Saturday March 2 2024 Forecast (8:17AM)

DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 2-6)

The first weekend of March will be so-so. Today is a cloudy day and eventually rain overspreads the region as a small area of low pressure slides northeastward from the Mid Atlantic toward southeastern New England, passing by tonight. Rain ends overnight as low pressure starts to pull away, but it does look like this low will intensify enough to aid in a partial clearing process on Sunday as it pulls in some drier air from the north. I’m not expecting complete clearing, but at least some sun may appear. The clouds will still remain in general control as we get to Monday through Wednesday, with another couple of weather systems to impact the region. First, another small low pressure area will drift up from the south and bring some additional rainfall by Tuesday. I was optimistic this may stay off to the south and east yesterday, but not so much now. And then a cold front will sag toward the region from the north on Wednesday with additional unsettled weather. However at that time we’ll still be on the mild side of the front. One thing we won’t be dealing with anytime during this 5-day period is harsh cold as that still remains well to our north.

TODAY: Cloudy. Brief rain showers northeastern MA / southeastern NH early. Rain overspreads the region this afternoon. Highs 45-52. Wind SE up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Cloudy. Rain this evening, ending overnight. Areas of fog. Lows 38-45. Wind SE to E up to 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Any fog thins out but clouds linger, and may break for sun at times in the afternoon. Highs 45-52. Wind NE to N 5-15 MPH.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Patchy fog. Lows 38-45. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly cloudy. Highs 46-53. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Lows 38-45. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Cloudy. Chance of rain. Highs 47-54, coolest coast. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Chance of rain. Lows 40-47. Wind E to variable up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain showers. Highs 48-55. Wind variable to W 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (MARCH 7-11)

Trending colder. Two storm systems potentially impact the region with rain/mix/snow chances, one March 7 and the other on the March 9-10 weekend.

DAYS 11-15 (MARCH 12-16)

Drier weather favored early period. Unsettled weather returns mid to late period. Temperatures near to above normal.

      1. I remember the stories from my youth. I’m not sure I understand why these cars were there after all the warnings.

        1. Because people can be idiots, especially people who are confident they can make it to their ski lodge before the snow gets too bad.

      2. I wonder if the last sentence should instead be “It’s a race to see if they can clear the interstate before a repeat of the winter of1846–1847.” 🙂

      1. I remember watching those Olympics too. As for reason for name change, well I’ll just let that go with a sigh

    1. I have fished UNDER that bridge many times!!!
Was telling my wife the same thing last night. 🙂

  1. Lived not so far away from Donner Pass for years and can tell you that people did not drive all that well when the weather was good. Too many just looking around and not minding the road! When the weather was bad, we never went through it.

    1. Sounds like an awesome place to live. And drivers sound a bit like many in MA ….and they are concentrating on the road !!

  2. What’s the table part of a standard picnic table, about waist high or say, 3 ft above the ground ?

Well, on a Tahoe webcam at lake level, the picnic table is now basically submerged by snow.

  3. Thanks TK.

We are up at Pico skiing today. First time here in probably 25 years. Nice mountain with some old school trails and much less crowded than Killington. Mountain is 90 % open but needless to say some natural snow trails have variable conditions and thin cover in spots. Mild temps though so snow is soft and not too icy.

  4. 190 mph wind gust reported last night at the top of the Siberia lift at Palisades. 9 mph off the California state record.

Palisades has reported 41” on the storm so far but they acknowledged the totals are likely much higher, just impossible to measure with the winds.

  5. The euro is adjusting to a colder solution late next week/weekend but with the NAO going negative and potential blocking, I thing a mid Atlantic/NYC hit of cold rain or snow with a miss for New England, is on the table.

  6. EURO has accumulating snow for Boston late next week which would get them to double digits for the season.

    1. 0.3” or more would do it! The way this season has been going, THAT would be an accomplishment.

    1. Of course this being one simulation from one run of one model, I’m just going to keep watching trends and the overall meteorology of the pattern.

So far, this is one of the best potential set-ups in quite a long time for a good measurable frozen precipitation event, as far out as it is at this point. That time distance factor must be applied as always.

The polar jet stream is going to be involved in that set-up.

        1. Yes indeed! I’m kind of excited for this one, actually. Does it happen? Maybe. But something about this one is just hitting me differently. I’ll keep watching…

  7. So, other than the potential for breaks tomorrow, we may not see the sun again around here until after we switch to DST. HAHA!

    1. As I mentioned above, your Mayo County, Ireland forecast is much appreciated even though it’s dreary as heck.

    1. This is AWESOME!!! thank you!
Of course, loved the original as well!!! Loved the Velvet Under Ground. I was in my 3rd year of college when that came out. 🙂

  8. Whelp, we just jinxed ourselves. Italy trip booked, leaving June 20th. Two snow days already, and only have room for 1 more…

      1. Mostly to visit family. It will be the kids first time there. Outside of staying in the farm house in Sulmona we’re planning a couple beach days and a mini trip to Gubbio where my FIL grew up. I just DL’ed the Duolingo app so I’m learning! I saw the thing u posted the other day but could not read it, my wife who is fluent couldn’t read it either.

        1. What a special trip. I know an angel who will be traveling with you

I was afraid of that. It has faded over the years. And a photo made it worse. I can make out some. Thank you and please thank mrs Ace. It is a painting that mac parents bought in Roma. It was always a favorite of Mac’s. Whatever it says is from the artist.

  9. Of course, the B’s are intent on giving me 2 heart attacks and 2 strokes once again tonight!!

    Down 2-0 in the first!!

    1. That was an impressive show by Kyle & the team.

The best thing a team can do is catch a good team while they are in a slump. Islanders win 4 in a row. Bruins lose 4 of the last 5.

After all these years, NYI are still my 2nd favorite team in the league. They have been since in the 1970s.

      1. Definitely wasn’t expecting that outcome. It was arguably their best 60 min performance of the season tonight. And they beat two good teams in Dallas and Detroit earlier in the week. We’ll see if they can keep it going next week. They need every point they can get right now as they are still 5 points out of the playoffs behind Philadelphia, although they do have two games in hand.

        1. I never turn my back on any of my teams.
          Never. Real fan. Always. 🙂

I never believe that people who quit on them are real fans. They are fair weather fans. 🙂

          1. Turning off the game is turning your back on the team , yeah ok that makes sense . They sucked last night , oh my you can’t say that .

            1. If you’re turning it off because “they suck”, then yes. I didn’t say you couldn’t say it, dude. But if you do say it, you’re going to get my opinion in reply. And that’s my opinion. 🙂 I’ve always felt that way, and I’ve never hidden it.

It’s like when people leave a game they’re at because the team is losing. Not because they have somewhere more important to be.

What’s even greater is when people leave a game because the team is losing, and they come back and win. 😉

And where did I say “You can’t say they sucked last night”? Don’t make things up my friend. Yes, they did play a poor game last night. And you know what? Even very good (or great) teams play poor games. That’s the nature of it. And part of the reason it makes it more interesting to follow a sport – or a team.

              1. As you know I absolutely agree. A fan is someone who supports a team WIN or LOSE. In truth the latter may be the time support is most needed.

    1. Was daughter’s wing man …errr woman….when she let dogs out. Stood on the deck to scare coyotes away. 🙂 🙂 No wind at all here. But a lovely steady gentle rain. I love the sound
