Tuesday Forecast

7:32AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 9-13)
Upper level low pressure will continue dominate the weather during the next few days. Again though we will be given examples of how periods of nicer weather can also take place during this time, this morning being one of them with some sunshine before clouds dominate. We may also see a little more sunshine Wednesday and perhaps Friday, with Thursday being the “least fair” day of this stretch. Confidence drops for Saturday due to uncertainty on development and movement of a possible coastal storm, but going with a drier forecast for now in between systems as the current upper low moves out and another one approaches.
TODAY: Partly sunny to mostly cloudy. Scattered showers this afternoon. Highs 54-61. Wind light SW to S becoming variable, with sea breezes developing.
TONIGHT: Variably cloudy. Isolated showers early. Lows 37-44. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Partly sunny. Isolated showers mainly afternoon. Highs 56-63. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. Scattered to general showers mainly PM. Lows 40-47. Highs 56-63.
FRIDAY: Variably cloudy. Isolated to scattered showers mainly AM. Lows 40-47. Highs 56-63.
SATURDAY: Partly sunny. Lows 42-49. Highs 58-65.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 14-18)
Another upper low may bring a rain risk May 14 into May 15 which could even end as a mix in some areas on May 15. The remainder of the period should be similar to the weather we are currently experiencing as upper level low pressure lingers over the region.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 19-23)
Still looking at a possible transition to dry and warmer weather during this period.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

    Another BEAUTIFUL morning!!

Started out at 35.5 at my house in JP, but was up to 48 by 8AM and 50 by the time
    I reached the office.

Did someone ask about the commute? BRUTAL today! Brutal!

But I must admit, most days are just fine for me.

    re: Mother’s Day Weekend
IF and I do say IF, one believes the GFS, we are in for a SOAKER on Sat spilling over
into Sunday. However, I took a brief look at the Euro via mobile while waiting in line at the post office this morning and it looks similar.

It’s only Tuesday, so things can change, but I don’t like the looks of it right now>
If it’s going to be a soaker, please let it come Saturday and not Sunday.
I’m taking the whole family out to dinner Sunday for Mother’s Day.

  2. Thanks TK
The last big rain maker on Mother’s Day was 14 years ago. That particularly rain maker caused flooding in parts of MA. Leading up to that it was quite wet that week.

  3. If this was only during winter what the 6z GFS was showing this would be a different story.

  4. When I got home from work at 4am, it was 31.1 here at the StormHQ World Headquarters Compound, with the moon and stars still visible through some high clouds. We bottomed out at 30.4. I had to actually turn the heat on when I got home, as it was down to 63 inside.

Looks like this pattern finally breaks next week, and that’s fine by me. My summer concert season starts next Friday. That night I’ll be heading to Foxboro to worship at the altar of the almighty Metallica. This will be my 8th time seeing them (3rd in Foxboro), but 1st time in 20 years. The rest of my summer concert plans look like an episode of Headbangers Ball from 1988:

    Metallica (in Foxboro)
    Boston (at the Garden)
    Iron Maiden (at Great Woods)
Dropkick Muprhys (at the Brockton Fairgrounds)
    Guns n Roses (in Montreal)

Somehow, I have a hunch, that I’ll be adding to this list before summer is over.

    1. I like 3 out of 5 on your list:

      Boston
      Dropkick Murphys
      Guns N Roses

The other 2 I could take or leave.

IF you ever have a chance, I highly recommend you take in:

      Social Distoration

  5. Thanks, TK.

The perpetually spinning upper level low is really too far from SNE to impact us that much. However, it is having a major impact in Southern Quebec. Major flooding from Montreal to Quebec City and towns in between. This is due to both snow melt and a nearly constant deluge of rain.

  6. I’m just ready for some warmer weather. I don’t need 80. Hell, I’d take some mid 60’s at this point.
I had to turn on the heat this morning. I haven’t since that in May since I’ve been at my present location, 9 years.

      1. Limited engagement. 🙂

Destructive sunshine that’s gone by noon and highs in the low 50’s on May 9th don’t do much for me.

  7. Thanks TK.

Lots of nice tributes to Harvey Leonard this morning, who’s “celebrating” 40 years on TV today. IMO, the best TV met in our market right now, and one of the all time greats. We’re lucky to have a number of good ones around here.

    1. I totally agree WxW on being the best met on on the tv market right now hands down the best no offense to the other tv mets . Wow 40 yrs I’ll be 46 in July . His 40th posted on my FB page this morning and as I wrote to Harvey this morning I said I was a huge fan of his from the south shore .

          1. I agree with you Blackstone. I hope tonight they show Harvey’s forecast for the 1978 blizzard when he was with Ch. 7…a real classic. I remember watching that Saturday eve broadcast well. Glad I was a teen at the time and able to appreciate it.

        1. I agree of course re Eric. I’ve said often that I love the way he takes the time to explain and educate. More than other mets ….even my guy Pete 🙂

  8. It seems that most every year the late spring/early summer pattern around here never begins until Memorial Day weekend.

I already feel bad for all the mothers…hopefully no flood repeat on Sunday.

Mothers deserve the best day weatherwise of the entire year, but instead they end up getting one of the crappiest. 🙁

    1. You are kind, but the best mother’s day for me is to be with my family. Weather cannot take away from that.

I remember mother’s day 2006. We went to Atlantica in Cohasset for brunch. Daughter had reserved the following May for her wedding so we thought we’d all go to see how they handled a crowd. As I recall there had been considerable rain and flooding around the date but I know for sure it was raining heavily on Mother’s Day. Food was great but the roof was leaking and they had buckets everywhere. Needless to say, I had a little chat with them the following week about roof repairs 🙂

    1. I don’t see anything other than coverage on Hernandez which I am sick and tired of. Maybe they want to get a sky view of the court? Truly sad.

      1. Perhaps, but these were not regular news helicopters. These were big boy helicopters and I saw 4 of them in formation traveling up Beacon Street or perhaps Storrow Drive towards the state house or perhaps Logan. Then I saw another larger copter heading in the opposite direction.

  9. Why can’t Boston traffic lights be like this??????

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-Rzn57nASU

I know part of it is the way the streets were laid out, but part of it is
INEPTITUDE on the part of City employees who attempt to synchronize the lights (OR LACK THERE OF)!!

The City was a GD cluster F***!!! Today! grid lock here and grid lock there.
This HAS to be the WORST city on the planet for traffic by FAR!!

Boston traffic SUCKS! Even worse than the Boston Spring weather which sucks in its own right.

    1. Some of it is the TOTAL and COMPLETE lack of construction job coordination.
They just do it with ZERO thought to the traffic disruption! No thought at all.
I wonder what the intellect is of the people responsible? Either they are dumb as rocks or just plain don’t care.

      1. Never been there, so I take your word for it. BUT I am in the city EVERY day and today, perhaps due to trigger boy and too much construction, was the worst I have seen it since one year when the combination of Snow and Ice constricted the roads and caused MASSIVE GRID LOCK. I believe it was late 70s (not 78) OR early 80s. TK would probably remember.

      2. Ii have heard horror stories about LA as well. Again, I have never been there.

Driving through downtown Manhattan is a pleasure compared to Boston and I have done that many many times.

        1. We didn’t mind LA either. But then Mac learned to drive in Rome so I suspect his perspective is a bit different 🙂

We (my mom and I) visited LA in the early 70s. Rudy Vallee was a friend of hers so we got to see it from a whole different side. He took us to a party on the Queen Mary. I never prayed so hard as he drove down the freeway, with three of us in the front seat, at about 80 or better, shaving in the rearview mirror.

      3. Oddly, Mac and I thought SF was awesome. Lights when we were there were well timed and street signs were actually placed well ahead of the intersection. But that was back in the 70s and again in the late 80s.

  10. I would gladly trade the dry times during the week for better weekend weather for graduations and Mother’s Day. But unfortunately can’t control that 🙂

  11. If it’s not too much of a pain can someone post how to post pictures here? One popped up on FB today and I’d love to be able to share the chuckle…

    1. On facebook click on the photo or image.
Then right click on the image and select “open image in new tab”.
You will see another browser open. Place your mouse over the url
(all of the letters and numbers in the box at the top of your screen),
Just click in there and it should turn blue. Now right click and
      select copy.

Now got into WHW and where you want to post, right and right click
and then select post. The link will be in WHW. Say what you want under
or above the link and save the post. Done.

now if you have a personal photo on your computer here is how you can do it:

      Go to http://www.imgur.com
Click on new post and in the option select upload images
Click Browse and go to the folder where the photo or image is.
      Select the desired photo.
The image appears and a new URL appears in the browser box
at the top of your screen.
Click it, it turns blue. Right click and select copy.
Now go to WHW and right click. This time select paste.
Write what you want above or below the link. Save
      Done

Best of luck. Please don’t hesitate to ask any questions. 😀

      1. Thanks so much OS – wish me luck! If anyone else is watching the news right now a little totally unrelated laughter will hopefully be welcome…

      2. Hopefully attached is a photo of my 2016 Mother’s Day card from my 6 year old son given to me at parents’ day at school last year. As you can see he confused “f” for “th” and dropped letter “n”s – or at least that’s what his teacher claimed. He presented it to me in front of his class with a big smile and was so proud of himself. He had worked really hard on it. I was trying so hard not to laugh that he asked me – “Mommy – why are you crying?”

        1. As I never have anything substantive to contribute re: weather I hope this makes you guys smile!

        2. Awesome. Your son loves you so much.

And you did a great job in posting the photo.

          1. It was completely the teacher here as I am absolutely frightened of technology! Thanks again for the clear step by step directions!

    1. Thanks so much.

Hope you don’t mind, but since you post as dr. Stupid, I thought you might get a kick out of this story.

When I was in high school before we had our licenses, a bunch of us worked at a chicken farm (laying hens as they sold eggs). It was Halloween day and the owner gave us each and carton of eggs to throw that night. He then gave us all a ride home. On then he way home, my buddie rooms down then hehe window and takes out an egg to toss out the window. He wound up
And let rip, only he missed the open window right in front him. Instead the egg smashed all over the door frame all over the window.

The owner in his Hungarian allboveccent yelled out: “Who’s the STUPID?”.

It windows hilarious. You had to be there.

  12. I see the sox are their pathetic selves again.
Pom Pom gave up 5 big ones in the 1st inning. What a tool.

    1. He’s actually been one of their best pitchers before tonight. At least he’s giving them innings unlike Price who can’t seem to get out of his own way

  13. Sox aren’t going anywhere this year, JP Dave. They’re more or less a .500 team, I think. Perhaps 84 wins if they’re lucky. Inadequacies up and down the lineup and pitching staff. Yes, they have a core of some good young players, and they have perhaps the best starting pitcher around in Sale. But, gaps abound. The Yankees, on the other hand, look like they’ve got a pitching staff that’s consistent – Sabathia is the exception – and a lineup that may be the best in baseball. For all the criticism of Cashman, his patience has paid off. Plus, I’m a firm believer in the value of a manager in winning a ballclub 10-15 games a year. Girardi outclasses Farrell. Knows the whole game better, not just pitch counts and by-the-book stuff. Adjusts in-game perhaps better than any manager in baseball. I’ve spoken to Girardi several times when he visits town. He goes to a Starbucks close to where I live. I can’t stand the Yankees, but I do respect them. It’s sort of the way people from outside New England should view the Patriots.

    1. Well said. I AGREE RE Farrell the dip shit artist, but I think the sox win more than 84 games. We shall see.

        1. Yes, and TK would be right to say that. It’s early and I could be totally wrong. But, in my assessment of the team before the season started I thought that offense would be a problem (too many players last year had career years, plus they lost Ortiz), and that the Sox pitching staff from starters to relievers just isn’t very good.

      1. You said it for me. The thing to do suddenly in the last several years is be early deciding with everything…

Summer arrives the first time it goes over 60 in February. Suddenly you get a few warm days in the early spring and everyone puts away all the winter clothes, the fans and air conditions are out, and people seem to be standing behind their lawn mowers waiting for the grass to sprout while someone loads the beach stuff into the car.

With our sports teams, 2 games into the season and heaven forbid if they are losses because well then, the season’s over.

And shopping? Forget it. I hope you all are ready because the fall clothes should be out soon and on your way there you can get your pumpkin spice drinks from Dunkin’ Donuts. Hope you had a great summer. It’s football season next week right? Wow, the winter olympics start soon! Go USA!

Whatever happened to living for today?

        1. Ahhhhhh my voice

The Red Sox are, after all, the comeback kids. Enjoy them. Worrying about what they might do simply takes away enjoying them for today……win or lose.

          1. Whatever happened to just enjoying a baseball game without trying to figure out how many wins each pitcher needs to get to propel the team to the world series? I guess it’s fun to do if you’re really into it, but most people just stress out over it. It actually becomes kind of comical for me to observe, so I suppose that type of behavior exists at least partially for my enjoyment. Thanks to those who partake in it for my no-cost entertainment! 😉

Did I mention my snark level is up and probably going to stay there? 😀

            1. I think snarky TK rocks.

I don’t have answers but I think the solution is to smile and nod…..and toss in tons of snark !!!
