  1. Lockdown in Shanghai is draconian. See link below. This form of strict lockdown would not be tolerated here or in Europe, or really anywhere where a non-authoritarian regime is in charge. Even under an autocratic regime, Shanghai residents are protesting these extremely harsh measures. Ironically, could the measures taken in a totalitarian state be used against it? Could this lead to change in China? I’m hoping, as I’ve followed the tortuous path that China has taken since it got rid of Maoism. I’m not hopeful, however. The supreme leader (for life) Xi Jinping is reverting back to certain Maoist policies; certainly in the area of absolute government control. https://twitter.com/brianstelter/status/1513520143170682891

    1. There are some nasty people in the world, especially those who lead China & Russia.

  2. Britain’s situation is still precarious. https://www.bmj.com/content/377/bmj.o950

This is notable, given that the UK is perhaps the best comparator for the U.S. I am not saying we will see the same situation as the UK. But it’s likely our situation will be similar, at least in some regions.

  3. Increases in official case counts continue in Massachusetts. Steady rise – about 36% compared to last week. This is now translating into a modest increase in hospitalizations. Nothing alarming, but noticeable. Will likely increase further this week and next.
