Sunday Forecast

8:18AM

DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 22-26)…
One change to the forecast and it’s in the short-term, and that is to bring the low pressure wave along today’s passing cold front close enough by early tonight to bring some steady rain to much of the region for several hours, and cannot even rule out an end as a mix with snow as it pulls eastward in the pre-dawn hours as the colder air arrives. Still confident that high pressure will be dominant from Monday through Thanksgiving on Thursday with a November chill finally giving way to a milder very end of the period. Pre-Thanksgiving travel weather will be excellent in the Northeast.
TODAY: Overcast. Isolated rain showers this morning. Steadier rain developing from south to north late day. Highs in the 40s. Wind light SE becoming variable then W up to 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: Overcast with rain likely, ending west to east late possibly as a mix of rain/snow. Clearing west to east toward dawn. Lows in the 30s, coldest interior MA and NH. Wind NW to N 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY: Sunny. Highs in the 40s. Wind N 10-20 MPH.
TUESDAY: Sunny. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 40s.
WEDNESDAY: Sunny. Lows 15-25. Highs in the 40s.
THURSDAY- THANKSGIVING: Sunny. Lows in the 20s. Highs 45-55.

DAYS 6-10 (NOVEMBER 27-DECEMBER 1)…
Fair and mild weather November 27-29. Mild with a chance of rain November 30. Fair and cooler December 1.

DAYS 11-15 (DECEMBER 2-6)…
Quiet and mild early through mid period. Watch for storminess late in the period.

    1. Heading there now!
      🙂
Was working outside all day yesterday on final lawn/yard cleanup and laying out all electric cords for Christmas lights, in anticipation I may have to shift to inside cleaning operations today, and then last night was a long and late night out celebrating our dear friend Emily’s birthday.

  1. Thanks, TK.

Typical November day today. ‘Though I don’t want to see anyone’s outdoor plans ruined – I am hoping that this grey and cool day will bring a little beneficial rain to the area.

  2. The weather channel just updated there temperature outlook from December to Feb, and it’s above average to much above average temps. Is there anyway we can have a El Niño year every year? Lol 🙂 stay dry!!

    1. There are some El Nino years that end up colder. Though this won’t likely be one of the very cold ones, weaker El Nino years have been known to contain some very cold and quite snowy Winters. So El Nino is not automatically a lock for mild start to finish. You have to take many other things into account.

  3. Interesting video on storm chasing:

Regarding winter outlooks, I take a wait and see approach. Yes, this winter will likely wind up above average temperature-wise, but it is not going to be a repeat of 2011-2012. There will be plenty of winter to go around across our country. I believe the oscillations in temperature, as well as what I think will be numerous rain-to-snow as well as snow-to-ice-to-rain events will actually make some parts of this winter feel quite wintry.

    1. If you wait and see too long, it becomes an observation rather than a forecast. 🙂 My point in putting out the outlook in mid November is to try to predict as best I can how I think the Winter will go with what I have available to me and after application of what I have learned over the years…

Sometimes the results good, other times not so good. You just hope that you’ll do respectably considering that you are actually trying to predict the future behavior of great volumes of fluid embedded in fluid over a large area, and then to pinpoint its direct impact locally and regionally…

      1. True. I’m not opposed to winter outlooks.

What I meant by wait and see is now that the winter outlooks are out, we wait and see rather than rely on them for guidance moving forward.

Friends and relatives who think I obsess about weather (but in reality know little about it) will ask me, so what do you think this winter will bring. I tell them that the winter outlook suggests a relatively mild winter in the northeast, however, because winter hasn’t arrived yet and is a 3-month season we’ll have to wait and see what she brings. Hopefully, I’ve clarified my position. It’s helpful to know that I’m an economist who is aware of how poorly economists predict (myself included). Hence, my skepticism about long-range predictions of any kind.

        1. Absolutely and you are right to carry the skepticism. We’re far from being anywhere near excellent at it. 🙂

      1. Surface temps are low to mid 40s. Already down enough
such that mixing could start to occur when/if colder air
aloft makes it before precip cuts off.

  4. Darned town changed our street light to led. We always used it to see if it was snowing and now we can’t. Im about to climb up the pole and replace it

      1. Looking down the coast, It looks to me that most of the precip
will be out of here before we can have a change over.

However, the latest HRRR still has .5 to 2 inches across the area.

Right now, I don’t think so.

  5. Any snow in the area is about 5 hours away. Far too warm aloft and at the surface right now. It will be cold enough around midnight into the wee hours if there is enough moisture left. No accumulation other than perhaps a slushy coating briefly on a few cars, only to melt immediately after it stops.

  6. BTW, for radio listeners who want to get into the Christmas spirit a bit early, Magic 106.7 switched to the all Christmas music format this past Friday at 5PM and will continue through Christmas Day. They also wind it down in the days after Christmas, still playing the occasional holiday tune from December 26 through January 1. I have no problem with them having switched already, though I won’t really tune in until after Thanksgiving. 🙂

    1. WSRS 96.1 in Worcester has been all Christmas since the first week of November! A little too much and early, if you ask me.

      1. I suppose that is a bit early. However at least it comes with the freedom of not listening until one is ready. 🙂

I love my late Autumn feel and I have my own soundtracks that I play these weeks. Once we hit Thanksgiving night, my switch flips and I’m the Christmas nut (specials, movies, music). 😀

    2. Been listening to our pandora christmas.

Decorated mantle in family room. Kids and I turn on fire (It is gas), turn off lights except mantle lights and listen to christmas music just prior to their bedtime. A tradition we started with our kids over 30 years ago.

    1. Joshua I agree although others are fun for kids. If you have pandora the away in a manger station is all traditional and my favorite.

    2. I absolutely love the traditional songs and carols, as well as the fun kids style stuff. I still listen to every old album that I did as a kid, without any shame. And I have some stuff that is very hard to find and many won’t admit to having loved. 😀

      1. Please list those. I’d love to hear what they are

I still start dancing when k hear Rockin Around the Christmas Tree. My memory tells me that when radio stations started to toss in christmas music that it was the first one I would hear. To me, it starts the season.

          1. I’ll put up a more comprehensive list sometime either here or on Facebook. Some of the rare stuff I own is by a group called The Caroleers that started in a small church in New England and ended up making some of the most incredibly well-done Christmas albums. They were a huge part of my childhood. We also have an album called “Christmas Is For Children” which was performed by the Cricketones. There are some gems on this album including a song called “18 Cents” in which a child has to find a way to buy Christmas gifts for Mom, Dad, Rover, Sister, and Teacher, and manages to pull it off. This album is full of original songs and they may be a little campy at times but they are so good. It also has some traditional favorites.

I also own what I think may be the greatest Christmas album of all time, and that is the original Andy Williams Christmas Album. This is such a superior recording, not only for sound quality but performance that it gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it.

            1. Wow. Awesome. And the original Andy Williams gives me goose bumps too. I have always thought he was gifted. But many in that time period were.

              1. Andy Williams looks like he could have been my father’s brother. They looked a lot alike in my opinion. 🙂

  7. 41.2 degrees, light rain .29 so far, looks like the rain ends between 11pm-1am.

Thanksgiving begins the warm up with both Thursday and Friday nearing 60 degrees, especially Friday. 🙂 goodnight
