Sunday April 21 2024 Forecast (8:17AM)

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 21-25)

We’ll be in a cool weather pattern during the coming several days. Yesterday’s mild interlude had to be enjoyed with some wet weather to start, and some additional scattered showers for some areas late in the day. Last night though, behind a secondary front/trough, if you were outside you could feel the cool air’s arrival and even hear some gusty wind if inside. That breeze will settle a bit today but not enough to prevent making it feel chillier than the upper 50s it will climb to. We’ll also have a shield of high cloudiness cover a good portion of our sky, spreading in this morning and hanging around until evening, but it may provide the opportunity for a colorful sunset, so watch for that. Also, some fair-weather clouds will pop up underneath the higher cloud deck but those will dissipate later in the day. Tonight, with a clearing sky and the wind dropping off, look for a chill, with some frost potential away from the immediate coast and outside urban centers. If you have sensitive plants outside already, take steps to protect them. This will probably be repeated Monday night as well. High pressure will bring fair weather Monday and Tuesday, with Tuesday being the milder of those 2 days. A trough and frontal system brings our only rain chance during the next 5 days, on Wednesday. Thursday will see the return of dry weather, but we’ll have to deal with a shot of very cool air, gusty wind, and at least a 50/50 sun/cloud mix, if not more clouds than that due to a cold pool of air aloft crossing the region.

TODAY: Limited sun. Highs 55-62. Wind W 10-20 MPH, gusts to 25 MPH.

TONIGHT: Clearing. Lows 33-40. Wind W diminishing to under 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Abundant sun. Highs 55-62. Wind W 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 33-40. Wind W under 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 58-65. Wind WSW 5-15 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Clouds arrive. Lows 45-52. Wind S up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Cloudy. Midday and afternoon rain showers likely. Highs 56-63. Wind SE-S 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy evening with rain showers ending. Breaking clouds overnight. Lows 40-47. Wind shifting to W 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.

THURSDAY: Lots of clouds / intervals of sun. Highs 48-55. Wind shifting to NW and increasing to 15-25 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 26-30)

As we head down the home stretch of April to the finish of the month, we’ll see some changeable weather, as is typical for this time of year. Looking for fair weather April 26, more tranquil than the day before, but a cold start. Previously I’d been looking at the potential for unsettled weather on the weekend of April 27-28 and that potential is still there, but it may be held back somewhat by a blocking pattern again, and this same pattern probably eliminates that previously-mentioned potential much warmer interlude near the end of the month, which now looks quite a bit cooler to me. Forecasting spring weather in the Northeast – yes it’s harder than any other season – but I’ll continue to monitor the trends here for month’s end.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 1-5)

Early May’s pattern looks changeable, unsettled at times, but not too wet in comparison to recent weather. Confidence is not high here though, with the lower confidence already in place before we even get to day 10 (see previous section). Much fine-tuning of the early May outlook in the days ahead.

  1. Thanks TK and thanks all for the birthday wishes yesterday.

Its sunny and in the low 30s here at sugarloaf. Had a period of moderate snow come through yesterday AM before skies started to clear in the PM. Then had another period of wet snow after dark. Skiing in the trees below the summit yesterday I would estimate a good 2-3 feet of natural snow still on the ground but once you drive down the access road from the resort ground is mostly bare. They are planning on staying open until May 5 here.

    1. Wow. Good for them. And for you. A friend who has family in North Conway said snow is gone. Her grandkids have moved from skiing to baseball

  2. Thanks, TK. And thanks for all the Happy Anniversary wishes yesterday from everyone. We had a wonderful dinner and enjoyed looking at the Grist Mill before we ate dinner.

And hope you had a very Happy Birthday, Mark!

It’s 48 degrees here in Sudbury. Looks like more frost advisories for the next few days. Looking forward to the warmer weather.

    1. Such a perfect way to celebrate. ❤️. I don’t mind a good frost. Mosquitoes are nasty already.

  3. Up to 50 here now after a low of 38.

Ocean temp at Stellwagen is 45.9. Getting there.
For some reason, Boston Buoy is still NOT reporting
    a water temperature.

  4. Chilly walk along the shore this AM, but I noticed a real difference when the sun finally hit me in the face.

  5. CPC’s previous forecast of below normal temps when the upcoming week was in the 6-10 day time frame will verify. Cool times ahead.

In fact, Thursday may qualify as “cold” by late April standards. Especially if the sun isn’t shining at any particular time.

  6. Today’s Red Sox Starting Lineup + Starting Pitchers combined salary: $9.16 million

Rafael Devers Salary this season: $27.5 million

One injured player is literally making triple the amount that the 10 guys taking the field are making today. Even Oakland’s lineup isn’t this cheap. But this is what John Henry wanted apparently.

    1. In 1959 Ted was paid 125,000. If I’m figuring correctly, and I may not be, thaf asjusts to $1,300,000.00 in 2024. I forget which year he was in a slump, but he asked for a salary cut

  7. In 10 days, Nate & I will be releasing the first single from our forthcoming album called “F&S”. We are a (mostly electronic) music duo called “A Finesse”. Our stuff will contain elements of all our influences, but will be rather different.

The first single, in particular, is going to be noted for starting with 8 beats in the first chorus, 7 in the second, 6 in the third, 5 in the fourth, and 4 in the fifth, with 4 beat count in each of the 4 verses. We recorded the vocals last year originally, then due to a data issue we had to re-record them recently, and to be honest I think they came out better the second time. It’s really hard to train yourself to sing in a decreasing time signature with each passing chorus, even though the words for each of them are performed in a robotic fashion in a single note, with the verses being more traditionally melodic vocally, but with the quirk of Nate & myself trading parts of the lines back and forth, not broken up where you might think. There are some cases where one of us sings the first part of a word and the other finishes it. That was really difficult to pull off. 🙂

We’re making a music video to accompany the song as well. 🙂

      1. I will. It will be on YouTube (the song / video) and the song will be on Spotify.

Hoping to follow this with a second single release about 1 month later, a third following that, and the entire album August 4.

  8. Coming up between 7:30 and 8:00, a good portion of Central to East Central and northeastern MA including Southeastern NH could very well have a skyfire sunset.

      1. It produced pretty nicely in southeastern MA, and east central MA. I posted a pic on my FB post in the comments. 🙂

    1. Thanks Joshua. I’m usually out watching but am not positive the coywolf who has been paying us a nightly visit has moved on.

  9. The Sox should play on the road the rest of the way. They’ve been very good on the road and pretty horrible at home. This extends to late last season. It’s weird.
