DAYS 1-5 (AUGUST 2-6)

It’s now early August, and our weather during the next 5 days will be, well, typical of August. Wow, what a coincidence! The general pattern now features weak to moderate high pressure off the US East Coast providing fairly humid conditions, while a series of disturbances come our way from the west and southwest, providing shower and thunderstorm chances. The latter is not the case for today, but plentiful moisture in the atmosphere, both lower and upper, will bring abundant cloudiness and limit any sun. A cold front will amble its way across the region Monday, bringing episodic showers and thunderstorms. This front clears the region and a weak high pressure ridge brings us fair weather during Tuesday, before a disturbance or two bring shower and thunderstorm chances back to our region during midweek.

TODAY: Lots of clouds / limited sun. Highs 79-86. Dew point 60s. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Partly to mostly cloudy. Areas of fog. Lows 63-70. Dew point 60s. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY: Variably cloudy. Showers and thunderstorms likely. Highs 74-81. Dew point near 70. Wind S up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. A shower possible. Areas of fog. Lows 66-73. Dew point 65+. Wind S to SW up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 80-87. Dew point 60+. Wind W up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 66-73. Dew point 65+. Wind SW under 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. A shower or thunderstorm possible in the afternoon. Highs 79-86. Dew point 65+. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 67-74. Dew point 65+. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Partly sunny. A chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Highs 82-89. Dew point 65+. Wind SW up to 15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (AUGUST 7-11)

Continuation of classic summer pattern with high pressure off the Atlantic Coast, moderate to high humidity, and a few shower and thunderstorm chances while most of the time is rain-free. Temperatures near to above normal.

DAYS 11-15 (AUGUST 12-16)

A more west to east flow, limited temperatures variability leaning toward the slightly warmer than normal side, and a couple shower and t-storm opportunities with passing disturbances / fronts during this period at mid August.

    Remembering the hottest day in Massachusetts’ recorded weather history 51 years ago today, August 2, 1975. 107 in New Bedford and in Chester. 102 here in Taunton.

    2. I remember well also. My family was helping family friends move into Dartmouth college. The mom was one of first female professors at Dartmouth.

      We had no idea what the actual temp was but several brought us cool drinks throughout the day.

      Once home. I slept on the livjngroom floor with the doors open to the porch.

  10. Right after last night’s game, the Dodgers immediately made a move to get P Tarik Skubal from the Tigers.

    I hope he won’t start tonight. Will he?

    I heard on WEEI that the loss to the Red Sox was the impetus for the Dodgers getting Skubal…literally. Is that true?

    1. He’s been on the IL since May because of back spasms. He should be in the Dodger rotation soon. Definitely a Game 1 starter in playoff games.

    2. It’s probably someone’s opinion, which neither makes it true nor false.

      Sports radio used to be good, now it’s just mainly a bunch of ego-driven people behind microphones acting like their thoughts are the only correct ones. 🙂

      I used to listen a lot. Can’t stand it anymore. I tune in once in a while to see if anything’s changed, but it really hasn’t.

      1. I can’t stand it. Each one believes they have end-all, be-all insights that no else has.

        I would like to know the number of pundits who said the Red Sox season is over about a month ago.

        1. It’s all I heard when I did turn it on.

          The team sucks. The team is nothing. The team is useless. Well, this season’s over, scrap it.

          I sincerely hope that anybody who truly feels this way is no longer watching, and should not watch at least for the rest of this season. Those are not Red Sox fans. They call themselves fans, but they’re not. 🙂

          1. I agree with every word. Well, maybe except one. I have never been a fan of sports radio. That goes for Boston sports reporters too.

            Other than that, Boston is well known for having a large number of fair weather fans.

  14. 83/69 here. Just came in from some errands out in Dedham where it was raining off and on. Needed the intermittent wipers.
    It was doing that all the way until I reach JP when it stopped. 🙂

  18. The #’s are coming in and southeastern New England’s July was generally the 5th to 10th coolest on record for the region overall.

    For now, Boston’s number needs to be put aside, as it is incorrect.

  19. I just came back from a brief walk. When the wind blows, it’s actually not half bad. But when the breeze stops…UGH!!!

    And of course when the sun peaks out, that “real feel” makes it even more sticky.

    August starting out as downright AWFUL!!! 🙁
