Saturday Update

7:56AM

Hanging on to lots of clouds today, though cannot rule out a few breaks of sunshine later in the day as dry air starts to work down from the north. Though it does not look like completely clearing tonight, hopefully enough clearing will take place to be able to view the “Super Moon” which is the full moon at perigee (closest it gets to the Earth). This time it is the Full Flower Moon, and if we can see it tonight it will appear about 14% larger and 20% brighter than average, just enough to be noticeable to the naked eye.

2 day break: Sunday & Monday. Splendid days, though it will still be a little cool at the coast as the wind will want to come off the water there. Look for a few areas to reach 70 away from the shore on Monday afternoon.

Back to the gray: What I said recently about a dry spell coming was not quite right. Though we are not getting socked with heavy rain, we’re certainly in a pattern that’s a little more gray and damp than what we saw much of the Spring so far. This will be proven true again as we enter another such stretch of weather on Tuesday that we may struggle to get out of for a few days. At this point I am going to lean away from a big storm and heavy rain that was depicted on some computer guidance and go with a more showery scenario for Tuesday-Thursday, with end-of-week improvement and (peeking ahead) hopes for a great weekend for May 12-13 (which includes Mothers Day).

In the mean time, an updated forecast for eastern MA, RI, and southern NH…

THIS MORNING: Overcast with patchy fog and drizzle and a slight chance of a shower. Temperatures 48-55 rising slowly toward noon. Wind LV mainly NE.

THIS AFTERNOON: Mostly cloudy but a few breaks of sunshine are possible late day. High 60-65 except 55-60 coast. Wind NE-N up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Patchy valley fog. Low 43-48 except 38-43 some deeper valleys. Wind light variable.

SUNDAY: Partly sunny. High 55-60 coast, 61-66 inland. Wind N-NE up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Sunny. Low 49. High 60 coast to 70 inland.

TUESDAY: Cloudy. Chance of showers. Low 50. High 62.

WEDNESDAY: Cloudy. Showers likely. Low 49. High 60.

THURSDAY: Cloudy. Chance of showers. Low 49. High 61.

FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy. Low 47. High 63.

  1. Thanks TK!!

Have we seen Hadi in a while? Work has been busy for me so I might just have missed him. I know the baby is due a week from today.

  2. I hope that “Super Moon” will be visible on my way home from work later this evening. Here in Boston and along the coast it is always so difficult getting rid of the clouds. I am also concerned about any potential fog as well. We will see.

Hey TK…I see once again you have decided not to “drink the kool aid” regarding the midweek rainfall. Remember what happened last time? 😉

Having said that, Friday (yesterday) ended up being mostly dry after earlier forecasts were for a washout. It certainly looked like it would pour at any time though. It was the darkest, gloomiest day I have seen in quite a while. The only “clearing” was on the radar with very few echoes.

    1. I remember what happened last time, and I maintain the forecast I have now, despite that. 🙂

  3. went out for a morning kayaking and its cloudy and a bit chilly by the river as temps are in the upper 40s. middle 50s at the house. THere was that occasional sprinkle. Water levels have been constant at normal hights. Going to my cousins this afternoon. Neibor asked if its okay for her and a few others to use the docks when we are not home since some of her friends from Pensilvania is up for the weekend.

  4. Good morning there is some brightness and even saw the sun about 5 min ago, just got out, it’s really a decent day out here 🙂

  5. I’m also hoping we will be able to see the super moon Anyone watch the derby? I’m not a horse racing fan simply because at the lower level treatment of horses is questionable. But at derby level these guys are remarkable.

      1. The pre race is fun with the history. My oldest – the equestrian – has a derby party every year. We’ve all been cooking up a storm – not to mention making the simple syrup for the mint juleps – and will head there soon

        1. That sounds fun Vicki. We are hoping to watch it at my parents right before we all head out to dinner.

          1. I have very little interest in horses, I’ll probably watch the basketball game with my nephew though 🙂

  6. We’ve had alot of sunny breaks here, sun is coming through clouds as we speak 🙂

    1. We are socked in pretty good with fog down here on the north coast of Plymouth. No sign of that big full moon. 🙁

        1. Me too!! I went into Stop and Shop to pick up a few things and couldn’t believe the fog when I came out. A woman walking out at the same time as me said she feels like she is living in Seattle. 🙂

          1. The fog can roll in there just like it does on the west coast. I am always amazed when I am in a totally clear area and look down the beach and see a blanket of fog approaching. It’s pretty cool but not on a super moon night

  7. Well darn. I just went out on the deck to sit and watch the moon and we have clouds now

  8. The Moon was so big. Going over the marsh… Tomorrow I convinced my parents to let us go to the north shore tomorrow night and get some pics of the moon.

  9. I hope no one on here has to deal with what I have to deal with tonight. MY house was vandalized. A 1000 dollar window smashed with eggs and rocks.

    1. It’s very sad when people with nothing better to do have to resort to that kind of stuff.

They should just stick to their video games where at least they can destroy stuff in a virtual sense.

    2. Sorry to hear that Matt. I hope they find out who did it, so they can face the consequences for their actions.

    3. Matt, sorry to hear that your property was violently violated. That really sucks! Hopefully, no one was hurt from broken glass!

    4. I am so sorry Matt. It’s an awful thing to have happen and a sickening feeling just knowing someone else has been in a place that is where you are supposed to be the safest. Please tell your family how sorry we all are

  10. Thank you for all the support guys. Just wish we can actually catch these kids doing it so we have prof that they did it. We also found a buch of hay in our pool and a large dent in our car this morning.

      1. I have done nothing to them . I have better things to do than than dealing with middle schoolers

  11. Had a chance to see the moon for a bit last night. It wasn’t crystal clear skies, almost like the moon was visible thru a light fog.

    1. It was too low for us to see clearly from the house but it sure did light up our bedroom through the skylight

  12. put back to a positive note. ITs going to be sunny and nice today and monday
bad rain and unsettled weather comes through for tuesday -thursday night.

  13. Not a sunny day. I went partly sunny on yesterday’s forecast for today thinking we’d see the pop up thing happening with a combination of low level moisture, sun’s heating (briefly and sporadically but enough) with cold air above, and some convergence with variable winds. It didn’t take long to happen.

I’ve updated the blog but will be doing a more substantial update this evening (probably after 9:30PM). Have a great day!

P.S. … Charlie: Some areas will probably see 1 to 2 inches between Tuesday & Thursday but I’m not sure how widespread the coverage will be of solid 1″+ amounts. The drought is almost on pause, though we still run a deficit of rain. If we go back into a dry pattern heading toward late May and June we’ll be in trouble all over again. But for now, the lawns will be growing!

    1. I pretty much agree I just don’t want to write that much, I will add I think it favors south of the pike for 2 inch amounts.

  14. Why do we have excise tax? And does any other state have this? And when and how did this get voted in. I feel like its a daturant to buy a new car.

        1. You might want to investigate what taxes will increase if it goes away. Money I believe goes to the town so prop taxes might increase. I wonder if it takes all burden off homeowner. I like that idea. I don’t know enough about it but would research thoroughly before making a decision
