  1. And this with regard to the numbers of children impacted by covid. Please also read her comments in the thread

In the two weeks before February vacation, when life was back to normal enough that we removed school masks after vacation, these were school numbers in MA alone. Think 1 in 100 in the tweet above

Two weeks prior to February vacation …MA only
    8,885 students
    1,759 staff

    1. You can’t really blame students and school officials wanting to remove masks. It’s only natural to want to see others faces.

Also, I heard on the early morning radio news that travel organizations are now speaking out to Biden to remove masks from all public transit. As someone who relies on it exclusively, I’m certainly in favor of it.

      1. I’m sure there are many exceptions, but none of the kids I know of are bothered by masks. There are some kids who cannot wear a mask…I have a grandson on the spectrum with ADHD. His parents help him

If you read above, the risk to kids IMO sure makes a mask a better alternative

I also know three families who have seriously compromised family members in the home with school age kids. Those kids are terrified. That is why I believe there should be an alternative if masks are to be removed.

  2. The good news is that the Omicron wave continues to recede. It has not stopped receding. I thought it had 10 days ago, but I was wrong. I’m happy to report the positivity rate has also continued to decrease.

There isn’t any bad news to report yet on the U.S. current situation. But, BA.2 is making incursions. It’s now estimated to be around 10% of cases; doubling every 10 days. It is more transmissible and might be more virulent. It would appear that having had BA.1 gives you rather good protection. Obviously, however, the BA.2 growth needs to be monitored. In England, BA.2 is now dominant, at 42% of all cases. In Denmark it represents 96% of cases. In the Netherlands around 60%.

    1. Given the age of many of the Senators and even Representatives, yes. Keep in mind that in the U.S., we’ve had quite a few state senators and representatives die of Covid. I believe a representative-elect, too, in Congress.

Masks aren’t foolproof, but they can prevent transmission.

By the way, I don’t have an issue with wearing a mask. I do find wearing a suit and tie aggravating, but I do that, too, simply to conform when I have to.

I find it utterly pathetic for truckers to protest a vaccine mandate – which is a public health measure, akin to a measles vaccine which the vast majority of them had to show proof of multiple times in their lives. They have a right to protest. But, wow is it soft. Just like those protests in the spring of 2020 protesting shutdowns – “I need a haircut.” There’s a decadence to it, in fact, which I would not have associated with the right. I always associated decadence with the left. Covid was a minor crisis compared to what the Ukrainians are going through. I’d like to hope we’d show more unity and sense of sacrifice in the face of Covid. Alas.

      1. I am hearing that the vast majority of truckers are vaccinated. The thought was that fringe groups are taking advantage of the situation. And they are being fed by ultra right wing members of our government.

Your last word says it all…..Alas

          1. There has not been a lotto smile about for several days but……This is something that finally has me smiling.

  3. No masks with very few exceptions. While I think it is a fools errand, if they are showing unity, I don’t care how they do it
