Windy Weekend

7:36PM

A broad area of low pressure passing north of New England spreads its large circulation across the area, resulting in windy weather this weekend and even Monday. Though we are not seeing the unseasonably warm temperatures of last weekend, it is still on the mild side for this time of year. A disturbance passing through the region today created a few passing showers, though a few of them were briefly heavy. Even some rainbows were spotted as later-afternoon showers were departing and the sun broke through the clouds as it lowered in the western sky. Another disturbance will head across southern New England late Sunday night the main threat of showers being in the overnight hours.

Looking ahead, a complex frontal system and a couple of low pressure areas are expected to bring unsettled weather to the region Tuesday and Wednesday, before moving away later in the week when a drier, chilly shot of air is expected.

  1. I think my thoughts about snow depth might be low as I saw an all black Woolly Bear Caterpillar today. The black is supposed to indicate snow amount, I’ve never seen one all black before!

    1. Hmmmm. That is depressing. In 92-93 and 93-94 the Middles were very wide and I remember some big storms those years

      1. Vicki, I thought you liked a lot of snow…you should be rejoicing if I understand Merlin correctly. 🙂

      2. I ask the same as Philip- You have been waiting for the snow to come. You want us to have a ton of snow all winter. I hope for as little as possible. I have been thinking though, this warm weather has me nervous. I am starting to think that when thing’s turn around it may come at us big, just a gut feeling. I know there is some talk about warm october and november but I don’t think that I buy into that. Like I said snow for me is nothing but a big pain in the you know what.

        1. I did mis-read Philips comment but I’ve always thought it was the width of the reddish brown on the catipillar that determined snow so in my mind an all black means no snow. Am I incorrect???

          1. I just checked and all of these years I was wrong – except I do remember very wide reddish bands in the above mentioned winters – hmmmmm

Either way I have learned something and now LOVE the fact that it was all black 🙂

  2. Based on today’s CPC outlook, we should be quite wet for the next 14 days which covers the rest of the month.

Could this end up as the warmest and wettest October on record??

    1. It sure has a chance to be the warmest. I have no idea what the actual departure from normal record is, but it cant be much more than its currently running.

  3. We’ve about hit the 7am sunrises in eastern Mass. Just before we switch the clocks back in 3 weeks or so, the latest sunrise is around 7:20am. That should be interesting on any cloudy mornings……

The satellite presentation of the disturbed weather in the NW Carribean looks quite healthy this morning. Named storm by the end of the day ?

Go Pats !! Think today’s game will be toughest game of the season to date.

    1. I think they do good today. The game that I think will be tough is Pit at Pit. That is the next game after there off week next week.

    2. My son in law isn’t worried about today’s game although he said it should be a good one. If you recall, he wasn’t worried about Buffalo either so perhaps it’s time for me to start worrying.

  4. The one thing about today’s game is the Cowboys are an angry team coming into play the Pats after blowing a big lead against the Lions two weeks ago. I think this is going to be a great game since both teams have the ability to put up points. If Pats get 30 points or more today they will tie the Rams at 14 which is the most consecutive games scoring 30 points or more.

  5. I’ve noticed that the pice needles on the pine trees around my house are turning yellow and falling off. This is happening to the majority of the tree. Has anyone come across anything like this?

    1. Coastal I noticed the same thing when I was out today and meant to mention it here but forgot. The side roads through natick and wellesley were literally covered with needles

    1. Now they have and extra week to prepare for what will be a very, very big game. I believe they head into the by in first place.

          1. Problem solved. We just ghosted our neighbors but didn’t want them to know we started it so didn’t put a ghost on our door so we got ghosted back which was fine because we got to do it to another neighbor. Moooohaaaaahaaaa

Does anyone ghost in their neighborhood
