    1. I only have conflicting views when the vaccines are emergency use authorization, their current status. Once they become regularly FDA approved products, which will occur some time this summer, I do not think any healthcare worker should be exempt from having to be vaccinated, unless they’re contraindicated. I think similarly about schools and all the vaccines they require, or even many workplaces. Tufts University, where I worked, required that I was fully vaccinated, including boosters, TB mantoux test checked, etc … before I could start as an employee. Same at Harvard.

      1. I agree re adults. I find it irresponsible to suspend employment for something that is not fully approved. But then this is Texas. The emergency approval for teens and young children is moving too quickly for me. As we saw the other day, they have seen rare signs of an enlarged heart in teens. But then rare os relative since the vaccine is new and not many are vaccinated. Both my younger daughter and I had an irregular heartbeat on and off for three – ish weeks. So we know it has some sort of impact on the heart

    1. I understand covid is not the flu. However, Texas is making an example of nearly 200 medical personnel who stood between us and covid for well over a year. They are heroes IMO.

And according to this …Texas does not require a flu vaccine. Apparently, most states do not. And the flu vaccine is well vetted

  2. Today’s UK report is sobering. Most cases – 7,500 – since February. Most hospitalizations – over 1,000 – since early March. This is not good. I called my daughter and urged her to schedule an appointment. She’ll have her first shot on June 25th and second on September 15th. This spreading out of shots has turned out to be the wrong approach. However much people want to criticize Fauci, he was 100% right about making sure people got vaccinated according to the label; so with a 3 or 4 week period between shots, not 10 or 12 weeks!

The U.S. has entered another plateau period, which is not good news, frankly. We’re allowing the virus to simmer on the back burner. It’s hard to gauge precisely how many cases we have nationwide as states like Florida and Alabama are only reporting once a week (how this is allowed by the federal government is beyond me; infuriating), but the best estimate is around 15k daily. No longer going down, and in fact rising in several hotspots, including Florida and Missouri. My prediction remains the same. We will see a summer spike in the sun belt states. We may also see a ripple of sorts across the entire nation this fall. But, i don’t think the Biden Administration cares at this point. It’s as bad as the Trump Administration in this regard. Their attitude right now is we simply live with the virus and don’t do anything to mitigate. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother to vote at all.

  3. Take a look at the rules or protocols in the UK for watching the upcoming European soccer championship with friends. See link below. These are sensible rules. Not draconian at all. They also apply to ALL – no distinction between the vaccinated and unvaccinated, as the Brits know the honor system won’t hold up, people lie. The Biden Administration is doing none of this. Nothing. In fact, we’re being told to hug again with basically anyone , meet with friends, no distancing whatsoever, go to concerts, be in large crowds unmasked indoors, etc … Zero mitigation. I don’t get it. We’re asking for trouble. Like the Brits, this is not so much about the vaccinated who are protected, it’s about the under (1 dose; skipping 2nd, or have to wait for 2nd) and unvaccinated, for whatever reason. We are our brother’s keeper. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-57386719

    1. I sure absolutely agree with you on all. And would like to add that it is also about the children.

    1. I saw this earlier and intended to post it here. As I have been feeling better about our situation here and more comfortable venturing out, I found this to be a particularly concerning development.

      1. I do NOT want to depict our (U.S.) situation is bad, because it most certainly is not. We’ve done quite well with vaccinations. Caseload is way down compared to January. Overall, we’re doing much better than we were.

Also, my concern is not for the fully vaccinated at this point. Yes, they can contract the virus and a very small number can get sick and can even die. But, it’s a very small number. My concern is the under- (1 dose; skipping 2nd – I just read that this number is approaching 30 million!) and unvaccinated.

Though we’re much better off than in the summer of 2020 – due to vaccines – we’re entering a holding pattern similar to last year, with enough virus (variants) circulating for a sun belt summer spike and autumn comeback. For the under- (1 dose; skip 2nd) & unvaccinated this is a major problem.

        1. I also don’t want to depict our situation as bad. Quite the contrary, I think we are doing quite well….especially schools. My worry is our strong tendency to be short sighted.

      2. Scott, I went into my first business last week. Like you, I’m feeling more comfortable and actually find myself wanting to ignore these. But this and Joshua’s reports in the UK are worrisome

        1. I have found myself doing the same and it’s been a while since I have posted on the C-19 blog, but this report and the UK resonated with me. I am concerned about the population Joshua mentioned above.

    1. There’s a certain TV network that spends an insane amount of time bashing Dr. F, constantly putting video clips of him on the air purposely taken out of context.

I’m thinking to myself how can it be THAT important to continue to bash someone because he didn’t want to fit into a political agenda while there continues to be a series effort to get the world out of the pandemic? But this, no, this is just too important.

Science has always said there would be variants. Even Dr. Fauci said we would not know for sure how many and how severe until they were ongoing. Science. It’s a process. Yet he gets bashed for not being 100% right months and months in advance. It reminds me of people bashing forecasters for not calling the arrival of that thunderstorm 380 hours out. 😉

  4. Haiti has not administered a single vaccine to anyone. The country has been more or less closed since last March., in an effort to stave off the virus. But, it’s now encountering its worse wave of Covid-19.
