Break’s About Over

3:41PM

A cool evening is about all we have left of the break in the developing warm July pattern. This pattern is also trending drier with this trend likely to continue during the next week to 10 days. I still don’t see any prolonged major heat, but 80s to around 90 will be common. First, we have had a cooler day today, behind a departing low pressure system, and one little last spoke of energy moving around it may produce a few isolated showers through this evening, though most places will be dry. The only other rain threat I see right now is a chance of a few showers and thunderstorms accompanying a passing disturbance early next week.

The forecast for the Boston area…

TONIGHT: Partly cloudy before midnight with a slight chance of isolated showers moving north to south across portions of Essex, Middlesex, Suffolk, and northern Plymouth counties. Mostly clear after midnight with patches valley, swamp, and bog fog possible. Cool and dry. Low ranging from the lower 50s inland valleys to near 60 along the coast. Wind NE diminishing to under 10 MPH near the coast and nearly calm inland.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny in the morning. Becoming partly cloudy during the afternoon. Warm and dry. High 80 to 85 except holding in the 70s at the shore. Wind N up to 10 MPH shifting to E.

FRIDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Mild and dry. Low 62 to 67. Wind SW under 10 MPH.

SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Warm and moderately humid. High 84 to 89. Wind SW up to 10 MPH.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Mild and moderately humid. Low 63 to 68. Wind SW under 10 MPH.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Hot and increasingly humid. High 86 to 91. Wind SW 5 to 15 MPH.

MONDAY: Partly cloudy. Isolated showers and thunderstorms. Low 71. High 89.

TUESDAY: Sunny. Low 69. High 88.

WEDNESDAY: Sunny. Low 66. High 87.

THURSDAY: Sunny. Low 66. High 86.

  2. Tomorrow is looking just as nice as today.
As long as the dew point is kept below 67, then I’m fine with the upcoming pattern.

        1. Hi Vicki.

One way is through Taunton NWS….on the left side of the site, they have a CLIMATE section, click LOCAL, it should default to Logan (Boston) and then pick Preliminary Monthly Climate Data, hit Archived Data, pick the month(s) you want and hit GO……..With this said, I’m sure there is an easier way.

  3. With the NE wind and very dry air, I dont think Marshfield made it to 70F. In the shade, the air was almost comparatively crisp, but the mid July sun didnt fully allow the senses to think autumn. Knowing that more mid summer warmth is still to come, today’s weather was a nice change !

      1. Yes, and in winter, the reverse. After the Cape, I’d swear its the first town above 32F with snow changing to rain. 🙂

  4. A couple things about clouds… I think the immediate Boston area and suburbs to the W & N may lose the sun at least partially before sunset as there are a couple large stratocumulus areas moving southward, associated with that last piece of energy coming through this evening.

Also, tomorrow, watch for another cumulus field to pop up along the coastal plain and for some distance inland during the late morning & midday hours, then push back to the west as the seabreeze sets in, similar to today, though most of the cumulus should not be as vertical and dark based as some of the ones we saw today. There still could be a few crisp moderate cumulus with grey bases.

  5. Went to the water wiz water park in wareham today- had fun but when that sun went in it sure was cool. Three days left to have fun, and than back to the grind. Also if anybody knows of some fun things to do on the cape I would love to hear. My son is 7.

  6. Dew Points in some places in SNE in the 40s today which is a real treat in the summer months. This nice weather continues before the humidity starts to build during the weekend. A way to know if the day is going to be humid look at the overnight lows the lower the number the drier the air. When the lows are mid 60s and higher the day is going to be on the sticky side.
Thunderstorm Index is at a 0 for the next few days since there won’t be any thunderstorms. That could change on Monday with our next cold front but plenty of time to watch that.

  7. Now I am curious about something…what are the most 90 degree days for Boston?

I do know that Boston’s longest heat wave (90+) is 9 days from July 3-11, 1912.
