  1. Vicki, AstraZeneca hasn’t been forthcoming about the case in the UK of a woman who developed transverse myelitis. As you noted Guillain Barre syndrome can also be induced by a vaccine. Rare adverse event, but does happen.

I like Modern’s approach to being transparent AND realistic. They’ve spelled out in detail why sufficient efficacy data will NOT be available until January at the earliest, and so a vaccine won’t be ready for public consumption until at least several months after that. Realism trumps reckless optimism. I wish reporters and moderators would pin down Trump on this. It’s fine to be cautiously optimistic and to tout the success of Operation Warp Speed (federal government program under Trump), but don’t lie to the people for votes. That’s what he and Meadows are doing. It’s a great disservice to the American people.

European data on coronavirus transmissions getting worse by the day.

Apparently, the UK may let me in – though it’s not certain; border control have forced Americans to return home and not admitted them – in October should I decide to go. But, it’s up to border control to determine if my 3-day trip is “essential” or not. No matter what I would not be able to leave my daughter’s flat. At least I may be able to see her. We’ll see. It’s all so nerve-wracking.

    1. Joshua thank you as always. You are a tremendous source of information.

I sure hope you can see your daughter. I am keeping positive thoughts.

  2. I think I’m seeing increases in the number of cases in many European states and the rate of those increases are very high. Not sure it’s leading to a higher death rate … or at least not yet.

  3. As for college sports, Big Ten Football is back and NCAA men’s and women’s Basketball will begin in November.

  4. Longshot, you are absolutely correct to point out the second wave that appears to be impacting Europe. August was up and down in Europe, so it didn’t appear that a true second wave was happening. But in September we definitely see dramatic rises in cases, but also hospitalizations and deaths in certain countries (France and Spain). Spanish death numbers are now about the same as ours on a daily basis – proportionate to population. France’s numbers are growing. Other countries haven’t yet seen significant increases in hospitalizations or deaths. UK, for example, as seen a small increase in both, but not anything like France or Spain.

    1. Have not seen this confirmed, other than on Twitter. If true, that would be a vindictive move, and one that could backfire. Fauci and Redfield have nothing to lose. They should retaliate by confirming what Olivia Troye said (she’s the coronavirus task force member who resigned in July, and stated today that Trump prioritized re-election over combating the coronavirus), and confront the President, through the media, on repeated blunders, incompetence, and inconsistent messaging.

Pence’s shameless denunciation of Troye, who he labeled a “disgruntled employee” who was “playing politics,” was a below-the-belt move, one not befitting of a man who calls himself Christian. Prior to Troye’s resignation, Pence repeatedly praised Ms. Troye for her work on the taskforce (she was on his team). He was effusive. Now, he blackballs her. Wow.

There are very few fundamental tasks the federal government has, but one is to safeguard public health to the best of its ability. Clearly, the federal government hasn’t done that. Dereliction of duty is a serious problem, which Trump doesn’t take seriously, unfortunately.

      1. I listened to trumps comments on redfield and they turned my stomach. It saddens and terrifies me that many actually believe him.
