Monday Forecast

7:43AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 1-5)
A warm front struggles across the region today from southwest to northeast, setting up a contrast in temperature. This will be followed by a cold front west to east tonight when a greater chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm will occur. This exits early Tuesday, which ends up warmer due to a westerly wind. High pressure builds in with fair and cooler weather Wednesday. Low pressure approaches Thursday and brings a solid chance of wet weather by Thursday night and Friday.
TODAY: Mainly cloudy but sunny breaks possible later in the day especially Boston area west and south. Highs 48-56 immediate coast, 57-66 most other areas but may reach 67-72 interior areas west and southwest of Boston late. Wind light variable eventually becoming S.
TONIGHT: Mainly cloudy. Showers and a chance of thunderstorms mainly after 10PM from west to east. Temperatures rise in northeastern areas and only fall slightly to the southwest then remain steady 55-63 overnight. Wind S to SW 10-20 MPH shifting to W.
TUESDAY: Mainly cloudy with a few lingering showers early then partly to mostly sunny. Highs 66-75, coolest Cape Cod. Wind W 10-20 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows 45-53. Highs 58-66.
THURSDAY: Increasing clouds. Rain at night. Lows 45-53. Highs 60-68.
FRIDAY: Overcast. Periods of rain. Lows 45-53. Highs 53-60.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 6-10)
Unsettled weather at times, especially first half of the period. Temperatures near to below normal.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 11-15)
A period of drier and warmer weather is possible.

    1. Thanks, MassBay. There are a lot of messages in that song. He was a wonderful artist and another lost too soon.

I have to begin studying the horses for daughter’s annual Derby party.

Sure is quiet here for morning.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

    I hate Mondays)(@#&!*&@#*&!@*#&!*@&*&*&!@*&*@&#&!*&#

A tad bit of drizzle as I exited my vehicle this morning. Typical miserable Boston
    Spring Weather.

What’s all this talk about May 9th? I haven’t looked at a model in days.

    1. I wonder if the rain early in the spring might have helped that fungus take hold better than the past couple years. My crabapple tree is now in full bloom. Past 2 years it didn’t even get the chance to bloom before it was eaten alive. Fingers crossed for this year but I still plan on taking preventative measures and applying plastic wrap to the trunk and spreading some petrolium jelly all over it.

    2. If you see their egg pods attached to the trunks of the trees, destroy them by any means necessary before they all hatch

  2. I think the radar will light up like a Christmas tree later parts of NY State and PA where there warm sectored.

  3. Thanks, TK.

Been following the forecasts on various local channels and have noticed a `bias’ in NECN’s forecast: A tendency to forecast significantly higher maximum temperatures than the other channels. And often by a wide margin (Boston is supposed to get to 67F, according to NECN’s Sunday evening forecast, while WBZ pegged Boston at 53F for a high today). This has been happening for quite some time now. I’m wondering why they’re not adjusting, because they’ve often been incorrect.

          1. Lucky you 😀

Not even close here. Not only that, there has been a very very light drizzle ongoing as well.

Feels like a refrigerator out there.

  4. Looks like a second tornado watch will be issued soon and pretty far north for the time of year.

  5. JPDave I was reading the text of the tornado watch and the primary threats part where it says a few tornadoes and a couple intense tornadoes possible.
Usually in the northeast when a tornado a tornado watch is issued it will say in the text few tornadoes possible but rarely do you see couple intense tornadoes possible.

  6. First tornado warnings of the day for western parts of PA which is part of that line of storms moving in. I have not noticed any individual super cells yet.

      1. Today is a prime example of the MISERABLE Spring weather I DETEST! MISERABLE.

Here is where TK comes in and says that he loves this weather and that he loves all weather. Good for him. I don’t. 😀

        1. I see TK is busy. I will take the opportunity to say I love this weather. I love all weather. I figure it is Mother Nature’s gift to me so appreciate it I will. But if you think about it, I spent the day happy so it is win win.

          1. I’m happy you are happy, but sad to say, it doesn’t make me feel any better. I have NEVER liked this weather since I was a little kid. NEVER. I Have always hated it and complained about it. Always.

That being said, I can go home in a little bit and that makes things better. 😀

  8. JP Dave, We will be rewarded as we almost always are with many glorious summer and autumn days. I still marvel at how consistently nice it generally is in September and October (and even early November) in Boston.

    1. True that.

Even most Summers, once we get through June. June can go either way.
It can be beautiful or Keep the misery going.

      1. I won’t 🙂 🙂

I understand how he feels. I’m not a big fan of the weather he describes either. But, I’ll persevere through it to hopefully transition to a nice Memorial Day weekend and consistent summer warmth from the mid June to late August.

  9. This is wild …… From mt Washington auto road ….

    It’s 39.3F at 2,300 ft, but …… 62.1F at 4,000 ft !!!!! and a very mild 50.2F at the sunmit, 6,288 ft.

    1. Lower atmospheric profile associated with, in this case, a warm front.

  10. Severe Thunderstorm Watch right up to the western boarder of MA and CT. I agree with that as those storms once they reach western MA and CT will be in a weakened form.
I was surprised with the first update this morning from SPC having a good chunk of SNE in the slight risk. They finally in my opinion got it right placing all of SNE in general thunderstorm category which is what they had yesterday.

  11. Had a few thunderboomers here in Taunton between 4:45-5:30. Moderate rain.

Temps climbing…up to 50.5 right now with 0.40 in the AcuRite gauge.

    Enjoy your Tuesday!

  12. Very short update posted!
Will add to it later via edit and comments…
