Mild & Unsettled

7:30AM

We’ll be on the mild side of the jet stream for a few more days along with some unsettled weather. A warm front approaching from the southwest and a disturbance moving northward will bring lots of clouds and some shower threat to southeastern New England today. A weak cold front will try to move into the region Thursday but will be lacking any real push and basically wash out over the region. It will provide the alley for a low pressure wave to move up across the region Thursday night and early Friday, when the greatest threat of rain exists. This should move out quickly on Friday and most of the weekend should be dry with a cooling trend.

Forecast for southeastern New England…

TODAY: Mostly cloudy. Areas of fog this morning. Showers possible mainly Cape Cod and the Islands. Highs in the 60s, coolest in coastal areas. Wind variable to SE 5-15 MPH.

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Slight chance of showers late. Lows around 50. Wind SE to S 5-10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Partly sunny. Slight chance of showers early. Highs in the 60s to around 70. Wind variable around 10 MPH.

THURSDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Showers likely especially late. Lows in the 50s. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.

FRIDAY: Clouds and showers may linger early then partly to mostly sunny. Highs in the 60s. Wind variable 10-15 MPH.

SATURDAY: Partly sunny. Low 45. High 65.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 40. Highs 60.

MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 35. High 58.

TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Low 44. High 59.

      1. Thanks, Ace. I am finding the connection fascinating and am happy it was brought up here. Tom’s question prompted me to look quickly to see if I could find a good source for Siberian weather that updates regularly. So far I have not found one.

    1. Yes Vicki Judah is very well known in the field and has a pretty good accurate record in predicting winters. I was very honered to be talking with him. He would have been great on here but as he told me he prefers to talk long range not short, he was here though and liked the site but just was not for him.

  1. Vicki I like to see the blue with above normal precipitation in those CPC outlooks in the winter months because with the right storm track we could have an accumulating snow.

    1. First pitch temp…54, overcast, west breeze up to 10 MPH.

The only way it rains in this game is if we go about 17 innings. 😉

                1. Kinda pricey, gotta be honest Charlie, but the quality is unmatched. No wonder u know a lot about lawns, LOL

  2. I heard from a weather forecaster, I can’t remember which 1, but specified that the mid-Atlantic to Boston may not get frost and freeze warnings this Oct, more like Nov this yr, tonight’s game is actually not bad, we got the panthers against Bucs, I wanna see the Panthers play cause the Patriots got them in 4weeks, have a good day 🙂

      1. Did a warning ever go up, John? I was surprised that the car windows had to be scraped but we didn’t have any frost on the ground.

          1. Yes, it was me in sharon, tues morning i had to scrape my windshield and some lawns were frost covered. Frost on the cars and lawn in Walpole that morning as well when i got to work. Not sure about other areas.

            1. But i dont think there were any widespread watches or warnings posted as it was sort of a surprise frost

              1. hahahaha – I wasn’t saying there wasn’t frost or a freeze but asked if there had been an actual warning which is what I thought Charlie had said. Although I could well be losing it too 🙂

  3. Thank you to those who contributed to the discussion on the Siberian weather connection.

Light snow has arrived at Baffin Island, but it is still too warm. Normal high for October 17 is -2C, and normal low is -8C. Today it’s 2C (about 36) and it’ll get down to the freezing point (0C). It’s been this way for a long time (with lows barely making it to 30F), and that pattern is locked in for now. So, whatever cold is spilling over to Siberia from the polar region, is not making it over the the Canadian side. Not yet, in any case.

    1. It was very interesting, Joshua. Thanks for the link. What links do you use to find the current weather and/or conditions for Siberia.

And it’s great to see you here 🙂

        1. You have a site that gives you the snow cover to date and that updates it regularly? I’m not finding one. But then I’ve had a migraine type headache for most of the week so can only look at the screen for so long 🙂

  4. could we bet talking about temps struggling in the low 50s by the middle of next week and seeing the first winter weather event for extreme northern new england late next week. while we get rain or has that storm gone poof.

  5. Silly question I am sure. Does the atmospheric pressure change when seasons change. Or anything like that. I’ve always noticed I have headaches with pressure changes from storm systems. But it seems I also have them when seasons change. Or maybe it’s temps. Thank you!!

    1. probably temperatures, usually get a headache, cold on top of allergies, so happy i went and got that new allergy medicine allergies had not effected me yet since i got the medicine

    2. Do you get them every season change? Or more particularly when we are heading through Autumn toward winter?

      1. I seem to remember it is in spring but can’t remember if spring to summer or winter to spring. I know its always this time of year. I don’t get headaches regularly and if I do they are easily managed except now. I’m keeping notes……finally 🙂

  6. fanthttp://www.wunderground.com/wundermap/?zoom=4&rad=0&wxsn=0&svr=0&cams=0&sat=0&riv=0&mm=1&mm.mdl=GFS&mm.type=SURPRE&mm.hour=0&mm.opa=100&mm.clk=0&hur=0&fire=0&tor=0&ndfd=0&pix=0&dir=0&ads=0&tfk=0&fodors=0&ski=0&ls=0&rad2=0asy so look way at the end though it won’t happen but first time i see blue always nice to see
