  1. I welcome the relatively quiet pattern. So much to catch up on in the house and outside… 😉

BTW looking more seriously ahead at the Winter. It’s amusing to me that some outlets spend too much time and energy on the areas that are virtual locks. The real forecasting is going to be along the uncertain borders between the above and belows.

  2. well since the weather is being boring right now, lets talk football. Lets talk about the crazy start of the nfl season
    The so called contenders (favorites)
    Steelers 1-1
    Ravens 0-2
Colts 0-2 ( lol) I honestly liked the colts as my second favorite team until they pulled the crap they did last year
Bronco’s are 2-0 but not the same bronco’s
and well the patriots and brady are 2-0 and are in f-u mode ( ithey continue what they are doing the past two games. Brady would surpass His 50 touchdown 07 season
Patriots defense has the most sacks in the nfl at 11
patriots have 3 fumble recoveries and forced 7 . 3rd in the league
patriots have 4 interceptions (middle of the pack)

The jets are 2-0 but they been going against teams that seem to be bad this year. Lets see how they do in the next few games and if they have the same record as the pats, that will be a game to watch. I have to say, what I see of their coach is a person with respect and seems to block out the nyc noise.

    1. OH also i think the jets and denver will be the two challenges to the patriots as well as the Gaints. Does anyone else relize that the last time the patriots played nfc east teams was in 2010 and 2007 and the pats are in the mood. just saying

      1. I still haven’t gotten over Brady’s endorsement of trump.
(lower case on purpose. He is not worthy of upper case)

        1. For what it is worth, I do not think he endorsed him. I think he spoke out for someone who has been a friend for a long time and who supported him completely during the deflategate mess…still does. I would be far more disappointed in Brady, were he asked (as he was) about Trump (a man who stood by him when the majority in the country were not) and Brady turned his back.

I also figure if it were not Brady at this point in time, it would not even be addressed by the media. It is being used as another attempt to put Brady down.

          1. I still have my concerns. Sorry.
            Hope you are correct.

Brady has had every opportunity to clarify his
statements, even after trump said that Brady
            has endorsed him. Go figure.

          2. Agree with everything you said.

And IMO Brady’s political opinions are irrelevant. Atop that he did not actually endorse anyone. 🙂

        2. Look, he can support any candidate he wants. He has a crapload of money, so it wouldn’t be surprising for him to support a republican. My problem is that trump
is running in the republican party but he is something else.
He is a racist, homophobic, chauvinistic, xenophobic Neanderthal that has ZERO business running for office.
He is a poor excuse for a human being.

              1. A racist, homophobic, chauvinistic, xenophobic Neanderthal in New York City? Please share the names of the many.

        3. again with brady supporting trump. they been friends for a long time, trump backed brady in the deflategate saga. Brady is supporting a friend. Wouldn’t you support a friend as well. You might not agree but he is still your friend.

  3. Rooting for the Jets and Washington to win so both Giants and Eagles are 0-3 in the division. Going to need some help with Romo and Bryant missing a considerable amount of time. If were 3-2 going into the bye week after the Patriots game I will be very happy.

  4. Thank you, TK.

And, I concur with your comment. This winter’s going to be difficult to forecast in this region, in particular. I think we’ll be in a battle zone of sorts between cold air to our north and warmer air to our south. Ice could be a major concern in the interior, especially just east of the Appalachians.

    1. My fear is that we could “possibly” be in the snow jackpot zone once again.
Much has to align itself for this to happen and it would have to buck the
Strong El Nino Consensus. We shall see.

  5. Joshua Meteorologist Gil Simmons here in CT said there would be a lot icing events in New England this winter. I agree with that statement Gil made. I think were going to see a lot of kitchen sink storms this winter but snowfall will be below normal ending the streak of three straight winters above normal snowfall.

  6. Though I think conditions will favor icing at times but we need one thing that will likely be lacking…

    1. Hi Tk hope you and the family are hanging in there. Could you explain more please . Is this El Niño expected to still be strong.

  7. I think it’s sad if you like or dislike someone through political lenses, it says a lot of yourself. No disrespect but I feel bad for those people, if I did this I wouldn’t be able to do anything or basically live my life, I would stop shopping at certain grocery stores. I’m not voting for trump, but if Brady endorsed him, good for him. If he endorse Bernie same ole same ole that doesn’t change how I think of him. So sad 🙁

    1. Charlie,

You said: it says a lot of yourself.

      Really, how so.

I didn’t feel the same way watching the game. So sue me. Lock me up.
Deport me. Yes, do that. Send me back to England!

      Huh?????

          1. Ok we can talk and see which one works. Depending on who
Is elected we may need to have a plan. :). I’m
Suspecting we should see areas TK is gamiar with so he can expand forecasts 😀

    2. Charlie I asked you the other day why you say you mean no disrespect and then say something that is disrespectful.

  8. It’s sad when we have politicians feel the need to spew hate towards certain groups of people. And BTW I refuse to shop at Walmart because where they spend their money.

          1. They do. Last I checked they had a deliberate CEO:employee ratio. That’s what he who shall not be named supports 🙂

  9. Someone questioned the relevance of a sports star’s political allegiance, and I tend to agree. I mostly don’t care who an athlete supports politically. This said, in Brady’s case I side with JP Dave. Extreme views on either side of the political spectrum – from fascism to socialism – should never be taken lightly. I call a spade a spade. Trump is a fascist. Sanders is a socialist. They’re both extreme in my opinion. Both undermine the fabric of this country by resorting to nativist, sexist, rhetoric (Trump) and talk of class warfare (Sanders). People in the spotlight should be mindful of this. In addition, Brady is married to a Brazilian. If she was not a super model and had overstayed her visa, met Tom, had a child, etc … Trump would refer to her with the same kind of derogatory (ie, fascist) language he so frequently uses to divide this country into ethnic, religious, and gendered categories. As we know there are plenty of legal and illegal immigrants from Brazil in the Boston/Providence area. I know many from both `camps.’ Regardless of which camp they’re in – documented or not – they’re hard-working, decent human beings. Gisele is one genetic trait – model-like beauty – removed being one of them. If only for empathy-sake, I would want Tom to refrain from even a hint of being in some way associated with Trump.

    1. Oops I just slid into the no respect column. I support sanders and do not think he is extreme. Oddly if you actually listen to trump and if he moves past one liners, he has some good ideas also. The part that is hard for me to understand is when folks do not try to take ideas from both sides. But that is their right. BTW I would elect trump before a number of others on the gop list

But then were we not going to discuss politics. 🙂

      1. For the record, I like Sanders as well.

I don’t think that he is electable. Perhaps I’ll be proven wrong.
At the same time I don’t think that Hillary is electable either.

Biden will be the Democratic candidate and we’ll have to see
who his Republican opponent will be.

  10. Matt Souza, you are right that 10cm of snow (in the Nunavut province of Canada) is not much snow at all. Even the gale force winds are not a big deal. My point was that this is how they usher in autumn up there.

  11. I have to say this – it has bothered me for quite some time. I have been on this blog, what 2, 3 or so years? There have been 1, 2 or perhaps 3 meetups – I couldn’t make for some reason or other. I really wish that someday I could actually Meet some of the people here – it has been almost like family to me. However, w/the different opinions and personalities of people here (I like and respect everyone on this blog) I guess it won’t ever be possible. Sports – I’ll talk a little about that. I like the Patriots. I love tennis. Politics? I prefer to be Switzerland. I’ll stay neutral. I don’t know who I will vote for – it’s still a ways off. But what I like to talk about most of all here – is the weather! 🙂

Sun came out today – nice – thought it was supposed to be cloudy.

    1. I would like to do the same. Some have met up but, like you, I haven’t been able to make it. But maybe the different opinions are what make the world go round. I’d be willing to bet we’d be too busy just getting to know one another face to face to get into any of this.

  12. I do not think you can avoid wandering discussions. It is slow weatherwise and there have been next to no posts the past few days. It is human nature so hard to stop it. It is the lack of respect for another’s opinion where folks derail and we (emphasizing the we as in me also) all can do it. It is not recognizing when you do it that seems to be the disconnect.

I’d find it odd to have a blog where folks look on all participants as a kind of family and not be able to mention off-weather type topics.

    Just my opinion.

      1. Yup, I am guilty. Apologize? Only if TK asks me to, otherwise, I was only stating my opinion. So shoot me. Oh, sorry, that’s
        another subject.

      2. I think we should leave that up to the poster (to apologize or not. Personally I don’t think he has to but that’s just me. There have been many times in the past where people have said things way beyond what JPDave has posted and in some instances there have been apologies while in others there haven’t been.

    1. Ok – at this point, I’m not too crazy about any of the candidates.

And – I am sure there are plenty of other subjects not/or related to weather we can talk about. Like – those weird tornadoes on the sun last week. What was that about?? Anyway, the weather is never boring to me. And if people want to talk about politics, sports, ok. I was just on my soapbox. Off the soapbox, now! I still read the blog, weather-talk or not – all interesting.

    2. I agree with this.
I really wish people would be able to stop short before hurling insults.

There is such a thing as being able to disagree and even having a spirited debate about something without being insulting.

And as I’ve said before, I don’t mind straying from weather here, as long as it doesn’t become dominant.

But since we’re on the topic… I’m adding 1 person to my team here at WHW, not a forecaster, but a moderator. He will begin about October 1, preceded by a rules reminder, and he will also be a very proactive moderator, but very fair.

      1. TK – sorry I had to stop my comment short (which in my case is not always a bad thing) I had been waiting for a call from Mac’s dr.

I needed to finish my comment with the fact that this is your blog, you have the final say and I will abide by anything you decide.

(aside…it may not stop me from asking why or how or what but always know that is because I like to know and not because I am questioning something) 🙂

  13. Rainshine you should come next time. I think the slow weather and the facts politics are hot is causing the discussion.

  14. I won’t tell anybody to apologize. That is always up to the person.

You tell your kids to apologize. Adults should know whether they need to or not. My moderator will be zapping messages that cross the posted lines starting on October 1.

  15. OK all.

Since this is a weather blog, I was guilty of stirring up the pot regarding politics today.
    My bad for that.

Therefore, I do apologize for making the political post/rant, but not for the content. Further, I will make a concentrated effort to keep quiet on politics and keep it out of the blog.

I do wish it weren’t so slooooow weatherwize. What a boring stretch. Yawn, yawn, yawn.

    1. See that is where I do not agree with you and just my opinion. As I said, we look at each other as a sort of virtual family. These are things you discuss with family. I’m always open to hear what others thing whether I agree or no. I don’t agree with you on this and I hope that my response to you as such was not offensive. With all of this discussion, I will have to reread it. But if we all agreed with each other, the world would be as dull as the weather.

(Note to TK: dull weather does not equate to not nice weather in my mind 😉 )

      1. Yeah but if the weather gets TOO active then the inevitable debate on whether or not it’s related to climate change will flare. 😛

        Can’t win! 😉

      2. You have NEVER offended (at least nothing offensive to me) Although it is indeed beautiful weather, to me it is boring. I like action. Storms of any kind, impending storms, something to monitor. With this kind ofweather there is ZILCH to anticipate.
        And I can’t stand that.

        1. Thank you. I get passionate. I suspect you noticed. And can lose myself. I like where I can edit a comment after I step away from it.

  16. Anyone interested in meeting up, please list the day or days of the week that would work best for you. Then we can start to search for a day.

  17. I still do not understand how it went from me talking about the patriots. to dave saying how he wishes brady should not side with trump = conflict in the blog. it was all good in my mind it looked like a good convo starting.

I still think it should not matter who brady sides for honestly as I have friends that are republicans. I have people that are democrats. Yes we have debates but we are respectful to one and other. We have fun and everything. Trump is a friend of brady and trump also backed brady up in the deflategate saga. they are friends. wouldn’t you help a fellow out if he or she was your friend.

    1. Reread Daves comment. He never insulted anyone but trump and expressed his opinion as to why he doesn’t like him. His opinion. No harm no foul.

In my opinion, this is a great learning experience for me and I hope for others.

  18. the climate is changing and humans are making precesses that should take over 100 years done within 50 we are on tap for one of the largest mass instinction in earths history , don’t be blind 😀 there i started a climate change and distinction debates

    1. Reread Daves comment. He never insulted anyone but trump and expressed his opinion as to why he doesn’t like him. His opinion. No harm no foul.

In my opinion, this is a great learning experience for me and I hope for others.

      1. No idea why that posted twice. Maybe the blog gods agree with me 🙂

i think your comment is a good learning experience also. Know why 🙂

    2. Matt,
Please don’t get me going on climate change and/or what we are doing to our planet. I fear I will get kicked off of the blog. 😀

  19. Damn it all…you got guys got me going again…I told you before I’m not voting for Nixon again and that’s my final word….

  20. Haha!! 1st off I never run sue, 2nd again I don’t mean to disrespect no one on the blog, I just believe if you live your life through political lenses that’s your problem, and not mine, good luck with that. I do believe Massachusetts is politically corrupted, and it has slowly undermined what this state could have been. It’s just my opinion, we have people that are more worried about someone’s flowers not getting enough sun because of new housing development. Again it’s just my opinion.

tk what r the chances for rain in the next 7 days. Thank you!! 🙂

  21. Well the GFS had one decent run today (12z). The rest have been crap. Wish I knew why that was suddenly a bigger problem with that model again.

  22. May I make a mobile post from

  27. After decades of lots of flying and traveling I have developed a fear of flying. I do fly, but try to avoid it as much as possible (which often means taking the train on my business trips to NYC, DC, and Philadelphia – I know it’s irrational). In any case, I fly to see my daughter tomorrow in St. Paul. Wouldn’t you know that tomorrow there will be the threat of t-storms there all day and night. I’m definitely uneasy about it.

    1. Good luck. Many have that fear.
      You are not alone.
My wife and son are afraid
To death. They”ll do it like you,
      But they hate it.

      Myself, I don”t give a rat”s ass.

    2. Joshua, I’m not sure where this will end up in the broken but fun blog. Mac started flying at age 2 in 1951..to sweden that time. Like you, he spent his life flying to and from. But recently the thought also made him uncomfortable. I don’t find one thing irrational about doing that.

    1. I think something I posted earlier duplicated. But don’t stop it. I’m still laughing. I can’t decide which one is funnier.

  28. Bruins now 2-0 in the exhibition run.

Defeated NJ 2-0 on Sunday, and Washington 2-1 in OT tonight, with a goal 12 seconds into OT.

  29. Previous days in my neighborhood because of the NNE wind off of the ocean have had a 5F diurnal temp change at most, from a low of 60F to a high of 65F.

Not this morning, calm and clear, probably down to 45F.
