  1. Good article in today’s New York Times on the U.S. Covid-19 response.

This particular paragraph caught my eye:

The Japanese government understood early on that the virus was airborne, and they made sure their citizenry knew it. The message became that “People should avoid the three C’s, which are closed spaces, crowded places and close-contact settings. The Japanese government shared this advice with the public in early March, and it became omnipresent. The message to avoid the three C’s was on the news, variety shows, social media and posters. ‘Three C’s’ was even declared the buzzword of the year in Japan in 2020.

Indeed, Japan and other Asian countries have done a much better job at mitigation than we have.

    1. Thanks Joshua.

I know you recall Mac’s comment when the news showed folks in Japan rationing water to help others. I’ve mentioned many times that his sadly commented that we would not do the same.

The government did an exceptional job with covid messaging as you have said. But the people held up their part of the bargain also. Even here, when I sit waiting for groceries to be brought to my car, it is non-whites who are masked for the most part….Asians lead the group. This isn’t racist….this is simply fact.

We blame our government. Yes, they have failed. However, we have failed as a people also

  2. Vicki, you are right. It takes both the government(s) and people doing their part.

By the way, tomorrow marks two years since Dr. Li Wenliang died of Covid. See tweet below. He blew the whistle on what was happening in his city of Wuhan in December 2019, and was harshly reprimanded and threatened by the Chinese government. Some day he will be revered along with the heroes of Tiananmen Square. I have hope that the Chinese will be a free country at some point in the next 50 years. https://twitter.com/Cleavon_MD/status/1490418105788600324
