Wild Night

4:30 PM

Storm moving in! A potent low (the one responsible for all the severe weather the last few days in the Midwest & South) will be moving through tonight & Sunday. Though we won’t see the extent of the severe weather other places unfortunately experienced, we will see heavy rain, strong wind, and possibly some thunder overnight tonight & early Sunday morning as this low passes northwest of New England and drags a strong frontal system through this area.

Visit our friends at the National Weather Service for a list of watches, warnings, and advisories in effect for tonight’s storm:

The good news is, behind this system is a batch of dry, mild air, that will be over us on Monday, Patriots Day, producing favorable conditions for runners in the Boston Marathon as well as great baseball weather at Fenway for the Red Sox. Hopefully the Sox will provide us with great baseball………

Beyond Monday, the active pattern continues and a frontal system will be in the region Tuesday into midweek, providing several opportunities for showers and somewhat variable temperatures, depending on where the frontal boundary is. For the moment, I am going to use the European Model has my main source of guidance in terms of timing, and my own feelings about details, so anything from Tuesday on is subject to change.

This outlook will peek a bit further than usual out to give you an idea of what I expect next weekend for those observing Good Friday & Easter Sunday.

  1. Rain started here in N.Attleboro around 8pm, we’ve gotten about .15, wind is howling around 30mph, all of this will be outa here bright and early Sun, wouldn’t surprise me if sun is out by early afternoon, also Sunday looks seasonably warm with temps around 60 degrees 🙂

  2. Wow, it even got out of here a little before I thought, it stopped raining around 5am, looks seasonably mild today, around 60 but breezy 🙂 have a good day, and summer is right around the corner, got a huge barbeque today, probably 35-40 people coming, and yes some of the kids will be swimming in 50 degree temp pool water lol

  3. Sadly my rain gauge broke but we had steady rain all night in Framingham and a few claps of thunder at 1:15 am.

  4. I won’t know how much rain fell in Boston until the climo stats come out later today, but I mostly want to comment about yesterday’s temps. They were the coldest “non-snow” April day I have felt in years. I was on the job most of the day outdoors and it felt more like wishing everyone a “Happy Thanksgiving” rather than a “Happy Easter”…..brrrrrrrrr! April 5, 1982 (the day before the 6-7 snowstorm) comes to mind.

Also, Joe hinted on one of his evening blogs that the NAO goes negative in the coming weeks. I hate hot weather, but is this possible???

  5. Wow what a difference, I drove from N.Attleboro to S.NH and back and it’s brown in nh, and green and colorful here, my wife really couldn’t believe it how much difference there was, it’s crazy, next weekend I’m putting all my plants we’ve bought out, I put them out every year on the last weekend of April 🙂 have a great day everyone

  6. Charlie my time frame is anything after the 20th and we are good shape! Chance of a freeze is very low after the 20th in the Boston area.

    1. Yeah all the fast food chains around my area must have the same landscaper cause they were all plain last week, and today they have fresh mulch and flowers, here we come summer!!!

  7. Ocean temps just south of Conn and RI r hitting 50 degrees hadi, oceans r raising 1 degree per week for the next 16wks

  8. Good evening all.

I continue to be on a backup computer as the fan that cools the motherboard of my main machine was dead, the new one is on order and should be in by Thursday night…

Working on the week ahead blog. Hope to have it updated soon!
