  1. It is the first time in three years that we will all be together for my son’s birthday. Two years ago, we were trying to figure out what to do. It was my son who finally said he didn’t think it was a good idea for us all to get together since we didn’t know much about this new virus but it sounded risky. Broke my heart as it was the first time I had not seen one of my children on their birthday.

Little did we know what was to come …..

I would like to thank TK for this page….brilliant idea 😉 ….and everyone who has posted during the past two years. It has brought knowledge and the feeling that we are not alone but have good friends….even if not in the same place physically.

  2. Does anyone know the requirements for Emergency Use Authorization for a vaccine? I know some of the COVID vaccines have been granted full FDA approval but I don’t think the Pfizer one for 5-11 year olds has and is still under EUA status. Given the current COVID situation, I wonder if it still qualifies under this or if they have to submit for full approval.

      1. Thanks Joshua. My son just turned 5 and we’re really struggling to make a decision. I’ve asked for the pediatricians input and links to current data for this age group and he looks at us like we’re crazy and why would we deny our son the vaccine. He’s given us nothing. I’m just not sure.

        1. Ace, I’m not sure what you mean by emergency use. My youngest grand, Rilyn Max, was five in august. She had her first vaccination just before Christmas. Or just after …sorry, I can’t remember the dates for all of the kids.

I have done a lot of research as you may have seen here on when kids should get the second vaccine. Most have recommended 8-10 weeks between. The US just figured this out and announced the same a few weeks ago

Both of my daughters have an excellent pediatrician but she was absolutely useless when they asked questions. It seems to be the way pretty much across the board judging by what other parents have said.

I can did out some of the links I found if you are interested. But I also may be wayyy off base with the answer you were looking for

You are very special parents to be doing your research. That IMO is what your son’s pediatrician should have said also

            1. Thanks Vicki! Yes I’ve read through all that. I guess I’m wondering if the emergency use authorization the FDA has given Pfizer for the 5-11 year old population should still apply since the state of the pandemic has changed (for the better) and is no longer an emergency situation. And to the best of my knowledge, Pfizer has made no attempt to file for full authorization for this age group. I have to ask myself why not? For us, it comes down to risk vs. reward. At this point late in the pandemic, I’m having a hard time justifying a vaccine with relatively small clinical sample size in this age group

              1. Thank you, Ace. That makes absolute sense. I don’t know what BA.1 will do here so think that is the wild card. Five of my six grands have had the first vaccine. But that was when the proverbial you know what hit the fan.

It is such a difficult decision. I know whatever you and Mrs Ace decide will be the very best for your guy.

                1. Thanks Vicki! I also forgot to add, the first and second shots are only 3 weeks apart. Is that the norm?

  3. Thanks TK.

Cambridge will lift their indoor mask mandate at midnight. Their schools will no longer require masks as well.

    1. I heard that, and he was fully vaccinated no less. At least his wife Michelle tested negative.

      1. Being vaccinated doesn’t prevent you from testing positive. You can still carry it regardless of whether or not you have symptoms.
