    1. I also heard this morning that Dr. Fauci himself is now under “limited” quarantine, whatever that means. Am I understanding that correctly?

One has to wonder now if the WH itself will become a new “hotspot”. I am not making a joke either.

        1. I just don’t understand this administration’s lack of seriousness regarding this worldwide pandemic. They “poo-poo” deaths and totally disregard their own health as well as their staff and audience during ceremonies.

          1. Comes down to money’s importance being held at a higher level than the overall health and well-being of the population.

I tried not to believe that some would feel that way, but they do.

          2. The economy is his only positive, and even that was the strongest economy in a decade when he took office. So, with the election in a few months, his absolute focus is on that one positive. Deaths are not a focus since he has maneuvered well enough to be able to blame the states ….or China or Fauci or WHO or Obama or….well you name it.

  1. Regarding all sports, what happens when a player tests positive? I’m wondering if any season is going to be worth completing or starting.

  2. Watched a movie this morning entitled The Last Days.
    Interesting and frightening.

    It is available on Hulu

  3. How are you all faring this weekend? I’m getting more supplies from boxed.com coming in tomorrow. Even hand sanitizer spray that I will be bringing to work. Been working on a list of local businesses that ship because I want to support local rather than Amazon for other stuff (like books, games, etc.) – other than that I’ve just been trying to stay warm!

    1. I hope you are well also. I am not sure you saw my comment yesterday…paper towels are the new hard thing to find. I got them from boxed and some TP. Oh and rice crispies 🙂

I’ve also been looking for local places. As you know, the only place we in this house are buying food is at a local farm

      1. Excellent to hear! They are very fast with shipping and (usually) send a picture of the packed box when it is due to be taped up and sent out. Let me know when it gets to you!

  4. 12z GFS promoting 85F + Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend …..

    I know that’s 13 days away …….

The weather, in the eastern 2/3 rds of the country has been very helpful the last 5-7 days continuing to help, as an additional factor, to keep a majority of people not clamoring to be out and about.

That’s about to change. I’m wondering what’s going to happen as the weather pattern changes and the eastern 2/3 rds of the country warms up and we approach Memorial Day weekend and the psychology of missing traditional Memorial Day weekend happenings kick in, in people’s minds ……..

    1. Seeing the lower rate of infection in sunnier / warmer climates to me, at least, makes me think the warmer weather will be more of a boon than a curse. Rate of transmission outdoors is much lower from what I’ve read, UV/heat helps kill the virus, etc etc. – my concern is less about the warmer temps ahead and more about the colder months after it. Even though the idea of a second curve has been out there for some time… the virus dying off to a degree/curve flattening will lead to complacency as we’ve mentioned. Hopefully enough have immunity to a degree that there’s some sort of herd immunity by that time. I’d rather have conspiracy theorists think it was some weird hoax and have the numbers be low come next flu season… rather than an outcry against closing down again because of rising numbers.

  5. Vicki,

I just ordered some Bounty paper towels from Amazon and they had them in stock.
Due to be delivered next week.

Go get em while they last.

    1. I find it interesting that people ( not all ) are so focused on railing politically left or right and can’t find it to escape just a little bit and wish all the mothers in the world a happy Mother’s Day . Vicki, you for one is a very devoted mother. Thank you . I know I have missed to say I am sorry that your son caught the virus I believe. Prayers to you and all mothers . TK God bless your mother. If I missed anyone else I am sorry. Stay healthy all

          1. I wish your wife and your mother a happy Valentine’s Day. Mothers are the reasons why we are here. Happy Mother’s Day

            1. You are totally missing the point . All I hope for is you wished your wife a happy Mother’s Day and you thought about your mother today ….. I miss my mother every day

              1. Now I’m not sure If I missed your point. I can’t believe you were implying either Dave or I didn’t take the time today honor those whose day it is…..here or in heaven. Surely, you know Dave is an amazingly dedicated husband. And surely you also can’t think I have not taken the the time to honor my mom…..who by the way was the one who taught me by example to not only speak out but reach out when I see something I feel is wrong. So I am at a loss.

                1. A bit hard to tell since we were all in the comment you said JPD missed the point. Easy to make comments that are not clear. I know I do when I post quickly.

      1. Thank you, Aiden. My son is back at work. We are still keeping his six year old son and his girlfriend in our prayers that they do not get it. I sure hope you and yours are well. I keep you in my prayers each day.

As for an escape. I understand your frustration. I can guarantee you I don’t rail left or right. I rail when I see a risk for my loved ones.

There is never a day Moms don’t stop being a mom of course. Even on a day that celebrates them. We are in an incredibly dangerous time. We look to leaders to take steps that protect us from the worst. If they don’t, they jeopardize those we love. Mama bears exist in every form of nature. It’s part of our DNA.

All of that aside, I’m somewhat of a history fan. Jefferson’s words come to mind…… “Dissent is the highest form of patriotism.” I love this country and am sickened by what we are becoming. That applies to all who seem to need a reset of their sails and not just one party.

  6. Aiden: Check out the “Sunday Forecast” on the regular Weather blog and you will find PLENTY of acknowledgements regarding Mother’s Day. This other blog is pretty much dedicated to the COVID-19 crisis for those who wish to discuss that specifically.

    1. Hey Philip , As I said ” not all ” and people sometime not all uses both. And , one other thing this is non weather but somewhat more about the topic on this particular blog. Finally, I am Aidan, not Aiden

      1. Sorry about Aiden. I am used to my name being misspelled so answer to most any spelling.

  7. Vicki: I hope your son took the proper time to quarantine and get healthy again. I believe it is recommended 14 days. As you probably know by now, I have an “essential” job as well. Happy Mother’s Day to you! 🙂

    1. They made him return to work when his dr cleared him. I thought it was too soon but in this case the state trumps mom.

  8. Today’s numbers across the country are quite good, even if they are impacted by the Sunday effect. It’s the best Sunday in at least 5 weeks in terms of both new cases and deaths. We’re headed in the right direction. The dire predictions of 200k new cases and 3,000 deaths per day by the end of the month … thankfully, that’s not going to happen. I’m not sure how models could have figured that would happen. Transmission dynamics, weather, even reopening guidelines in all states that prevent all large gatherings from happening, don’t support an explosion in new cases or deaths.

This said, you’ll see on the useful graphic below that quite a number of states (mostly less populated) are still rising in terms of new cases – and many of these same states have relatively low testing rates.

    1. Now this is wonderful. I just read to my daughter who was walking through the room. Thanks, Joshua

  9. Big week as I suspect an announcement should come at some point regarding the emergency order on 5/18 . I’m really waiting for this one what will he do . I’m actually thinking a lot of business will get the green light to reopen with strict guidelines. I do not think bars , clubs or inside restaurants will be able to open but I do see if an establishment can open up outdoor seating with social distance they will be able to open . I also think the stay home order will be lifted as well . I’m all in for safety but I just think the Governor is going to be forced to start the phases and get the economy slowly opened . All big events attracting a lot of people will be canceled throughout the remainder of the year & possibly no opening of hotels . Next big closings will be the the Boston marathon, all first nights And no NY New Year’s Eve . Just a hunch

    1. Agree.

It’s going to be reopen lite: Limits on every kind of gathering.

I don’t think anything returns to normal until: a. effective vaccine; or b. spring of 2022.

My guess is the virus will wreak havoc in waves and go around the globe over a 2 year period. Unless there was a true travel lockdown – and there never has been one – you can’t completely eliminate it. What we all hope for is that the 2nd and 3rd waves are less lethal.
