  1. Re-posting something I posted late last night.

There’s a part of me that is saying we can throw seasonality out the window with Covid. Look at these wastewater signals in the Boston area (hint – not good): https://twitter.com/walidgellad/status/1526009790719217664

This is why I think it’s imprudent/dumb/stubborn/wrong for Gottlieb and others to make bold predictions over and over again. He did it again this weekend. Much better to wait and see, and obviously hope for the best. The predictive models have all been VERY wrong for the last 12 to 18 months.

  2. There is good news to report regarding global deaths. They’ve come down to around 2,000 a day. Currently, the U.S. accounts for around 20% of those deaths.

I suspect that with the news from North Korea and China, the deaths numbers will rise. But, I don’t think we’ll get back to 5,000 deaths a day, at least not in the near term.

    1. I just don’t know who to believe anymore. I see very few people wearing mask. And many days I see no one wearing mask. Went shopping yesterday and saw I believe 2 maybe 3 people out of say 100 people I saw.

      1. Oddly, despite the outrage as masks being reinstituted in Northampton, my daughter has to travel there before the mandate and said the majority out that way were masked.

  3. Business trip to Chicago is done but not without worry. I wore a mask the entire time (not required anywhere). Mask wearing on the fights was about 25% or passengers. Airports a bit less. I was one of about 250 from my company gathering in small spaces and conference rooms. All I could think of was the Biogen conference that started it all in the Boston area. Hopefully nothing comes of it but I’d be shocked if it didn’t. We had to test 48 hours before the trip but we all know how bad the home tests are.

    1. I sure understand that being nerve wracking. Glad you are back. Positive thoughts for you. I will never understand lifting masks on planes

  4. You’ve probably read about the pediatric hepatitis and adult stroke cases. There is suspicion that Covid may be a cause. This is certainly possible. But, I am NOT going there yet. I think it’s irresponsible to definitively do so, as some experts have done. Correlation is not causation. We need to examine the evidence more carefully. Perhaps there is causation, which would be a terrible thing and very worrisome. But, I think it’s alarmist to prematurely declare a causal connection.

  5. Ace, thanks for your post. Olice, also thanks for your post.

Gottlieb just posted this, saying that reinfections are common with Omicron. We (I certainly!) already knew this, but it’s good to be reminded. https://twitter.com/ScottGottliebMD/status/1526242689661943809

I hope this study is premature in its conclusions. Note, my earlier post today on the correlation between coronavirus infections and cardiovascular disease. I’m not sold on this correlation and certainly not on the causation. But, am I being too optimistic? https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-022-00403-0

  6. You can order 8 free tests from the government. Just go to the website COVIDtests.gov and order yours. It’s very easy to do. I just ordered my set of free tests.

    1. Thanks Joshua. I got my 8 thru Medicare but the pharmacy gave me a brand that keeps losing FDA approval.

  7. Well that didn’t take long. Just got an email from HR saying 5 people tested positive from my company and I’ve been identified as a close contact from the trip. There will be more I’m sure of it. This staff meeting was for everyone in the company spread out over 10 sites across the US.

      1. Thanks Vicki. I feel fine for now but they’ve told us to test on Wednesday and everyone needs to work from home this week. We’ve been doing these virtually for 2 years and the CEO thought this time would be ok based on numbers a month ago when planning for the event started. Also, since the people are coming from multiple locations, most of those don’t have high numbers. The positive cases were all from the East coast offices (Boston and NY).

  8. Joshua, (or anyone with expertise) do u have any insight on the period of use for the at home COVID tests? The ones I have expire on June 1st (6 months from DOM). From my background in IVD mfg and quality I know real time stability studies are always being run through at least 2 years. At the time, all they could claim was 6months shelf life but I can imagine they have more data. Do you think in your expert opinion the tests are good past 6 months?

        1. I hope it helps. If not let me know and I’ll see if I can get a couple of tests for you

  9. Good question, Ace, and I’m sorry but I just don’t know. I assume that if kept in a cool place the tests will be okay. But, that’s not a professional opinion.

    1. We’ve had tests at the school extended to 12 mos from DOM for 3 different brands (BinaxNow, OnGo, and iHealth) from the FDA

      1. Thanks Dave. I’d seen that also but am hesitant to trust since we do have access and guidance has been less than stellar from FDA.
