      1. At least they say no concern for now.

If it is not at least as transmissible as Delta, then there is not
much chance it will take hold. However, if they find that
it is more transmissible, then we are in trouble.

No cause for alarm at this point, but something to watch.

        1. Thank you..I’m getting fairly good at pretending I never saw some of these things. I’ll add this one to that bucket

    1. A typical UNVACCINATED southern RED state. That figures!

These RED states are going to be the death of this nation yet.

  1. From Boston Globe.

“ Scores of Massachusetts communities have been so effective at getting students and school staff vaccinated that they may no longer have to abide by the state’s mask mandates for their middle and high schools right now — if they chose to.

But while more than 60 communities have met the Baker administration’s threshold of 80 percent or higher vaccination rates among teens, only one — Hopkinton — has sought permission to stop requiring inoculated students and staff to wear masks in its high school.

And even Hopkinton officials are having second thoughts.

The Hopkinton school committee opted to delay any action to lift the state mask mandate in its high school even though the state gave the town permission on Oct. 7.”

  2. This comment is for Joshua or anyone else who might think could be a possibility.

From what I have read, (don’t remember the source) the high temp. of the sun itself could kill the virus. And we all know that Lysol has ingredients that can kill the virus. But both of these would kill people. I wonder if some good scientists or chemists could come up with the two elements; work with them and somehow find a SAFE way to kill the virus and not hurt people or animals. This is just a small pebble in the water. Nobody but some legitimate doctor or professional should try this. But I fear it is likely impossible. They are trying hard. And of course it is up to human kind to do what they should, mask, shots, etc. But humans are social animals (and most basically stupid, me included!). Just hoping and praying, that’s all.

      1. Perhaps spray an entire indoor room or area with Lysol in advance so indoor masking will not be necessary, at least for a brief period of time throughout the day?

I think we can forget about the sun’s energy. No way we can safely harness it to kill viruses with our current technology.

        1. Lysol is extremely toxic. That could cause serious health issues.

Vaccines, masking and social distancing are our best weapons.

          1. I know that! I was talking about looking at the ingredients and somehow working with them to make it safe. Spraying Lysol in a room is not the big answer.

And to Philip, you are probably right. We couldn’t harness the energy from the sun.

Just thinking – hoping. And JpDave, you are right about vaccines, masking, social distances. But things are still opening up. I know a lot of you are sports fans here but thousands of people unmasked sitting beside each other in baseball and football games even outside. Just read there are health workers in hospitals not vaccinated. People are stupid. I am frankly frightened. Is this the end of the world? Maybe we need total shutdowns for more than 1 month or so. I am off my soapbox now.

            1. You hit on a lot of what worries me also. We began opening up just as things began getting worse.

              You truly cannot fix stupid.

              1. I don’t believe lockdowns will work. Those (unvaccinated) with the virus will still have the virus post-lockdown.

I believe Australia had been locked down for months recently and their cases went right back up again.

                Is that correct Joshua?

              2. It was LUDICROUS the way things were opened up. I think that those in power simply said enough is enough. Whoever gets it , gets it. Too damn bad. Life must go on.

                In other words F*** this!

            2. I think I was the first to mention end of the world in this blog, Unless some super variant emerges I now
don’t see it that way, however, life will never be what it was.

              1. It’s our 40 days and 40 nights multiplied by …well, I don’t know how man. But we need to smarten up and do it quickly. That applies to all corners, although some more than others.

  3. School positives to date. Students are falling by a handful but still way above last year. Staff is sadly holding at higher numbers.

Apologies for the Page 1 across the sheet. I’m too lazy to restart computer and redo 🙁

      1. I thought about it. My daughter and son in law tried getting rid of ATT. It was a nightmare with both Carriers they tried. Verizon mixed up our fios package (it’s in SIL name as they pay the bill) and their phones. It was particularly troublesome because they kept changing my SILs business phone access and, as you can expect, was not a good thing. I love fios and have never had trouble with it, and I used it for business for 15 years. So I was shocked.

        1. We went with T-Mobile. We’ll see what happens
when We get the SIM cards and they port our numbers
over. So far it has been a smooth process.

  4. U.S. situation has improved during the last 6 weeks:

    – Cases are down 40% and are now 87k new daily cases
    – Hospitalizations are down 38% and are now 63k
    – Deaths are down 20% and are now 1,580 per day

Problem is that there’s still a tremendous amount of virus circulating. If the US follows the UK trajectory – and I have no reason to believe it won’t – we will see some more gradual decline in the coming weeks, followed by a resurgence by early November. Not a massive surge, but a moderate resurgence. We’re also seeing signs of such a beginning resurgence in Western Europe. Eastern Europe is clearly the virus epicenter at the moment. Romania is closing in on 400 deaths a day (total population is 19 million).
