Saturday Forecast

1:47AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 5-9)
After things working out as expected on Friday (a warm, humid day, morning and midday showers, storms dying before they made it too far east, and gusty winds surviving the trip) we now move onto the weekend. And we basically have a split of sorts with dry weather but some cloudiness today and a wave of low pressure bringing a general overcast with a risk of some rain on Sunday as it passes by to the southeast. The boundary it rides along will still be fairly close by and cloudiness may even linger Monday before high pressure finally pushes in with more sun for Tuesday and Wednesday.
TODAY: Many clouds but thin enough for some sun. Highs 67-74. Wind W 10-20 MPH with higher gusts early, diminishing slowly.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows 48-55. Wind light SW to S.
SUNDAY: Cloudy. A few periods of rain possible. Highs 58-65. Wind light variable.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows 48-55. Wind light variable.
MONDAY: Variably cloudy. Highs 60-66. Wind light variable.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 60s.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 60s.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 10-14)
A front should pass through the region sometime from later May 10 to May 11 with the risk of some showers, followed by fair weather, a brief cool shot, then a warm-up.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 15-19)
Low confidence forecast, but there is the possibility an omega block develops during this period with low pressure nearby to New England. this would result in a trend toward unsettled weather for a few days with a system that doesn’t move much.

    1. According to TK some time ago, the trend will be drier spring into summer, so I agree. 🙂

  1. According to Dan Roche, Bruins are 0-22 when trailing 3-1.

What happened after game 1 when they looked like world beaters?

      1. We’ve had poor officiating through the playoffs in many series, not just against the Bruins. It’s been bad, but yes the B’s have had several goals against result directly from poor or missed calls.

Still, no excuse for the way the team has performed. I gave them credit for their start against Toronto and their battle back to win game 7 but they have really struggled against Tampa Bay after dominating them in the regular season. But, as they say, it’s not over yet. We can win 3 in a row. We’ve proven it before, now it just has to happen again or it’s “tee time!”

        1. Yes, you are correct. However, it’s a crying shame
when the damn refs dramatically change the outcome
          of the game. Disgraceful!

          1. That 0-22 sticks out like a broken hockey stick in the middle of the ice though. 😉

  2. Thanks TK
Boston got hosed twice in this series when they should have had a power play. Game two and five.

  3. Pet peeve: When people call a series “over” that isn’t over. Want to know when a series is over? When a team is eliminated. Period.

  4. Ever the optimist 🙂
I’m the opposite. Pessimist till the end. I’ve found that a lot of the time things dont go your way. Therefore if you expect it, your not disappointed and let down. If things happen to work out, I’m pleasently my surprised.
Totally opposite way of thinking from an optimist point of view, but it works for me, and I guess for most pessimists as well.
I never could stand to be around a bunch of optimists. Pisses me off actually. I don’t know too may optimists though. I think pessimists trend to gravitate toward each other in life. Maybe optimist do as well, I dunno.

    1. I figure life, as with all else, has ups and downs. I don’t expect anything and, even in the most difficult times, accept what life hands me and be grateful for what I have. It isn’t always easy.

Pessimists don’t piss me off. We are all different. It would be a dull world if we were all the same. It does make me sad that some go through life expecting the worst. I don’t understand how they ever appreciate the best.

I do appreciate your comment. It helps me to understand a bit better.

    2. Well despite being totally opposite, what you said makes sense from that view point. I don’t get the “let down” feeling very easily. And for me it’s become very easy to move on from things that don’t go well. Just my nature I guess.

    3. I totally understand and agree with your statement that if things don’t go our way – then if you expect it, you’re not disappointed. If things work out – pleasant surprise! That’s been going on with us lately.

      1. Exactly. Life is what you make it; and MassBay, Our thoughts certainly form our outlook

I remember as young 20 something that I tended to be moody on occasion. If I was down, everyone knew it from my expression alone. At one of those times, an engineer at the company where I worked asked me what was a simple question but had a lasting impact.

He asked what I thought I was accomplishing with negative feelings.

        1. And that sure doesn’t mean I am never sad. I just don’t let the sadness define me. If I did, Mac would find a way to clobber me 🙂

        2. Wise words which I do not heed very often.

I am almost as negative as blackstone, but not quite
          it appears.

            1. I’m thinking about that. Excellent question. I’m more inclined to think a realist is an optimist.

          1. I don’t think of you as a pessimist OS. I think of you more as a person who enjoys the anticipation as much as the event.

        3. I couldn’t agree more. Thoughts and how you deal with life shapes it. I could have just did what people thought I was going and give up several times, but I didn’t and I am where I am because I fought my way through, I am a perfect example of someone with a disability can accomplish when the right people are around to help, and if you have the drive. The chips on the shoulder are always motivation still to this day. Its even better when some of the people who doubted you and were crappy to ya, got some decent size karma.

          1. You are an excellent example. And you’ve paid it forward with advice several times for me. I hope folks who doubted you learn from you.

  5. Not sure how many of you watch marvel movies and have watched infinity war, but there was a hidden message in it, with Thanos,

ill post later today, lets see if anyone else catches it.

  6. In regard to the posts above, I have to say that I am more of a pessimist due to personal events in my life lately. However, I have my optimistic moments. And I love being around optimistic people. The problem is, once you’re on your own again the negativity is back. Reality is back. But I keep hoping. I still enjoy a beautiful day like today – and that it is. Even ‘though we were on our way out and find the car battery dead! Oh, well. There is an expression that I have been hearing – “it is what it is” which is true but depressing. My favorite expression is “whatever!” That seems to cheer me up a bit. I could go on but got to check if they’ve come to fix the car. We all have to keep trying and hoping in this mixed-up world right now. And keep looking for some positivity – even if it’s just hearing the birds singing so early in the mornings now.

    1. You mentioned the birds singing. I can’t tell you what that does for me.
      Amazing! I absolutely love it.

When I go out fishing, that is one of the most serene feeling, hearing those
      beautiful birds chirping.

    2. I have to say last summer was probably one of the best summers I had in a while. One I had no TV, was able to enjoy life, I pretty much forgot about the negativity. I find when I am doing something like biking, skiing, going to the beach etc, gets my mind off of every day stuff. For the most part, there is so much news at the moment thats so depressing, I am not surprised so many people suffer from depression.

      1. Yes, and sometimes I find it better Not to watch the news. But nonetheless, I still want to know what’s going on. That’s great that you have all those activities to get your mind off stuff. We used to go day hiking some years ago – love, loved it! But husband’s back went out and that was that.

        1. Best thing I can do for myself when I feel less than good is to get OUTDOORS AND OFFLINE!!– hence my near obsession with skiing, biking, paddle-boarding and golf. Looking to add activities as I get older. 🙂

          1. Ourdoors and the birds and the sounds of smells of nature are my go to when I get down. It’s why I sit outside no matter the weather. In addition to feeling closer to Mac, it cheers me.

Rain shine, you have had some negatives so it is understandable that being positive is difficult. Oddly, a good cry also feels like a positive to me. The facilitator for the Dana group says her favorite way to let stress out is to buy a dozen eggs and go out into the yard and throw them at a tree. Even write whatever is upsetting you on them.

Blackstone for an admitted pessimist, you started a great positive discussion 🙂

            1. Sounds good, Vicki. A good idea – except that would mean I would have to clean the tree(and silly me, I wouldn’t want to hurt the tree! 🙂 ). But I am glad it works for your friend. I take walks outside a lot and that helps a lot.

  7. So, we had a brief taste of summer. It was nice, for the most part. Would have liked to see some thunderstorms around here. Glad there were no tornadoes anywhere(that I know of). Have to decide when to spring-clean; in other words, take out the shorts and summer clothes. A bit cool for that at this point. For me, anyway. But, typical spring weather. Spring showers and a rainy day here and there; but I hope no extended cold, wet, dreary periods with wind off the water.

  8. I’m more on Blackstone’s and Rainshine’s side of the optimism-pessimism spectrum. I’m not a believer in the ability of an individual’s free will to fully transcend circumstances. There are far too many external constraints over which we have little control. For example, I don’t believe in “you can become whatever you dream of becoming” statements. Rather, you can become what you’re intrinsically capable of becoming, provided you work hard, stay focused, and lead a good life. While to a certain extent we create our own luck and lack thereof, to a larger degree I believe we’re subject to both genetic and environmental forces that have shaped us over time. I don’t mind optimists or pessimists. Optimists because they shed a positive light on things I sometimes am unable to see clearly. Pessimists because I can relate to them.

    1. I’ve thought a lot about some of the comments. Each sincere, heartfelt and a wonderful way to know our WHW family better.

To me an optimist is not seeing that you can accomplish everything or even transcend the negatives in your life.

To me an optimist is making the best of what you have and being grateful for it. It is why I think a realist is closer to an optimist. Joshua, I think of you as a realist.

Example….not a day has gone by and not a day will go by that I do not just sit and cry missing Mac. But for all of that hurt, not a day goes by that I don’t feel blessed for every minute we had. And that is the greatest part of all.

Maybe I am more of a realist than optimist.

    1. All day I had a feeling Justify was going to win this. But I had to stick with the picks I made Thursday. And it turns out my 1st 2nd and 3rd came in 3rd 5th and 4th. 😉 Not bad!

      1. Nice TK.

I liked the way Justify moved. His confidence. I liked his jockey. I loved his eye….not a determining factor with anyone but me. And he was the number 7 horse. Luck with a teeny little bit of horse knowledge plugged in

    2. Thank you, Sue. Oldest grand had both win and place so took home the jackpot. I just divide my winnings among the six grands 🙂

It was an exciting race but made us all nervous with the sloppy course. Glad all did well.

        1. I had a 7/5/6 Trifecta. The result was 7/6/5. I thought the 5 caught second, but wasn’t the case. Ugh..Oh well…By the way very refreshing discussion on the blog today.

          1. Groan…….so so close. Well done

It’s been a nice discussion. You are right.

How are you and your family? I always enjoy seeing you here.

            1. Everyone is doing ok thanks. Hope you are as well! I’m out on my back porch listening to some relaxing tunes and enjoying the night.

  9. FV3-GFS (experimental) is seeing the potential omega type blocking pattern a little more than the current version of the GFS.
