Friday Forecast

12:15AM

New England will live up to its reputation of changing weather in the days ahead. An active jet stream is sending storm systems through every few days, but with breaks of nice weather in between. This is about as close to “text book weather” as we can get. Will the Boston Marathon (Monday April 18) fall on one of the storm days or one of the fair weather days? Read on to find that out, along with the weather for the other days during the coming week, which is a school vacation week for many!

  1. The Marathon forecast looks very decent — it’s the only sporting event in Boston I want to watch right now. Bruins, Celtics, Red Sox — Ugh!

  2. Herring

    O frabjous day! Calloh! Callay!
Herring scouts came in to Weymouth today!

    1. Herring are starting to run? Bet the first schoolies show up along the south shore next week….

  3. I think the Celtics will win the series since the Knicks really don’t play defense. The Bruins I am going to say is a must win because you can’t go back to Montreal down 2 games. The Red Sox need to win this series against Tornoto before the first west coast trip of the season.
Now on to the weather and our next storm system which looks to me to be a Saturday night into Sunday morning rain event. I am thinking 1-2 inches of rain along with some gusty winds which could reach advisory criteria and maybe even some rumbles of thunder though nothing severe like they are dealing with in the Plains and south today with tornadoes.

  4. Hi all! Busy busy day & evening for yours truly, so I won’t get to a full update until either late tonight or sometime tomorrow morning-midday. No big changes anyway!

  5. Hey all…
Lyndon state college was amazing, from the geographic location to the brand new state of the art technology.
After the tour, the main professor of the atmospheric science course had a chat with us, which you don’t get often.
Hopefully I can keep my grades up till the end of high school so I can attend and succeed at Lyndon state

  6. A lot of tornado reports yesterday and today. As you pointed out Scott just rain up here but don’t be surprised to hear a rumble of thunder but that will be MINOR. The severe weather tomorrow looks to shift to the Mid Atlantic where using the thunderstorm index MODERATE to possibly SEVERE level activity is possible.

    1. I was checking those tornado’s out at Lyndon State’s weather center today, they were really apparent on radar.

  7. You could see that rotation on the radar today and the video of some of these tornadoes was quite impressive. I can’t wait for vortex 2 the great tornado chase to start and will if we are able to see one form on live television which is a sight to see as I happened to be watching 2 years ago when the team caught up to a tornado in a field in Wyoming.

    1. Lyndon State took part in Vortex 2 last year, it’s too late now for me to take part in such an amazing program 🙁 would have loved to go.

  8. I’m sure at least someone here has heard of Nolan Atkins, he was the professor i got to hear from today.

  9. Great news Scott. You have passion, knowledge and a refreshing maturity. Lyndon would be lucky to have you attend!

And happy birthday to Coastals daughter and Johns son. Both big birthdays!!

  10. No changes in my thoughts for the storm system affecting us.
Thankfully the severe weather will remain in the Mid Atlantic where a tornado watch is up and the SPC calling it a Particularly Dangerous Situation so SEVERE to EXTREME Level activity down there. For us any thunder will be MINOR.

    1. There is no comparison in storms in south to here, when I moved back from Tx I didn’t realize how uneventful the storms r here, go celtics 🙂 have a good day everyone 🙂

  11. Greetings all from a very windy ocean city, md. We are settling in down here, but are sky watching today with tornado watches posted to our west and southwest. Have a good week !

  12. It’s been a busy few days for me.

Scott – That is great. Lyndon State will be lucky to have you! I looked up Nolan Atkins, as the name was familiar to me ( I watch Storm Chasers and the Vortex shows with the storm chasers). Nolan is a Mesoscale Meteorologist – I really believe one day you will get a chance to go on a Vortex program someday. If my math had been better when I was younger, I would have tried to study meteorology. In high school, I used to give extra credit reports on weather, tornadoes, etc.

Congratulations to all the birthdays today.

Vicki – it looks like your son will have a good day for running on Mon. I wish him good luck!

Looks like it will be a wet and windy night tonight, but thankfully not as bad as down south. Last night we were watching the Weather Channel as a supercell was right over Atlanta. The Weather Channel’s lights had briefly gone out – the radar was really something – huge storm.

Enjoy the rest of the wknd. everyone – wonder if the Red Sox will get any better. 🙁

    1. Rainshine – thank you and I will pass your wishes to my son. It was nice of you to remember. We are all making signs and his niece and nephew have made T-shirts that say Go Uncle Scottie on the front and #1 Uncle on the back!

  13. Tom enjoy your time in Maryland and keep an eye to the sky. Only severe thunderstorm warnings in the tornado watch for D.C. Delaware and Maryland. I think the main tornado threat will be to the watch area in Southern Virgina, North and South Carolina.

  14. Good afternoon all! Working on a new blog now. My son’s first soccer game was this morning (CHILLY out there in the wind!). Went to a pancake brunch afterward. So here I am to update before dinner & heading to watch the Bruins with friends. Go B’s!
