  1. Thanks tk and since the weather is so quiet I just wonder with ridership on the commuter rail up some 15% shouldn’t they be expanding the trains, bus’s etc etc, I don’t get it, it’s almost like they don’t want more people to come into city, and on a side note it’s 2012 and they have a 1 lane exit off of 95 north going onto 93 north, it’s been backed up from 615am-1015am every single morning, why don’t they widen the highway system good grief we really don’t get it, from such a smart part of the world we patiently are dumb, we all need to compromise, if u want to live in a bedroom community live out where I am in wrentham, don’t live around 128 and fight a 12 story skyscraper proposal, that’s dumb 🙂 its 2012 enough building cvs’s and car dealerships, bring jobs to the suburbs, the day that the residents accept that this area will be a better place to live 🙂 have a great day everyone

    1. You know, I’m a crazy liberal socialist who thinks that public transportation should be free to but down on car and gas usage, and that Boston tax dollars should be used to subsidize this service (I know – move to Canada you crazy kid). That being said, I do feel fortunate that the cost of transport only went up 23%. Still beats NYC and SF!

      1. I would agree with you about free public transportation. That’s a great idea and one that would help the city and suburbs attract new people and businesses. I think that the MBTA is not managed efficiently enough and has similar problems as our state government.

        1. It has – perhaps if they had been a little smarter and raised rates slowly over the past 5 year, this wouldn’t have been so jarring for folks.

          1. True but they should be intelligent enough to understand that. Your idea of free public is not a bad one but what about those who do not work where public is available? Makes it hard to have tax dollars pay for something you don’t use and swallow the cost of gas, auto and auto ins increases.

            1. I hear ya, Vicki. However the reverse is also true. I myself do not own a car or use the roads often, but I understand that in order for the mail to get to me, for food supplies to be routed and for public safety employees to do their job that my tax dollars are necessary. The same can be said of many of the services that folks who use public transportation provide. So though you may not use the service directly, the investment would not be a poor one.

All that being said, I totally understand the point you are trying to make. Imagine how people nationally feel about the big dig project!

              1. I have to think about those points – they are well made. And the big dig is a joke – they said today that the lights have to all be replaced b/c they are faulty – tens of millions I believe.

            2. Why don’t they expand the trains, bus’s? The ridership r all up at record levels, see and then they wonder why new Englanders leave, sometimes so frustrating to live somewhere where it takes 15yrs to build a skyscraper cause u got to go through bylaws and bird laws and plant laws (kidding but this is how bad it is) and then the lady’s plants that won’t get sun bc of it, it’s truly embarrassing, the best one was the lady that disapproved bc construction is gonna last for 3 yrs, what??? So nothing should ever be built ever again and watch Boston turn into nothing over the next 50yrs, anyways that’s enough, I’m officially into weather

  2. It’s crazy that the 1st thing on some residents mind within 15 miles of downtown Boston r worried about increased traffic, even if there medium to high paying jobs, widen the road then!! I’m finally starting to see alot of surveyors out hopefully the beginning of something better, I love Boston and suburbs but everything from height limits to zoning changes must be changed, it drags the area down IMO, enjoy the day folks I’m done with the rant 🙂

  3. And now back to the weather 😉

Latest model runs show this cool, on again off again showery sometimes, no soaker, whatever you call it, pattern lasting thru next week. No big warm up. Blocking high still in place. GFS shows it could be breaking down end of next week, or beginning of the following week with humidity levels and temps comig up a bit. Any way you cut it, it looks to me like more of the same for the next 8-10 days. After that, we might see at least some warmer temps. But all thats moot if the models fall aprt, which i totally expect they will 🙂
Someone correct me if i’m reading the models incorrectly. I’m somewhat new to this.

    1. I think your analysis is pretty good…….More changes to projections to come in the next few days, as the NAO outlook changes on a daily basis and the possibility of cutoff lows in this blocky flow adds to the uncertainty.

        1. Unfortunately Vicki, I don’t think most areas will see a total of .25 inches of rain in the next 5 to 7 days. Could even be less than .10.

          1. Wow it seems to be getting serious. I was visiting my daughter this morning and when I left was surprised to smell fire. She lives in south central MA where it’s more woods than houses

  4. I think that’s about right. Longer range GFS shows a more southerly flow, higher dew points, and a potential low wound up off the NC coast about the 13th. That might give us some rain, but that’s 8 days out and it could stay south of us. It still seems like we get warmer with higher dew points. Really, this is pretty typical temps for early Apriil, just no moisture to tap into. I think we need to get out of this northwesterly flow and more westerly or southerly flow to get some warmer, moister air. This northwesterly air is as dry as dust.

  5. I think this might be a record low for posts in a day…we’ve definitely hit a “dry” spell.

Went outside at lunch today and it was uncomfortably cool with a biting wind. Bright sunshine yet not too much warming going on.

        1. I’m thinking DS and I are closer but discussion is how you learn. Not here I know since this is weather There are no wrong opinions:)

  6. Tom,
Agree with u on nao all over the place. Looks to go back neutral and then positive around the 13th or so. That looks to coincide with the block breakdown. Everyone knows I like hotter weather, but I’m afraid once the block breaks down and we get into a more consistently southerly, warmer pattern, the chances of rain diminish. I’m still thinking this may be similar to 2010. That was a dry summer!

  7. Hi all!
Been another busy day in a very busy week.

Next update will come this evening but no big changes are likely coming to this forecast of a mainly dry and cool pattern. As expected, the long-lasting warm pattern is a thing of the past and there are no believable signs of a return to it any time soon.

  8. When meta use the term “anytime soon”, what’s the time frame? I’ve heard it used a lot and assumed it meant 10-12 days, or as far out as the long term GFS.

  9. Thanks. That’s about what I thought.
Maybe we’ll get a pattern change after patriots day. I still think until we get rid of this flow and the dew points stay like they are, the chance of meaningful rain is about nile.

    1. Speaking of patriots day. Anyone here running marathon or taking partin any reenactments in concord or Lexington ?

  10. Freddie always seems to do well at the Masters. He has made I forgot the number and its pretty high for consecutive cuts made. My family also tailored easter around the Masters. Tiger is lurking at even par and I would not count him out.

    1. Wow. Husband is impressed. He thinks freddie made cut 22 or maybe 23 times. And in addition to win had 9 top 10. Tiger is not my favorite and that’s not really fair I know. You are right to never count him out. Enjoy. It’s always a special weekend

      1. I should have said he’s impressed that anyone else tailored Easter around the tournament 🙂
