  1. Had a sore throat for the past 2 days. Didn’t think much of it until I got a severe nausea attack this morning; started at 4am. Worst flare up for me in 5 years, and it felt/feels much worse than my IBS/GERD spikes. I decided to do a rapid test. It’s positive. So, I had the first Omicron back in January/February. Then I got the second Omicron 3 months later. Reinfections are VERY common. I’ve been saying this since the summer of 2020.

I feel so crappy. Have no idea how I got it again. I work from home. I’m not a social butterfly, but of course I do go out to do grocery shopping/pharmacy. It could also be all the workmen who come in and out of the building (there are multiple renovations going on), or the people I interact with here. I did notice my neighbor wearing a mask yesterday in the building. She never does that. She’s someone I chatted with in the vestibule as were collecting our mail on Monday. I helped her with several heavy packages.

Another factor may be that I’ve been very busy with work (even now I’m doing what I can, as I have several deadlines looming), and I’ve been preoccupied with a number of serious family issues. I think this lowers one’s immune system.

I’m just grateful I did not get it while in England.

    1. So sorry about that Joshua. Get well soon!

Here at Mass. Art where I work, Covid testing is now available again and recommended for all faculty, staff and students but it’s not mandatory for now. I may get tested today just for the heck of it but I feel quite fine in that regard. Residents in the dorms are moving out for the semester (previously scheduled) so that should help considerably.

As for masks, the mandate indoors here never got lifted anyway.

      1. Joshua, do you have LONG Covid or is it a new reinfection of Covid-19?

        Again, get well soon!

        1. New infection. I did not get long covid in January. Felt fine after 10 days and have generally felt well since then, until now.

      2. Thanks.

Peaked out my window and saw that the husband of the person I helped the other day is also wearing a mask; outdoors, in fact. I’ve never seen him with a mask. I think he and his wife got sick, and I think I got it from her on Monday. We were maskless, while in the vestibule for about 10 minutes and while I was helping with heavy packages for about 10 minutes.

I joked about how contagious this virus is, saying that it will soon spread by way of Zoom calls.

    2. Joshua – I’m sorry to hear that you are going through all this. I hope that you are able to get some good rest and have a quick recovery.

    3. Joshua. I am very sorry to hear this. I hope you feel better very soon. It is always curious when you have no idea where it came from. Positive thoughts headed your way

  2. Here at work, we now have the Covid-19 Antigen self-tests with an expiration date of “March 2022”.

Joshua, will these tests still be accurate?

  3. Haven’t looked here in many weeks. Figured I’d come check it out as I finally caught Covid–inevitable it seems. Sore throat Thursday, felt really ill Friday morning, achy, chills–faint positive line. By 10:00 AM everything had passed and I was just a bit fatigued the rest of yesterday. Today I feel totally fine but my rapid test is quite positive so I’ll ride out my 5 days in isolation and hope for a negative test to go back to work on Day 6. Wife and kids are still healthy and testing negative. May that continue…

    1. Thanks.

Sore throat is abating, which is good.

      Feel queasy, but not awful.

Ate a decent-sized lunch and am now sipping on lemon ginger tea.

      1. Not much of a tea person (other than iced with lots of sugar) but do whatever you have to to get better. I’m certainly no doctor but don’t have too many heavy meals until that queasy feeling goes away.

  4. Dave, take care. Glad your symptoms came and went quickly.

Vicki, I do think I got it from the neighbors. I just emailed them. They both have symptomatic Covid – hence the masks that they’re now wearing. They’re not that sick. Similar symptoms to Dave and me (by the way, I’m not sure that my GI stuff is Covid-related – could be I’m flaring again with IBS/GERD, like I did 4 and 5 years ago, frequently).

I was wearing masks in my building until a few months ago. But, I stopped doing so, which is kind of dumb of me considering there are lots of folks in the building who I bump into, including workmen and guests of other unit owners. The spaces, like the vestibule and laundry room, are poorly ventilated. I’m not saying a mask would have prevented it, but I would have had a better chance of prevention.

    1. I know soooooo many people that have Covid now. Many more than at any point. The good news is nobody in my circles who have it have been sick for more than a day or two. Vaccines/boosters doing their thing

  5. Joshua, are those neighbors fully vaccinated? It’s bad enough to get Covid in a public building but in a building where you actually live is scary, and especially since you live alone.

With regard to bringing back mask mandates I am thinking about an old saying:

“Once the genie is out of the bottle”…it’s hard to put it back in, or something like that. It may be best to continue to give folks the option and see where this pandemic leads us.

    1. Thanks, JJ.

Philip, yes, the neighbors are fully vaccinated and boosted. They’re in their 60s. Friendly people. I’m not blaming them at all. These things do happen. This is a very contagious virus.

While I could have gotten it in other places, like CVS. I doubt it. I wear a mask in those places, keep my distance, and have fleeting contact with people. Very unlikely it took place outdoors. I don’t mask outdoors, by the way.

      1. I count my blessings that I did NOT get the virus while in England last August, and in March.

  6. Joshua, I’m thinking of you tonight and hope you are improving and will continue to improve quickly
