At the same time, nations that have done well in terms of vaccinations aren’t (yet) beating the virus. In fact, they rank among the worst in terms of hospitalizations and deaths. The latter is conspicuous and correlated with infiltration, if you will, of the B117 variant. Portugal, for example, has done relatively well in terms of vaccinations, but is experiencing a nearly vertical increase in deaths. This is very likely due to B117.
For this and other reasons, I urge my fellow Americans to be cautious in the coming weeks. The variants are here; B117 in particular is doubling every 5-7 days. We’re vaccinating at a nice clip. But, vigilance is imperative. B117 is more transmissible and in all likelihood deadlier. It also infects younger folks (<50) more, and they go on to develop symptoms more frequently.
C-19 for 2-1 is ready.
