybody here. I hope eveybody has a great day. I have a full house of company coming at any minute, so will check back later. I look forward to tracking weather with you here for another year, Thank you again TK
for providing us this blog. Have a great day to all.

  3. Sneak peek at the Week Ahead Update coming later…

Monday’s storm blows up way offshore.
Tuesday night’s storm cuts right over or just inside Boston. Soaker with thunder?
    Windy Wednesday!!!
    Tranquil Thursday.
    Warm advection snow Friday?
Snow showers Saturday for New Year’s Eve.
Bright New Year’s Day on Sunday?

  4. Merry Christmas everyone! πŸ™‚

Pretty good snow flurry activity here in Boston (Dorchester) around 11:00-11:30 am. It was the first flakes I have seen since late October. Had it lasted another 30 min probably would have whitened the ground nicely. My back porch was starting to get white, but fell just short.

I checked the latest NAO today and it remains very positive for the foreseeable future.
I am starting to now lean towards late January/early February, but I am not totally giving up on “mid-January” just yet…we’ll see what happens as this last week of 2011 comes to a close.

  5. Hey Scott…Merry Christmas to you! Hope you are enjoying your holiday.

I just want to say that I enjoyed reading your post over on the WBZ blog from yesterday…you explained things quite nicely. I loved it! πŸ™‚

      1. Sorry…maybe it was “Scott 77” who just recently joined over here. Regardless who, it was a very good post IMHO. πŸ™‚

  6. Both 12z runs of the GFS and EURO show bombs for the jan 3rd date around here. Quite interesting to see an agreement so far out.

    1. What do you mean by bombs, not getting snow. From everthing I have heard
It will be a Noreaster rainstorm with thunder.

      1. Deep low pressure systems.
This isn’t the storm for the middle of the week.
We will be in a new pattern next week, not sure if it’s a continuation of the current regime, or a different regime, which would be cold and snowy. There is just no way we will keep this pattern with the pv and stratospheric conditions changing.

    1. Merry Christmas Hadi- please translate as I do not know how to read that. I suspect We shall be getting into some snow real soon.
