Hope that next week Biden and G7 leaders (and others) lay out clear criteria for international travel moving forward. There has got to be a way to facilitate this. My son and his mother aren’t the only ones who haven’t see each other in 18 months! Being fully vaccinated hasn’t moved the needle one iota. America is still completely shut to European visitors. And most European countries are completely shut to Americans. The latter is changing gradually, and countries have at least said when they’ll likely open (eg, Ireland, July 20th). Yet, I don’t see the Biden Administration budging, even though at home they’ve let everything go. Makes no sense. Then again, nothing in American politics ever makes any sense, regardless of who’s in charge.
Question. According to graph you posted yesterday, we are fourth in fully vaccinated And some European countries are seeing a huge increase. As you’ve said, this is a rolling virus. So far we are holding our own…by a thread maybe, but would opening borders risk a break through.? I’d love to think it won’t but just wondering what the risk is for a setback here…if any
We’re still holding our own, especially if you look at fully vaccinated persons. We’re doing better in that department than many other nations.
I suspect that opening up international travel would entail some risk. But surely less risky than what we’re currently doing, which is no mitigation at all, domestically. And we already have all the variants in this country already.
I think that a sensible international travel policy is to allow fully vaccinated folks in so long as they also show a negative PCR test from the past 72 hours, prior to boarding their flight. Very few folks in this category – testing negative and fully vaccinated – will pose a risk of transmission.
Thanks, Joshua. May I assume the vaccinations from other countries are effective for variants? If so, that and a negative test followed by quarantine (a step I feel is as important as the other two) would be enough
Was just chatting on FB with a person from Victoria, (nice name) Australia. The lockdown was extended another week due to Delta. A few others from Australia were on the thread. No one complaining but simply hoping they are in top of it.
C-19 for 6-8 is ready.
