June Tune

8:39PM

The tune of June is often one of lingering volatility from the early and mid Spring, and the increasing amount of days foreshadowing the Dog Days of Summer that lie ahead. We see a bit of both during the next 7 days as weather systems traverse the region with some regularity, bringing changing air masses and bouts of rainfall interspersed with drier weather. Sounds pretty typical, doesn’t it? It is.

The breakdown of these systems:

Low pressure and a cold front approaching from the west Tuesday which will be a fairly warm day with a southerly wind (though the coast will be cooler due to ocean water’s influence). The cold front will get into the region Tuesday night at which time we’ll see an increase in showers and thunderstorms. The front will move very slowly through the region Wednesday so showers and a few thunderstorms will linger, especially in eastern areas through midday, while cloudiness dominates the region for much of the day. A wave of low pressure will followed this up on Thursday, bringing more wet weather, especially later in the day. By Friday this low will be exiting and high pressure approaching, spelling improvement. High pressure brings dry weather this weekend but some cloudiness may roll through the region on Saturday as it starts to warm up aloft rather quickly. By next Monday, we may find ourselves in a similar set up to what tomorrow will hold.

  1. Tk I need to apply grub ex and it needs to be activated by water. Is Tuesday night or Wednesday night my best night to put it down .

    1. Tuesday night. We have 2 decent shots at getting wet right after that. Overnight Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, and again Thursday afternoon.

  2. So quick question since it’s quiet. So I go onto the patriot ledger web site daily to read the local news some days multiple times. So now they just came up with if you don’t have a subscription to the paper you can only go on there site 15 times a day than your shut off. If you want unlimited acess they want to charge $9.95 a month. I was a subscriber and just cancelled because the service sucked . How can one charge sombody a fee to read a public paper online , I can see a magazine but news outlet. I’m going to contact them tomorrow and if I do not get anywhere with them I am going to contact the atourney general. Any thoughts .

    1. My guess ……Newspapers are suffering because everyone wants things online. They still have the overhead and can’t give for free online what they pay to produce.

  3. Thanks TK. I laughed when I read Junes tune is one of lingering volatility. That could well apply to those born in june. I think I have a lot of lingering volatility.

  4. Thanks TK.

That must be, or have been, a decent storm southeast of Nantucket because the swells rolling into shore are very impressive. As far as height, they are moderate, perhaps 5-6 ft tall. But, they are rather thick ! I think that rough surf advisory is a smart idea and I dont think I’d have ventured into these waves today. We were seeing splashover with not that big of a high tide.

            1. He was transported to the Brigham Sunday. They can’t figure out why his legs womt support him. They’ll do another MRI and ct today and maybe then surgery to shore up the spine. Thanks North !!

              1. Like Acemaster said, we are all pulling for you. Stay strong and we are here if you ever need anything or just want to vent!

  5. Early hour, sunny June mornings are the best.

It was bright at around 4:45 am and when I drove to work at 6:30am, the sun was already a decent height above the horizon.

    1. I was sitting on deck enjoying the sunrise. I love early mornings when we can be outside

  6. That storm SE of Nantucket ……

I wonder how much longer it can remain cold core.

Its been out there for days ….

It looks like it has convection around it this morning. Could it transition towards warm core if its out there much longer ?

    1. John,

It surely is a wonderful morning.

As I exiting my car this morning to walk into the office, I couldn’t help but
notice that our old friend, the EAST wind was back. Yup 8AM and the wind
is EAST at Boston already. 😀

      1. I just don’t get this with a cold front approaching from the West????? Must be that Large storm SE of Nantucket.
It keeps influencing coastal areas and doesn’t seem to want
to allow a West or SouthWest wind to prevail???

        I dunno.

At least it is a light East Wind with a WARM air mass in place.
Makes the sea breeze reasonable instead of bitingly COLD. 😀

  7. Vicki, I hope Mac gets well soon! I saw earlier he was having some issues over the weekend. We’re all pulling for you! Stay strong 🙂

  8. I’m noticing Weei trying to compete with the sportshub, there clearly getting ready for football season with XPatriot Christian Furria on there now, there smart cause there ratings were tanking

  9. Thank you to everyone for your well wishes and positive thoughts. It helps an awful lot to know you are all here and to come share some of my lingering volatility 🙂

What a day. Not a cloud in the sky. Umbrella went up on the deck and windows are on my list to remove from the porch.

    1. Vicki – Hope Mac is feeling better soon. My husband has been having an ongoing attack of kidney stones (he has had them before – this attack is taking longer this time). It doesn’t compare to what you have been going through so I haven’t wanted to complain.

      1. Thank you, rainshine. I know first hand how nasty those kidney stones can be. Are they doing anything to help or just waiting to see if they vacate on their own? I hope they are gone SOON

      2. Loads of fun. I’ve had several bouts of that.

Eventually, I always was able to “pass” them.

Aside from the pain, the bleeding is the real scary part.

        1. Marc has had some pain but has been passing them for several days – no bleeding. If they keep coming he will have to call his dr. Then I am guessing they will give him a cat-scan to find out what’s going on. Always something!

          1. Indeed. Last time I ended up needing a
Cystoscopy and then some special x-rays with dye.

Luckily, all was well. May your hubby have the same outcome.

  10. That EAST wind at Logan is persistent.

69 there at 1PM. At least low to mid 70s here at the office. 80+ inland.

    Really nice out here.

  11. Albany, NY coming in at 88F.

Western MA is in the low-mid 80s.

Logan, 71F, with a seabreeze ….. not bad at all.

I havent been outside since 7am this morning and wont be until around 3:30pm (meetings ….. 🙁 ) I see the dewpoints are in the mid 50s, some approaching 60F. Does it feel muggy out ?

  12. Thanks, TK.

Today and yesterday – A+ days! However, that East wind, as OS said earlier had been coming up at times. The sun is very hot and some of the mets yesterday said it might be a bit more humid today. I don’t notice much humidity. So, the next few days will be wet and the coming wknd. looks good – but will there be an E wind during the wknd.? Oh, well. It is still spring. I am sure at some point the HHH will come and most (or some) of us will complain. I don’t know – I just try to appreciate the weather as it is. We don’t have a choice anyway! 🙂

  13. 2 time going into my pool, about 5 days ago, my brothers and I decided to be goofs and tried to go in, then of all people, someone that does not go in the pool until its like 75 degrees or warmer than that. never in the ocean. we were about to go back indoors,
    Mom. already coming in…. wusses
Me. You should not be talking, you do not go in the pool unless the water is 75 degrees or warmer.
    …..
3 minutes later she had a tower and her suit she went in.
chris+Ben and I looked at each other.
    dad shakes head
chris, ben and I all eventually got in.
temperatures of the water. 58 degrees
Today. put of solar cover. temperature 71 degrees,… been in the pool for 2 hours. 🙂
mom now won’t go in it.

  14. Winds have gone on shore now even inland. Wind is SE at Blue Hill and Norwood.
Temperatures are responding downward. Logan back down to 69.

    1. That EAST wind is really blowing out there. 😀

      Water Temperature: 56.1 °F (13.4 °C)

  15. It turned out to be a hot day in far western Mass and eastern NY State. I think I saw at least three 88F temps, even Burlington VT was in the mid-upper 80s. I’m guessing someone touched 90F.

    1. Bye bye sea breeze, now coastal locales can get in on the weather 40 miles inlands been having the last month 🙂

      1. Sea breezes can occur year round. It depends on the difference between the land and water temperature and local weather. There is no “bye bye”. Boston’s water temp may be nearing 60, but with high temps closer to 80, if conditions are right, we still see about a 10 to 20 degree difference between the coast and inland on strong sea breeze days (and potential significant drops on the coast when the sea breeze sets in).

Also, as far as the coast is concerned, Boston’s temp was above normal for May. It wasn’t just mild inland.

        1. Yup, however, maybe, just maybe we can say good-bye
to the ever persistent East wind and only occasionally have a sea breeze. Maybe, huh? Maybe??????

          1. We’re heading that way. But there’s a reason I have not jumped on board yet with some of those recent model forecasts of more persistent warmth.

It’s not ready to let go just yet.

  16. Yeah I was a bit puzzled by the “more humid” forecast for eastern MA today. Yes, the dewpoint is higher than it was yesterday but it’s sitting in the mid 50s at best. That’s not going to feel humid.

    1. We will have some rain tomorrow morning but it now looks like a more widespread moderate to heavy rain on Thursday.

        1. That should still be fine. I think we do get some fairly widespread showers tomorrow morning anyway.

  17. Felt a bit more humid today, could see lots of haze on the horizon, unless that was pollen

  18. sky is starting to darken up out here.

Just turned the garden over so maybe a good rain will be good.

Haven’t planted yet. Figure it’s not safe till July 4th this year. Think I’ll wait.

  19. Sun set behind the storms in western MA. They will never make it here in any shape resembling what they were.

The sea breeze cell has collapsed. Wind went from SE 10-15 MPH here to light variable and the temp went up a tad.

    1. Tk do you know around the high temp tomorrow. I did not catch any news today. Just wondering if a polo will be warm enough.

        1. Thanks tk. Sure hope your call is right with rain in the morning as I’m concerned with the dogs.

          1. John, when I first read this for some reason I thought you were referring to the cliche “it’s raining cats and dogs” and I assumed that you were talking about your concern about the raining dogs more specifically (rather than the cats). This gave me a good laugh even though I am sure this was not your intention. 😉

  20. International Space Station passing directly overhead from from southwest to northeast 9:54 to 9:59PM. Storm clouds are holding to the west so the view should be very good!

  21. 1. LOVE your title
    2. LOVED the sun and warmth and the breeze today (so did my cats)
    3. This is probably my favorite temperature

  22. TK. I head early thurs to Brigham. Mac will have surgery at some point in am. Is there a concern for heavy rain which will make the commute longer? Thanks.

      1. Seems like most rain will be in the am and will be raining pretty good during that time. May want to allow a little extra time. Tons of prayers being sent Mac’s way. He is in good hands over there.

    1. Plan for rain, allow extra time, and be safe.
We will all be thinking of you and Mac!!!

  23. Blog will be updated this afternoon!

    No big changes.

    Few more showers around today.
    Wet tomorrow.
    Improving Friday.
    Great weekend!

  24. Ace – is your wedding on Friday? And you must be in full swing now. It is an incredibly special time. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!! When do you leave for Abruzzi?

    1. Hi Vicki! Yes the wedding is Friday and we’re both running around like crazy trying to get everything done. Its all the silly little things to get done now. We’re both wicked excited! Nervous about the weather but its looking like it will be OK for Friday afternoon. We leave for Italy Sunday for 2 weeks and i hope the weather is good there too, cant wait! 🙂

      1. I remember those last few days. Is most of the Italian family here or do you still have arrivals. I think I told you Mac and family visited Abruzzi often and loved the area. We have some lovely Abruzzi spreads and a couple of throw rugs. I’ll be hoping for perfect weather and a perfect wedding and honeymoon.

        1. She has 2 family members from Italy here for the wedding, the rest unfortunately couldn’t make the trip, but we will be seeing them the last 3 days of the honeymoon.

  25. Picked up just a trace of rain here, mostly cloudy though I see a few sunny breaks 🙂

  26. Just had a very small localized heavy downpour in Walpole. Light rainfall earlier this morning as well. More than a trace but nothing substantial.

      1. If i had to guess without any official measuring, id say we received around 0.2” this morning.

  27. 56.5 with a 55 DP and very overcast. We had .25 inch of rain mostly at the 3 am hour. It was a bit heavy at first but then turned to a nice gentle rain.

  28. And Welcome to the ongoing performance of CRAPFEST!!!

Well at least we have been rewarded with a couple of nice days in between
    performances. 😆

So far this upcoming weekend looks to be a SOLID 10!!!
Let’s hope it stays that way.

  29. Hey Ace, best of luck with the wedding and may you live happily ever after!

If it means anything at all, my wife and I have been married for 43+ years!

  30. stupid clouds are back…..
still in the 50s when by this time yesterday was in the mid 60s
tomorrow afternoon into evening looks like a wash out. but at least the weekend looks nice with sunshine and temps in the upper 70s to low 80s 🙂

  31. Thanks for the well wishes! For those of u who are on facebook there will be plenty of pictures to see!
