Wednesday Forecast

6:27AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 1-5)
May gets underway with a break between wet weather systems today as high pressure has enough influence to keep the region dry, although cloudiness will dominate. A couple more waves of low pressure coming along and passing south of the region will bring periods of wet weather Thursday and Friday. Another one may impact the region sometime over the weekend, with the leaning toward Sunday at this time.
Forecast details…
TODAY: Partial sun at times, but mainly cloudy. Highs 55-62, coolest coast. Wind light variable

THURSDAY: Cloudy. Chance of rain/drizzle morning. Temperatures steady 45-52. Wind light NE.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Chance of rain/drizzle overnight. Lows 40-47. Wind light NE.
FRIDAY: Cloudy. Chance of rain/drizzle. Highs 45-55. Wind light NE.

SATURDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Chance of rain. Lows 45-52. Wind N to E 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Cloudy. Chance of rain. Highs 52-59 except cooler coast. Wind E 10-20 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 6-10)
Unsettled pattern overall but hard to tell which days stand the greatest chance of wet weather at this point. Temperatures trend milder.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 11-15)
Will have to watch the pattern which may try to evolve into a typical spring block, but that could put SNE in nicer or continued unsettled weather, depending on configuration. Too early to tell.

    1. You’ve been lucking out pretty good on the weekends despite the frequency of wet weather systems. 🙂

      1. Very well on schedule as of now . I just need Saturday this weekend I may take Sunday off for estimates.

  1. Thanks TK !

61F to start the month, 71F to end for average high temps at Logan.

Lets see how well this goes ……

We kind of had May in April, I’m guessing we’re going to get April temps in May …….

  2. Good morning and thank you TK. What a gloomy forecast. YIKES!!

Btw, Saw considerable SLEET mixed in with the rain on the ride in this morning.
Surface temp: 49-50. Must be a pretty interesting thermal profile today with it Cold just above the surface with a warmer layer above. :) 🙂

It was pretty cold at the Sox game, even for me. The coldest part of my body was
my hands as I left my gloves in the car. The free Hat was a high quality hat.

    1. You got one of their best games of this season !

      Porcello was great !

Having won 2 straight and given upcoming games against the White Sox and Orioles, they really have a chance here to go 8-2 or 9-1 in a 10 game stretch and get to and surpass a .500 win-loss record.

      1. Yes, Porcello was excellent, however, I am not sure how much
of that was Porcello’s excellence or the quality of the competition.
But I must say, he looked really good. His slider had them fooled all night long.

I have a sense that they are beginning to get untracked.

  3. FWIW ….

Accuweather has their summer outlook out.

It has all of the northeast shaded in a category titled …. very warm, drier …..

Based on its outlook, I might venture to guess a general 500 mb pattern of Pacific NW ridge, central US trof and broad east coast ridge.

    1. I think I’ve seen the CPC’s Jun-Jul-Aug outlook which is something similar, in terms of greater chances of warmer conditions on the 2 coasts and greater chances of cooler conditions in the central US. Highest chance of above avg precip in the central US. Again, looks like a 500 mb ridge-trof-ridge configuration.

        1. Hopefully, it won’t be accompanied by the humidity levels featured last summer. If I recall correctly, some climate locales recorded 2 and 3 times above the average number of hours spent with dewpoints greater than or equal to 70.

I wouldn’t mind being a general +1 to +3F on temps, but with manageable humidity, so that the nights and our houses, by default, can cool off somewhat.

    1. I go to Accuweather mainly for the blogs …. I like to check Brett Anderson’s weekly blog on the extended outlook (he usually projects out 3 to 4 weeks and relies on the EURO weeklies).

So, in going there this morning, I happened to see the summer outlook post. 🙂

    1. What am I missing, it seems perfect.

Saw a bit of sun, its generally cloudy. Temps seem perfectly projected and the winds are light.

      1. It RAINED up here and even SLEETED!!

He stated: TODAY: Partial sun at times, but mainly cloudy.

          1. Hey, I have no complaints.
That initial batch of precip was “supposed”
to stay North of us. 🙂 🙂

      1. Hi Tom! Feeling better each day, thank you for your well wishes. Would be feeling better if our Celts had performed better last night. 🙂

        1. Yes, the Celtics exhibited their one glaring weakness last night ….. their inability to show mental toughness to end another team’s run. They have been hit with so many 20 – 2 runs this year, they just can’t stop runs at 6 or 8 pts. I think it was 28-2 last night.

I think the Celts overwhelm the Bucks talent wise and they should win this series.

  4. I am not sure how you can accurately estimate what the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere was 2 million years ago but this is a pretty striking statistic if correct….

Last time carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere was this high it was during the Pliocene Epoch more than 2 million year ago. #nbcct #climatechange

    1. hmmmm – and I had no idea how either but was sure Matt would

      Thanks, Mark and Matt.

    1. Just sat out for lunch with daughter and granddaughter. We were surrounded by beauty.

    1. I’ll drive !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. I remember the first three days of May 2001 when we had a heat wave. I don’t like the cool cloudy rainy weather we have been having but I will take it over a heat wave especially one in early on in the warm weather season.

    1. I remember May 2001. I was sick in bed for two weeks with a virus. No fun to have it at any time but even worse during a heat wave.

It seems every spring we go from chilly, damp to HHH with no nice transition period with sunny, dry 70+ temps like NYC south.

  6. It was my junior year of high school and I had to wear shirt and tie for my school uniform. My high school had no AC and needless to say I was quite uncomfortable on that three day heat wave.

    1. I’m impressed. My kids didn’t have a dress code (public school). We had one in Belmont when I was in high school (also public). No ties but a button collar shirt and slacks. Then there was Katharine Gibbs. The year I started was the first that we did not have to wear hats. But we did have to wear gloves and always of course dresses/skirts. They had to fall just below the knee. By my second year there I had rolling skirts up above the knee when outside the school and removing gloves down to a science 😉

And when I went on interviews I knew what to wear. And when I was out in the working world, I had a wardrobe already built up.

Stepping down from my soapbox now!

  7. What I find so difficult about thiis weather it’s almost
Like it never really gets light out – just different shades of grey until it gets dark again

    1. I’m not really finding that to be the case at all. We’ve had a lot of thin overcasts in this pattern, in some cases with sun shining through. Today has been one of those days, partially.

      1. There was a good amount of sun behind the clouds here both yesterday and today. I love the look. The clouds looks as if they are made of silver. But then I find clouds in general incredibly fascinating.

Speaking of clouds….we have not seen rainshine in quite a while???

  8. Are the Red Sox about to win their 3rd straight? I thought this team was (prematurely) dead and buried before the first month of the season was over! 😉 😉

I guess these 3 wins make them a lock to repeat the W.S. title. 😛

  9. I love the sky today. Mid level overcast can be very sculpted and detailed. There’s some nostalgia in it as well. I remember being fascinated by such skies as a child, especially if my brother told me we might get thunderstorms later that night (probably cases of warm front storms coming at night, which they often did in the 1970s and 1980s.

  10. If it makes you feel better, even us in the mid-Atlantic were well on the cool side of the front today… in fact, while we’ve had some rainy days, I can’t recall a day like this recently: cool, cloudy, but dry. Different story tomorrow 🙂

Much as you may not believe or want to hear it, April is in the books, and yes, it was a warmer than normal month for SNE. Wetter than normal certainly as well. And less snowy than normal.

    1. The way people are talking up here, you’d think it rained every day with 10 inches of rain and temps 10F below normal. Other than being cloudy and having fairly frequent periods of (mostly) light rainfall, it was not a bad month at all when compared to many an April of the past.

People are reacting to what they see on their weather apps for the next 10 days as if it’s already happened and never will end.

      1. All it takes is a couple of raindrops on the 7 day and the week is “washed out” before it begins 🙂

  11. 9.23” of rain was the final tally for the month in my rain gauge here in Coventry. Not quite 10”, but close 🙂

  12. Mark good luck tonight to your Islanders. To me you should be up two nothing. No way that was goalie interference in game one that took the goal away and in game two I didn’t see a distinct kicking motion.

  13. What a run James Holzhauer is on winning 20 games and over 1.5 million on Jeopardy! I never thought we would see this again after what we saw with Ken Jennings 15 years ago. What is more impressive he is earning money at a quicker rate than Ken Jennings did.

  14. I heard last week Ken Jennings was average 34,000 a win. James Holzhauer is averaging 71,000 a win.

    1. Someday Jeopardy should have those two play each other. And maybe Watson could be there as well. What a matchup that would be.

  15. April rainfall at Logan = 6.52”

I would be curious where that amount ranks.

    April 2018 = 4.62”

  16. I would love to see a game on Jeopardy between James Holzhauer Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter. Brad Rutter has never lost to a human on Jeopardy. His only loss was to IBM computer Watson. When Brad was Jeopardy champion they had a five day limit. Who knows how many games he would have won the way he dominated.

    1. Thanks JJ. I knew there was a third person and could not recall his name. I’ll definitely go with brad over Watson

  17. Frustrating loss for the islanders JJ. They don’t deserve to be down 3-0 in the series to Carolina. Their priority needs to be finding some more offense in the off season.

I don’t think anyone would have predicted the two wild card teams, Carolina vs Columbus, in the eastern conference final but that is looking like a distinct possibility now if the Bruins don’t come back in their series.

    1. Incredible, but true. It’s what I love about hockey playoffs. Often so unpredictable. Does make the regular season less important, though.

    2. I should have added that I’m sorry the Islanders are down 3-0. I know that JJ and you (and perhaps others) are Islander fans. I can remember the golden years of 1980-1983. Talk about dominance. That was like the Yankees from 1996 through 2000 (well, minus 1997).

      1. Thanks. Frustrating but I can’t complain about their season. No one expected them to make the playoffs this year, let alone finish with 103 points and sweep the first round. It was a successful season and with a few tweaks to their offense in the off season, they could be the team to beat next year.

:re JJ I believe he is actually a Rangers fan!

      1. I know. I just don’t see them winning three straight. Columbus seems very hungry to me.

  18. TK – Can you answer my inquiry regarding Logan’s April rainfall above? Thanks.
