COMMENTARY

Welcome to November 2026! This is the first day of the third month of Meteorological Autumn, and also the day (this year) we have made the switch from Daylight Saving Time to Standard Time. If you have any clocks that do not automatically switch, and you haven’t switched them, now would be the time to do so! My other reason for this commentary section before I move onto the daily forecast discussion and details and look a little further out to mid month is just to thank everybody for being a part of this weather blog! There’s a core group of folks who chat in the comments section daily who are like a family, and it’s always wonderful to see them there. But there are also many folks who are just here to read the blog itself and choose not to participate in the commentary, and that’s perfectly OK. Nobody is required to comment, but you are always encouraged to do so! I do allow a bit off off-weather chat there, but I do maintain a “no politics” policy for obvious reasons. There are other places to take those types of discussions, and I do like to keep the focus mainly on the weather in that section, again with the occasional deviation to maybe a word game or sports or even general news items. I try to monitor the blog the best I can, and have a couple others watching it to make sure things don’t get out of hand. So this part of this commentary is just a reminder to keep that in check. If people think about what they are going to say before they say it, we’d find the need for moderation action would be minimal. I think everybody can do that! And I say this now not because there has been a problem, but just as a reminder only! Regarding my discussions and my own comments, you’ll continue to see the no-hype style I’ve always used, and a blog that may include links to graphics and pictures from other cited sources, but not a blog that I am going to load up with colorful images. I prefer the text blog format as a break from all of that because it’s all out there in abundance, and my opinion of just how much is out there can be saved for another commentary section. Haha! Not that I’m against it. I’m not. But I like this place to be an alternative to all of that, and so it remains! My forecasts are not always going to be on the money – none of us can do that. But you can always be sure that I will give it my best shot and will be ready to admit when I’ve messed it up. If you can’t do that, you can’t learn why you did it and try to improve. That’s part of the scientific method. And meteorology is science. I will continue to use the scientific method when crafting my discussions and predictions. Without that foundation, nothing else you do is going to carry much value. Anyway, I hope you continue to enjoy this blog moving forward through the rest of 2026 and into the year ahead! Two notes: 1) My winter forecast will be issued somewhere around November 20. 2) Most of you know this, but in case you do not, I will be having a heart procedure to repair my mitral valve, as well as an ablation for arrhythmia, in late January of 2027. This will probably result in the blog not being updated for a handful of days starting with the day of the procedure and (if all goes as planned) a couple to a few days in ICU. I’ll update everybody on this as it gets closer. Thanks again everybody for your support!

DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 1-5)

High pressure continues to dominate our weather as we start November and will provide fair, pleasantly cool weather today followed by a warming trend heading toward midweek as the high center slips eastward and offshore. A trough will approach our region by Thursday, with increased moisture due to a southerly air flow on the back side of the high. This introduces the chance of rain showers by that day.

TODAY: Sunny. Highs 56-63. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Clear. Lows 38-45. Wind S under 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 62-69. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 43-50. Wind SW to variable under 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Highs 60-67. Wind variable to S up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 43-50. Wind S up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 62-69. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows 48-55. Wind S 5-15 MPH.

THURSDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of showers. Highs 58-65. Wind S 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

DAYS 6-10 (NOVEMBER 6-10)

A trough from the west and moisture from the south combine for a good shot at widespread rainfall on November 6, after which the surface system departs but upper low pressure keeps it unsettled November 7 before high pressure brings dry weather November 8-9. Next unsettled weather chance ~ November 10. Temps start mild, turn cooler, then moderate. Lots of detail to work out for this period.

DAYS 11-15 (NOVEMBER 10-14)

Unsettled potential early period, then a trend to dry. Temperatures near to above normal.
