  1. Philip, thanks for letting us know about the Frontline piece on the coronavirus. It was quite informative.

    1. Your welcome Joshua. It really exposes the total incompetence of this current administration.

The previous one had begun preparations in place for any future pandemics and this one blew it all up.

I suppose to be “fair” though, the entire world certainly can share in the blame. There were opportunities if authorities had taken advice more seriously and not dragged their feet.

      1. I watched just a bit just now. The timeline is chilling. But we knew. We all knew if we paid even a bit of attention. I have to go out for a pickup but am at the point it reaches the United States. I’d say the world blew it initially.

Thank you Philip. I’m trying to move away from media stress so was a bit worried about watching this. But this is PBS and media reporting in general at its finest. Just facts….no spin.

  2. One place that’s much worse off than Arizona, Texas, or Florida at this point in time is Sweden. Sweden reported nearly 1,300 new cases today and 102 deaths. As new cases and deaths decline precipitously throughout Europe, Sweden’s new cases grow steadily and death rate increases. Failed policy. In my view, this should cost the state epidemiologist his job. Keep in mind Sweden has around 10 million people. It’s also not a very densely populated country. And, its testing rate is half the U.S. average!

  3. As you know I have mixed feelings on Sweden. They did leave things open. But other than in Stockholm and another hot spot or two, the majority did exactly what was recommended. So the country left it to the citizens to do what was right. And now the citizens are blaming the government…..because folks didn’t do what they should have.

I can tell you many in my area firmly believe that is what baker should have done. And we have states that have pretty much done the same. So does the fault lie with the individual or the country/state.

For those who hate regulation, I’ve always said that we force regulation because we can’t regulate ourselves. Sweden…in some areas….is a perfect example of that.

And to go one step further, the right decrys socialism because it believes socialism takes control of peoples life. And yet the Swedish govt left the decision to the people. Laughing yet? I am.

      1. Thanks Joshua. They were surely not directed at you. Just observations from watching. Interesting study in human behavior

  4. Mike Pence heads the Coronavirus Task Force, which still exists, by the way, albeit behind closed doors. Today he declared there was a “great update” on progress on Covid-19. He then said in his tweet that the nation was stabilizing at 20k new cases in the past 2 weeks and that hospitalizations were down.

Problem is, Mike, the 20k figure is no longer valid. The 7-day moving average is 25k (today’s tally as well). And, in at least 9 states (all of them relatively large) hospitalizations are up. Nationwide he may be right that hospitalizations are down. Indeed, the Northeast and Midwest have seen declining numbers, thankfully. Yet, he needs to get real regarding the problem. The virus is NOT under control. Until we do get the virus under control his desire (and mine, too) to reopen the economy fully is a pipe dream.

  5. I hadn’t thought of the fact that in the states that are seeing a surge in cases, people are spending a lot more time INDOORS with air-conditioning on. So, while the virus may get killed by UV-light and heat outdoors it loves it inside, and is very adept at hopping from person to person in clubs, gyms, salons, malls, rallies.
