  1. Thanks, TK. I was hoping the rain would clear up for an improving afternoon. We spent the night on a mooring at Rowe’s Wharf, and need to take down the genoa and bring the boat to East Boston for hauling next week. It’s sad that the season is over.

  2. Thanks TK. Hope you’re feeling better.

Dare I say we’re getting our PRE after all? The short range guidance is impressive, especially for eastern/southeastern areas.

  3. I’m having my doubts. Looking wetter and wetter.

Matthew did not get captured and pulled south. It’s just drifting ENE so the moisture source is closer.

  4. Good morning and thank you. I must have missed something as I was not
in here much this weekend. Sorry you were ill TK. Hope you and Mom are feeling
    much better.

    Sure is raining here.

0.46 inch so far and still counting.

Sure looks like moisture from Matthew.

  5. Now the big question is: Will the Sox get their game in. Right now it looks a bit
dubious as this looks to hang around for a while. We shall see.

HRRR says the Rain in Boston does NOT stop until about 2 AM tomorrow or so.

1.04 inches for Boston. Let’s see how that changes hour to hour.

  6. This is the way it looked to me on radar yesterday afternoon . I just couldn’t see how it would go straight east. Looked to me like it would do just what its doing now. Heaviest rain looks to stay off shore, but the south coast, cape and islands could get some decent rain into the evening.

      1. Yes, he did. One of the few times I checked in, I did see
that he posted that. I concur, Good call.

Did you get your weather station set up?

  7. Widespread 1-2 inch amounts from northwest to southeast as we tap into moisture from post-tropical cyclone Matthew. These amounts should not apply much northwest of 495 and the route 2 corridor. The trees, plants, flowers and grass will be happy.

    1. I thought you were going to pull it off. The kids won’t care as they will have fun. Now the parents? Different story I’m afraid. You’ll do fine. Enjoy and peek
in on the Pats when you can. 😀

  8. From NWS

    Otherwise, noting dry air
slowly entraining into the region which should gradually erode
this band from NW to SE through the afternoon hours.

Really? I don’t think it stops this afternoon. We shall see.

    1. Depends on how fast that front starts moving. That heavy stuff off the coast of Virginia to Delaware never gets in here. But, there’s a lot of moisture caught up in that frontal bounty that’s just training in here. I don’t see a lot of dry air moving in here just yet.
FWIW, I’ve had 0.42″ since midnight, with a steadier rain since about dawn. If it keeps up at this same pace for 4-5 more hours, I could see an inch. But out here it’s a little lighter and we are close to be back edge of the precipitation.

      1. Yup. 0.58 inch here so far.

Even if it were to stop now, that is a bonus.

I actually hope it stops by 2PM or so for the Sox game.

  9. The quizzes lately have been bad news at AccuWeather. However, I’ll post a couple of them.

    1) The fear of rain or being rained on is called …

    A. Soakophobia
    B. Brontophobia
    C. Cryophobia
    D. Ombrophobia

    2. Which of the following is KEY in growing giant pumpkins?

    A. Rain at night
    B. Full exposure to sunshine
    C. 80 degree temps by day
    D. All of the above

    Answers later today.

  10. Yeah my forecast above sucks. I made it half awake and still not feeling well. Going to fix that.

  11. Watching the radar closely. In the last several frames the precipitation
suddenly became much lighter out around Leominster and points N & W.

    1. Indeed. You can see the dry air moving in especially through CT. Rain should shut off in time for the game. My guess is between 2-4 from northwest to southeast.

  12. And TK. You have pointed out on several occasions even many moons ago that we’ll need to watch for moisture from Matthew to connect with SNE so you weren’t far off.

    1. Turns out the forecast that I made when I was reasonably confident for the first time, before the issue of the possible loop came into play, is panning out.

I’d have looked like a crazy person leaving it, until now. 😛

    1. The dry air would be winning more if it has just been the front itself coming through with Matthew having taken that turn more to the south. Now that this turn is not taking place, the moisture from the former ‘cane is coming northward up against the front enough to make the rain area more dense and much longer lasting here.

Beneficial, except for the Sox game. 😛

    1. Yes I’d like to see the Sox win the first game of the 3 in a row they are about to win today. 😉

      1. I’ll make a guess now. NO Game today, HOWEVER, the Sox
will listen to some Dumb-ass met who will tell them it will stop
and they will keep the park full, selling concessions for hours before finally cancelling the game about 6 or 7PM.

        1. That dumb-ass met is the company that TK and I used to work for. Trust me, “dumb ass” is EXACTLY the right term.

As for the forecast, as I said to TK on IM a few minutes ago, just like him, my initial forecast from 10 days ago ending up verifying….Matthew stays WELL south, and we get a PRE anyways, at least here in SE Mass. Unbelievable.

0.71″ so far here at the Storm HQ World Headquarters in Brockton.

          1. I was thinking the SAME thing when I replied to him. Thanks for finishing my thought off. I was just too lazy to type it. 😛

  13. Thanks TK. I think the rain continues into the late afternoon/early evening. Not enough push of the front and also with tropical systems/moisture involved that usually doesn’t move out as fast and tends to slow cold fronts.

  14. The latest models all say rain ends somewhere in the time frame of 2AM to 5AM
tomorrow Morning, including 12Z GFS, 12Z RAP, 12Z NAm, 12Z 4KM NAM and the latest 15Z HRRR. Sure looks like No Red Sox Game today.

  15. Is that a deformation zone setting up along I 95? Looks as if bands are coming from the west and the south-southeast and converging southwest of Boston.

  16. I thought it was from the dry air approaching from the northwest and wrapping around the western flank of Matthew while the LLJ approaches from the south. Nevertheless, enhanced rainfall is occurring in eastern MA:)

  17. Brady! Brady! Brady! What a difference a QB makes!

    Defense sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

0.98 inch here. Back to game!

  18. Gronk was never hurt that bad. They just didn’t want to put him out there with a sub par QB. He looked good on that 1st drive.
Let’s seee if the D pulls ther head out of their backside and make some stops.

    1. I’d say those sub par QBs did ok without him….for being sub par that is. 😉

      And I have a term for snarky that I have decided I prefer….playful 😈

        1. Gronk’s bread and butter is over the middle stuff. Those are hard routes to throw. Brissett couldn’t throw that as we now know his thumb needed surgery. If Jimmy G could have gone last week, Gronk might have been in the game plan more.

  19. You can believe as you like…which of course you should….but Mac (who never raised his voice) would yell at Brady when he attempted to make those long passes. His completion rate was not great…..and two in one game??? Me thinks an angel is helping with their carry 😉

    1. They have a receiver that can make that play work. They haven’t had a guy that can run a go route deep like that since Moss.

      1. Maybe. Maybe not. As you know they may have a receiver but Brady has never thrown a good ball deep….I’ll stick with Mac. 🙂

        1. Oh I’ll agree with you there too. Brady’s deep ball isn’t his strong suit. That’s why he needs a really good over the top receiver to make up for his defenciency throwing the deep ball.

  20. This game should be like 50-7. Brady looks good. The missed execution all around is brutal though. Lucky we’re playing Cleveland.

  21. Unfortunate that the Sox game was called off. Back edge is moving swiftly eastward. Rain should shut off by 5 pm in Boston.

  22. Yes, I was about to post about the back edge. It may get hung up though, keeping
the rain going in Eastern Sections. We shall see.

    re: Pat’s

Brady looks fantastic. Defense came around, of course it was against a 4th string QB, so who knows.

I agree with going for the TD on 4th. I was upset with the 3 straight run attempts.

I think our kicker is going through a bit of a slump. Hopefully, he’ll come around.
He’s too GOOD to keep this up.

    1. Latest HRRR shows that back edge verifying, however, it does slow and it keeps
rain in Boston until 1 or 2 AM.

    2. Agree re Gotskowski (sp?). There was never a time I blinked when he was on the field. Of late, he seems to be struggling a bit….although that was 50 yards

  23. 1.09 inches here so far and still counting. Largest single rain event since I obtained the rain gauge in early August.

  24. Had the Red Sox focused more on home field after clinching, they probably would have been playing today on a beautiful day in Cleveland at no worse tied 1-1. I do have a good feeling in Buccholz stopping the skid. Thereafter, who knows? Does E-Rod pitch game 4?

    1. It’s one guy Philip. I honesty believe the sox don’t win this series . Do they win next game at Fenway , yes I think they do win . Did you watch any of the last game at all it was so——- bad!!!!

    2. Ain’t that pathetic when we are actually counting on Buchholz to bail the Red Sox out? If Mr. Price wasn’t so mentally fragile, we may have a fighting chance if it were to come down to a game 5.

  25. The Pats are going to get a real workout with BB this week. I can’t believe he’ll be happy with this performance. It’s not a nature.

  26. Sweet win by the Pats. No rust on Brady, that’s for sure.

I’m really liking Martellus Bennett. Nice pick up there.

re: Rain 1.32 inches here and coming down pretty good.

    1. Bennett & Gronk – Deadly.

And Hogan an apparent deep threat.

Stay Healthy and Brady will have a fifth for that Shields MRI commercial.

      1. Healthy is key.
Double tight ends, both of whom are threats is awesome.

Hogan is no fluke. He keep delivering.

        Love it!!

On thing pisses me off! Too damn many runs for no gain. What a waste and a drive buster!

    2. They looked good, but the Browns are probably the worst team in pro football. Brady looks great, but will have to wait and see him play against a real NFL defense.

    1. Does NOT look correct to me.
It had Brighton down for over an inch as of 7 AM this morning.
NO WAY! so the whole damn this is out of whack if you ask me.

  27. A “take care of business” type win for the Pats. I wasn’t thrilled with their performance on the whole, and I think against almost any other team this would’ve been a much closer game. Still, one question mark that was emphatically resolved was Brady. No rust, no signs he’s lost a step at all. I believe in Gostkowski too; kickers have slumps, and he’s in one now. Better now than later though.

1.42″ of rain so far in Wrentham today, where I’m home for the weekend. A genuine drought-denter. Problem is, after today, looks like a return of the summer pattern for at least the next couple weeks. Warm and dry. Perhaps very warm, and very dry.

  28. TK, hope you and your Mom are feeling better.

    This was a tough forecast.

All in all, grateful for the beneficial rain. I can’t remember the last full day of soaking rain. Perhaps there was a day back in the spring, but I don’t believe so.

Sox rain-out may indeed be a blessing in disguise. We may see Porcello tomorrow night. Who knows?

Don’t think I can stomach the debate tonight. We Americans really know how to pick great candidates to choose from … Not! I’ll vote for HC, but it’s not at all because I think she’s a good choice. If we throw Gary Johnson into the mix our election choices are a version of the three stooges. Johnson wasted himself so much on pot that he can’t name a single foreign leader he likes (nor did he know what Aleppo was). Hillary is as transparent as a cup of the darkest espresso. And DJT is a certified wacko. God help this country.

    1. We survived the likes of James Buchanan, Millard Fillmore, Grants scandals, feckless Woodrow Wilson, Nixon’s paranoia, etc etc. we’ll survive this. What makes the govt work despite messes here and there are 3 branches of govt with checks and balances. We’ll be fine.
But I agreee with your assessment. No transparency and I’ll add crook,, a whacko, and a guy who’s stoned with a VP candidate with a taste for the amber liquid.

    2. Highly doubt they will throw Porcello on three days rest. If they win, however, he will definitely pitch Tuesday.

  29. 1.44″ here in Taunton. Add in last weekend’s total and we have had nearly 3.5″ in a week!

  30. Looks likes the south coast from say Fall River/New Bedford down thru the south shore and cape could get into done of the heavier bands as the storm moves out into the GOM and maritimes

  31. Blount did not look like he did during the first four games….. Its either that he feels he does not need to worry of stinking up the joint because of brady, or he is not set up to succeed with brady

    1. If by your second idea you mean he is not suited to a Brady-led offense, I agree. The Patriots under the command of Brady are a precision offense, they rely on speed and finesse. Blount is a power runner. He doesn’t fit. White and Foster both looked much more capable in their limited roles today. It’s another reason I desperately wish we had a healthy Dion Lewis back. I hope the Pats realize the problem with Blount before it really bites them.

Blount looked semi-good the first few weeks because the offense was centered around him. For a few weeks after Jimmy G went out, they became an offense more built on power and time of possession, to limited success. That’s not their real identity though, especially not with Brady back.

  32. Answers to AccuWeather quizzes.

    1) The fear of rain or being rained on is called …

    A. Soakophobia
    B. Brontophobia
    C. Cryophobia
    D. Ombrophobia

    The answer is D.

    2. Which of the following is KEY in growing giant pumpkins?

    A. Rain at night
    B. Full exposure to sunshine
    C. 80 degree temps by day
    D. All of the above

The answer is C, but it seems like a weird answer.

  33. The rain is coming down the back stretch, but still raining here.
    Total so far: 1.65 inches
Not too shabby at all. I”l happily take that. Far more than I ever expected.

  34. There’s always a 4th choice in this election: Jill Stein, if you’re a more left-wing person. A vote for her doesn’t really help Trump in MA, since the Democrats are guaranteed to win this state. Pretty much every New England state, actually.

  35. Bostblitz: You are right that Jill Stein is a 4th candidate. She can be articulate. But, I find her views `out there,’ especially given that she is a doctor. I believe there should be more parties with influence in the U.S., with a more proportionate style of representation (rather than winner takes all, which virtually guarantees a two-party system). Green and libertarian parties are alternatives. I just think their representatives aren’t appealing. Maybe I’m being too harsh.

  36. Total rainfall at the Storm HQ World Headquarters in Brockton ended up at 2.17″ from this storm. Still quite windy outside. My Weekly Outlook tonight should be a fairly easy one – looks like we’re right back into a dry pattern.

    1. Nice . I’m not in Sutton tonight but Wunder says 1.21 there which seems about right. Wind has been on and off gusty all afternoon. Sadly, a dry pattern will just undo the good. It seems to be the pattern…rain that would help if it were repeated in a shorter time frame
