The Week Ahead

3:45PM

The September heat is gone, though the overall pattern is still mild to warm. However, compared to last week, this coming week will feel much more pleasant. It starts wonderfully with high pressure centered north of the region Monday, delivering pleasant air on a northeast wind that has not spent much time passing over water, but rather eastern Canada, so it will be on the dry side. This high retreats a little bit Tuesday and Wednesday as a smaller low pressure area to the south tries to push to the north. Expect increasing cloudiness Monday night and Tuesday, decreasing by later Wednesday. The question is, does any rain from the low make it into the area. For now, the thinking is that there is a risk of some in southern sections, but probably not very much. A warm-up is slatedΒ  for the end of the week and a series of cold fronts will then try to push in from the west, bringing some risk of showers, especially Thursday. Next weekend looks dry and pleasant at this time as high pressure should be moving into the region. One caution is that we may need to watch the last of the fronts moving offshore in case it slows down.

    1. I would have been first but in case you didn’t notice, I can’t limit myself to toe words …….several dozen is even tough πŸ™‚

    1. I actually accomplish more while watching / listening to sports then any other time.

I did the blog, played a game that was 25 rounds long with my son, and put away piles of stuff that needed to be moved, all since 1PM. Oh and made a shopping list. Grocery shopping as soon as the Pats finish losing this game. πŸ˜‰

  1. Was this just down again. Pats had this game in first half . They will need to study the film on this one. To bad.

    1. It wasn’t down. Comments are set to shut down on a blog post that reaches 48 hours in age. It was put in place to limit spam bots from flooding the blog before I got the updated version of WordPress. πŸ™‚

  2. I did not like the way the Pats looked in pre-season and I do not like them here. It is not a question of personnel. They certainly have the players. And it is not a question of whether they won or lost today. They just do not look like a team yet. They need that team sense/culture/camaraderie/gusto/drive and whatever else. The Pats should have a good winning season, but the team needs to come together.

    1. PATHETIC PERFORMANCE!! NO O-LINE AT ALL. NO PROTECTION.
Brady was off. Had some misses, others were due to receiver not in right spot etc. etc.

        1. Sure, but the opening act sucked.

I can’t believe HOW BAD IT WAS!!!

I mean it was really bad, not just a little bit, it was horrendous. What about this great new defense?
It STUNK. They couldn’t stop my Grand Mother!!!

Revis didn’t look so hot to me. Run Defense? What is that. We don’t have any!!

    2. They have not lost first game since 2003. Remember where we were feb 1 2004…..at least I think it was 2/1 but you get the point

  3. wow patriots had to deal with very high heat index’s though no excuse, the defense did ok, but the offense needs work, O line expecially, if the pats had trouble with the miami defense we are going to have a very tough year.

have anyone seen the last CMC weather model for hour 144. Look at how juice up that storm becomes

  4. Oh and I forgot to mention that the pundits will start asking about the Pats’ back-up QB this week. Everyone needs ratings . LOL.

    1. You are soooooo right. My SIL said a few weeks ago the only downside to a good QB backup is pundits will start calling for him. Everyone likes to “discuss”Brady while totally ignoring the stats. Jealousy πŸ™‚

  5. What a perfect evening. I am looking forward to nights where I can wear sweats and bundle up on the porch but in the meantime this is perfect. 67 but feels cooler with a lower DP

    1. 69.3 here and I just put on a sweatshirt. Can you believe it??

BRRR Now I’m freezing. Can’t we ease into this cooler weather?
Seriously, After the last week, I AM NOT complaining. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€
      This is awesome!!!!

      1. I love it !!!!!! I so want to put on a new pair of sweatpants I got. I may have to sit outside once the sun goes down just so I can.

  6. After reviewing the winter forecasts from The Old Farmer’s Almanac, Harris’ Farmer’s Almanac, and The Farmers Almanac (not to be confused with The Old Farmer’s Almanac), I will have to say that I think the only one that makes any real sense to me is Harris’ .. Never thought I’d say that. πŸ˜›

      1. The general idea for the Northeast is a mild to near average temperature and a below normal precip. for the winter.

        1. Winter will be colder and slightly wetter than normal, with above-normal snowfall. The coldest periods will be in late December and early and mid-January. The snowiest periods will be in mid- and late December, mid-January, and early to mid-February.

April and May will be warmer and generally drier than normal.

Summer will be hotter and drier than normal, despite a tropical storm threat in early to mid-August. The hottest periods will occur in early June, mid- to late July, and early to mid-August.

September and October will be warmer than normal, with near-normal rainfall.

    1. And does Harris (which btw is the last name of the miracle dr who did macs back surgery) say milder through January and then spotty snow storms ?

      1. Mitchel Harris?

He was going to do my wife’s back surgery and she said go pound sand, you ain’t touching me. Not because he wasn’t good, but
        because there were no guarantees.

  7. I only read Harris’ general synopsis. I didn’t delve into the details month by month. I can check that.

Yes I think TOFA is going too cold and too wet for the Northeast overall for Winter. Not sure about Spring/Summer/Fall. I have hunches about how 2015 turns out but let’s leave it at that for now. πŸ™‚

Going to focus on Winter to start out.

    1. Well you can be safe by taking my predictions and saying the opposite.

Thank you TK for your sense of what is coming

      1. You never know. You could be spot on. πŸ˜€

Maybe this Harris guy is the same. Maybe he does it all!

    1. I only see the yellow when I post and then only for a second. Will see if it is different when I’m using a computer later

  8. Ohhhhh – I see the color now that I am on a computer. The sun is shining on Woods Hill this morning πŸ™‚

And I totally agree that this is amazing weather.

I was thinking about the women who were struck by lightening at Cranes beach. I know that we here tend to see the bad weather coming. But I suspect most of us are watching the sky out of habit because we love weather. Many commenters on the blogs said the weather came in too quickly. I find that hard to believe even without TK being there to verify. We all watched the systems roll across the state for quite some time.

I wonder if sometimes people are too focused on having fun to look up until it is too late. Golf courses have horns they blow. I would think it is because too many golfers have been injured by lightening. But they too are in the open when one would think they would see the “weather” approaching. Perhaps, beaches should have horns also??

    1. If your not a weather enthusiast, I really dont think people do notice in advance.

Many times, I feel like I have to tell family and friends to get inside when they hear thunder.

I have to tell them the idea that if you can hear thunder, its possible you can be struck, before or after the storm has come/passed.

Perhaps with improving technology, a TV area can be put in at beaches with a radar on, particularly on stormy days. Heck, I go to most gas stations and get entertained with sportscenter every time I fuel up.

      1. I agree, Tom. I don’t know what the horns at golf courses cost. However, most beaches have life guards and they could have an air horn to blast.

  9. Brisk morning! Our little pup got her paws all wet from the dew during all the potty trips last night, lol

    1. Did you get the Lab? What color?

Have you a name for it yet?

I hope it’s a cool name, perhaps weather related???? πŸ˜€ OR Not.

  10. Oh that color surrounding the blog website. YUCK!!
    OMG that’s horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I sitting at my desk sipping coffee and now I’m going to PUKE!!!

How about a nice Crisp New England blue Sky color. Something weather related.
Or perhaps some Ominous Dark grey cloud color?????? πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

              1. Ah ….. middle of the road I guess.

A nice new addition, but like your suggestion of maybe weather related colors for the various changes in our 4 seasons.

          1. It gets me in deep trouble many times. πŸ˜€

What do you love about this color?
            Perhaps it’s my monitor.

On mine, it’s kind of a Goulden’s Mustard Yellow Yuck. Just short of Baby Shit Green.

            1. OS – I had to take several deep breaths to be able to settle down to type. I am laughing hysterically. My mom always said what she thought and it got her into trouble a lot. Even as a youngster I couldn’t figure out how covering up or fibbing about what you think was more acceptable than being honest. Don’t tell anyone, but I may have inherited her tendency to say what I think πŸ™‚

That being said……..I was trying to think of a name for the color. I know everyone’s monitor will show a bit of a different shade but billious green came to mind πŸ˜‰

And thanks TK – see how something as simple as a color change can amuse the masses πŸ˜‰

              1. πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜†

                bilΒ·ious (blys)
                adj.
                1. Of, relating to, or containing bile; biliary.
                2.
                a. Characterized by an excess secretion of bile.
                b. Relating to, characterized by, or experiencing gastric distress caused by a disorder of the liver or gallbladder.
                c. Appearing as if affected by such a disorder; sickly.
                3. Resembling bile, especially in color: a bilious green.
                4. Having a peevish disposition; ill-humored.

                I guess we pretty much agree, just assigned a different description. πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜† πŸ˜†

Sorry I had to look it up, I didn’t make the connection to BILE!!!!!!

  11. Non-weather question. My old desktop computer is starting to go bye-bye.

What would be a relatively good, not-that-expensive ($200 -$300.00) type computer?

I used to be somewhat savvy about computers (what kinds there were) but since I lost my job yrs. ago we are not that wealthy. I don’t know what’s in – what about computer tablets?? And where would be a good place to look?

And no, the Gulden mustard or pea soup border on this blog didn’t break my computer!! πŸ™‚

    1. Do you need a computer or would something like an iPad work? I can’t help with computers but love my iPad. I happen to be a fan of Apple for reliability and service. But I am also a fan of Samsung and believe they have a great product. My computer is a Samsung. I also know there are a lot of netbooks on the market. Maybe someone here knows about them.

      1. Thanks, Vicki. I will have to do some research. We called a few places to get a new computer for my desktop but they are too expensive. I am used to sitting at my desk – don’t know if I would be comfortable w/a pad. My husband has an older laptop – I don’t care for laptops. We will see.

        1. If you are using it a lot and for work, I would say a laptop which is what I use – but at my desk. But I also have a wireless keyboard and mouse and a large screen. I do not like the keyboard and mouse on laptops. Basically, it is a desktop replacement as I do not use as a typical laptop.

  12. For those that are interested. College of the Holy Cross is hosting the New england colligiate marching band Festival… A bunch of college marching bands are playing. It is october 5 .. Doors open at 11am, show starts at noon. Each band can take up to 20 minutes each … and it is free to go to.

  13. TK, fyi…I posted something this morning between 7-9am that doesn’t show up. I assume it got flagged. No biggie but wanted to mention it.

      1. Fair enough. It still may happen for another several days while we work out some bugs with the new version. So let me know. πŸ™‚

    1. That is a very nice way of describing it. I was going with baby poop but thought that was a bit strong so remembered my MIL used the term bilious ….. πŸ˜‰ And I will say that after a bit, I don’t even notice it. It was fun on a slow weather day !

  14. Down to 55,000 spam messages to delete from the 82,000 I started with this weekend. After those are gone, NO MORE will be stacking up! YES!

  15. In case nobody has heard one of the two women struck by lightning has died. Sad indeed . We can all say well there was warning but people on the beach have no tv and from what I heard when the lightning started / storm everybody headed out and by the time people hit the parking lot it was intense.

    1. It is a horrible tragedy. John, did you see my comment about either an air horn for the lifeguards or even the type of horn they have a golf courses.

      1. I went to the Beach web site. They are strict. No boogie boarding, no metal detecting, etc. Some things are at the discretion of the lifeguard. It seems to me that protecting folks in the water extends to warning of storms.

    1. I don’t get it. None of my posts show up after posting. πŸ™

Something is wrong here with WordPress TK.

      1. You’re all set. Still a minor issue with some messages going to the spam folder. We’ll get it taken care of soon. πŸ™‚

  16. Hi TK – I like the new mustard yellow color on the sidelines of the blog. I would like to suggest a different color for each season. πŸ™‚

    Fall – mustard yellow
    Winter – blue (any shade)
    Spring – pink (light shade)
    Summer – green (any shade)

Thanks TK! Just don’t make “too” many changes to the blog. Overall I like it just the way it is and always has been. πŸ˜€

        1. What if each season had a variation of colors – early spring a lighter green, then as the season ages, it get darker or different altogether?

  17. Just dowloaded and installed the Necn mobile weather app for android. Pretty cool. Would get channel 4 but they won’t get off their ass and do it for android. Kuddos to Necn.

  18. Actually I have unlimited colors to choose from. But I’m going to be trying several different blog styles over the next 2 weeks, and seeing how they work out. So look for big changes to the set-up.

    1. Ohhhhhh fun. And yes you do have unlimited colors which leads one to question……sorry, am I seriously kidding and by now you’d think I would just let it go. I also suspect you have noticed I have little to no self control

TK in all seriousness I love what you do here and I love the opportunity to be here.

        1. You, my friend, are the one who deserves all the thanks….and I notice BZ has a funky BG color too. I think they copied you

    1. Not yellow. Bilious green :). I didn’t see it until today either. And don’t tell TK but it actually grew on me. Well not literally ….I don’t think….but you know what I mean
