DAYS 1-5 (JUNE 17-21)

A block in the atmosphere (high pressure to the north, low pressure to the south) is in the process of breaking down but will take about 5 days to do so. For southeastern New England, the result is continued dry weather through Friday with a day-by-day warming trend and a tiny uptick in humidity, starting to be noticeable on Thursday and evening more so on Friday. It will It will become much more noticeable over the weekend as low pressure to the south, while falling apart, sends some of its moisture in this direction. However, that low will maintain enough integrity to help turn our wind from southerly to a little more southeasterly by Sunday, which will put a damper on the summertime temperatures at least for coastal areas. Earlier I had been thinking a front may sneak down from the north, but this no longer looks to the the case. Also, since I think any isolated showers and thunderstorms will be confined to the mountains of western and northern New England this coming weekend, I am keeping them out of the forecast for the WHW forecast area.

TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 70-77 coast, 77-84 inland. Wind SE up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 55-62. Wind SE-S under 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. More humid. Highs 75-82 coast, 83-90 inland. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Humid. Lows 60-67. Wind S up to 10 MPH.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Humid. Highs 78-85 coast, 85-92 inland. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Humid. Lows 62-69. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Humid. Highs 78-85 coast, 85-92 inland. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Patchy fog. Humid. Lows 63-70. Wind S under 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Partly sunny. Humid. Highs 72-79 coast, 79-84 inland. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 22-26)

As a front front the west takes its time moving across the region, we should be back in a south to southwest air flow with higher humidity and a risk of showers and thunderstorms June 22-23. An additional wave of low pressure may bring some wet weather June 24 before drier weather arrives later in the period.

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 27 – JULY 1)

A zonal (west to east) flow is expected with variable but overall seasonably warm weather but limit opportunities for any shower activity as the overall pattern continues dry.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK. I “may” just avoid the brunt
of any heat later this week and weekend. I just hope that in this
case, I am not just far enough inland to get to 90 HHH. We shall see.

  2. How about a little guessing game?

I am going to list 10 musical acts, of which I have seen
9 of them live in concert. You have to guess which one
    I have NOT seen.

    Here goes:

    Rolling Stones
    Madonna
    Fleetwood Mac
    Whitney Houston
    The Eagles
    Olivia Newton-John
    Aerosmith
    Sonny and Cher
    U-2
    Maroon Five

      1. Sorry, no. Saw them at Canobie Lake Park in the Summer
        of 1965. πŸ™‚

Also saw Cher at the MGM, Las Vegas in 2004 or 2005.

      1. BINGO! We have a WINNER!!!

Thank you all for joining in. I enjoyed it, hope you did as well.

Never saw U-2. Although I don’t mind them, I never had any desire to see them in concert.

        1. Was my first concert ever they played on st Patrick’s day at the old garden. It was quite the – well I’ll leave it at that lol .

          1. I work with someone who drives for Uber part time.
He picked up a couple at the TD Garden who
were attending a U-2 concert. The guy had too much
to drink and barfed in my co-workers vehicle, so the
woman gave him a $50 commemorative book on
U-2 which he subsequently gave to me.

I am sure it was a totally awesome concert and I am happy you enjoyed it so.

  3. Temperatures are on the rise, but look to be kept in check
near the coast as there is a general easterly flow at the surface.

Logan is up to 68, with 72 degree readings inland.

    1. Sorry, no. Saw her in concert on the boston common during
a period when the City of Boston hosted concerts on the common one summer.

  4. Thank you all for participating as I have been enjoying the guesses. You have eliminated quite a few. We should have
    a winner shortly. πŸ™‚

  5. JJ, love the snow in June tweet. June and July are months that I’m in denial that it can’t snow and so I search the internet for pictures or video’s of snow anywhere in the world. Of course, Hotham ski area in Australia should be a snowy place right about now.

Washington DC is experiencing a protracted period of relatively pollution-free air. This is not just related to the pandemic, as the current weather pattern has played a role, too. https://thehill.com/policy/energy-environment/503150-washington-dc-experiences-cleanest-air-on-record

  6. 70 at Logan, 82 at Norwood.
Dew points are still in check running in the 40s inland
and lower 50s to mid 50s near the coast due to the wind
    off of the water.

  7. I’ll play JPDave’s game. 10 musical acts, I’ve seen 9 of them live, which one haven’t I see:

    Kiss
    Def Leppard
    Metallica
    Janet Jackson
    Megadeth
    Garth Brooks
    Jimmy Buffett
    Journey
    The Beach Boys
    Slayer

      1. I saw the beach boys at the old Boston Garden way back when around 1965. I believe Glen Campbell was playing bass singing Brian Wilson’s part.

      1. June 26, 2018 at Meadowbrook in Gilford, NH, with Anthrax, Lamb of God, Napalm Death, and Testament. Loudest concert I’ve ever been to by a large margin, and it was an outdoor show.

                1. We have a winner! I was supposed to see them open for Ozzy Osbourne in the summer of 2019, but Ozzy cancelled the tour.

                  As for the others:

I’ve seen Kiss 21 times, including February 1 of this year in Manchester (the last show I’ve attended), and have tickets to see them in September at Great Woods (likely going to be postponed)

                  Def Leppard – 12 times
                  Metallica – 9 times
                  Journey – 3 times
Janet Jackson – January 30, 1994 at the Worcester Centrum
Jimmy Buffett – August 9, 2018 at Fenway, and had tickets to see him at Great Woods this summer (postponed until next summer).

    1. The obvious one would be Janet Jackson, but then it’s probably
a trick question, so I’ll go with Garth Brooks.

    1. I was at that Chic / Duran Duran show in 2016. Phenomenal concert in my opinion!

I love how Nile told the story about basically telling his doctor to f off when he was told he’d be dying of cancer, beat the disease and vowed to tour until he wasn’t around any longer. Also love the connection between him & DD. Made their music better in some aspects.

    2. That is quite a list SAK. I see it leans a little bit on the heavy side. πŸ™‚ I have seen several of those on your list, but my entire list
      would pale compared to yours.

I did have tickets to see Def Leopard with Bryan Adams, but
I couldn’t attend due to my Mother’s death.

I did, however, get to see Bryan Adams do a solo acoustic show a few years later at a very intimate setting at the Paradise and he was unbelievably awesome!

      1. I’ve never seen Bryan Adams. I was supposed to see him open for Bon Jovi this summer, but like everything else, it was cancelled.

  8. I would never be able to compete with SAK’s concert list I’m sure. I have seen a lot of acts. Ironically, through process of elimination and a little memory, I would have guessed SAK’s answer correctly. On Dave’s list, the only act I have seen live: Rolling Stones, Steel Wheels Tour, 1988. Living Colour opened the show. Both bands were sensational.

      1. You are correct. I’m not sure where 1988 came from. πŸ˜› I also believe I saw Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers a little earlier the same year, Great Woods.

  9. Darn I missed SAKS. And most of Dave’s. But thank you. Fun diversion

Any others? Concerts or something else

  10. Well it’s a good thing we know have the #’s to prove how bad the GFS is, and it will also be easy to see if anybody is biting at it, since it now suddenly has a craptacular cool and significantly wetter weather pattern for the end of June & early July. Out of the blue, just like that, on the 12z run. OOPS, nevermind, we’re gonna forecast pretty much the opposite now! HAHAHAHA!!!

  11. The GFS was ok in its mid range this spring especially with high temps and precipitation amounts. In the last month it has gone so out of its mind that I find myself almost exclusively doing and ECMWF / NAM / JMA blend. And I am forever the ECMWF skeptic…

Also, in my small neck of the SNE landscape, today was a such a perfect day for my taste. Sunny conditions, variable light breeze. Morning low of 46 high of 85, dew points in the 40s

    1. The ECMWF still suffers from its own set of issues, but I think those issues are more predictable, so the method of anticipated model error becomes a little more useful.

I was just talking about large diurnals like that yesterday, explaining it to someone I see every day.

      1. How many people will read my post and think I am referring to the JMA model? My secret weapon in forecasting!

        1. Um, not I. I remember you absolutely trouncing the
          JMA (Japanese Meteorological Agency).

I know you meant JMA as yourself.
