Monday Night Update

11:11PM

The weather during the day Monday was as expected. It was breezy with sun dominating the early part of the day, clouds dominating later. During this evening, a disturbance has been moving through with scattered showers. These will be moving out overnight. From here on, there is not a great deal of change in thinking from the discussion posted on the last blog. There is greater confidence that we will stay in the cooler airmass through Wednesday. The greatest chance for heaviest rain will be during the 2nd half of Wednesday as low pressure makes its approach. I don’t have much to add at this point about later in the week so the forecast remains essentially unchanged.

Here’s an updated Boston area forecast…

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Showers ending. Low 41 to 46. Wind N 5 to 15 mph.

TUESDAY: Cloudy. Chance of drizzle or very light rain. High 49 to 54. Wind NE 10 to 15 mph.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Chance of light rain and drizzle. Low 43 to 48. Wind NE 10 to 15 mph.

WEDNESDAY: Cloudy. Chance of light rain and drizzle into mid afternoon then an increasing chance of steadier/heavier rain later. High 49 to 54. Wind E 10 to 20 mph with higher gusts.

THURSDAY: Chance of showers. Low 41. High 57.

FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 39. High 61.

SATURDAY: Chance of showers. Low 44. High 58.

SUNDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 43. High 63.

  1. Charlie I hate that to with the pollen especially after I get the car washed. No car washing weather the next two days as it looks to be unsettled.

  2. Good morning all. Greetings from somewhere along the Maryland Virginia border as we take a day trip south of the Ocean City area…… 60-70 today and maybe 80s tomorrow in warm sector.

    1. It’s a beautiful area Tom. Glad you are enjoying. We spent some time in Chincoteague when the kids were little and in the Annapolis and Kent Narrows area. Have fun

      1. Hi Vicki.

Thanks….we made it to Chincoteague last year and I liked it very much !! We were at a state park near Pocomoke City, but my youngest daughter got sick (turned out to be diagnosed as an ear infection). Thats ok though, we got her some medication and the campground is beautiful.

  3. Signs of summer, my drive today and noticed that what was an empty harbor a few days ago is now full of boats, last yr I thought it was mid may before they did that but this year there a month early, waters r warming roughly a degree per wk 🙂 it won’t be long now

    1. Too bad the ocean waters don’t get warm enough so i don’t have to shiver when i go in for a swim during the summer, compared to further down south.

  4. harhar and matt sousa( the fake one is very crude) use a bunch of names. They never have a forecast and are always down on everything. I just report them and their post is removed pretty quick. Will this weather ever change or will we be in the soup through the weekend?

    1. I have asked the real Matt & others to please ignore the troll and just report the comments but some of the people keep engaging him, which just fuels him even more.

I don’t care if people are there to forecast, observe, ask questions, comment, whatever, as long as it’s civil. Anyway, this person’s behavior fits the profile of an angry person, probably male, somewhere between their mid 20s and early 40s. I highly doubt it’s a teenager as many have suspected.

Yes we will see some nice weather Thursday & Friday. 🙂

  5. I am still commenting on the BZ blog but not as much. I hate the way its going. I hope Shotime comes over to this blog since that person hoped I would not leave the blog since the thunderstorm index which was started last year helped that person plan their activities. I hope that it will do the same this year and for years to come.

  6. Hey all- It’s been awhile. Some cool weather in store I guess. I was down the cape for
the weekend and that wind was howling on Saturday. Sunday and Monday were nice warm sunny days down there.

      1. Hi Vicki- we all had a blast, we may try to go back in July. Congrats to your son on his finish. I ran it 4yrs ago.

  7. I occasionally look at the WBZ weather blog, but not knowing “who is who” doesn’t make it very inviting anymore. I feel bad for the meteorologists – wish they could see and be part of this blog, but I guess that can’t be.

I just saw Todd Gutner’s 6:15 forecast and he had somebody from Accuweather, I believe, and they were comparing the amount of severe storms from 2008 to this year. I am wondering if this Spring-Summer season will bring a lot of severe weather to New England. I remember in 2008 how there were a lot of what I think they call “cold pools” that got over an area and aided in the occurence of severe weather. Sorry if I am way off base with my lack of knowledge.

On another note, I also noticed how much of a difference a few miles can make. I was in Framingham today – and it seemed to me there were more trees budding than here in Sudbury. Hope everyone has a great evening!

    1. Hi Rainshine – how far into Framingham were you? I’m on the Sudbury line. Our tree buds are quite large and the forsythia in our yard are in full bloom. The peonies in our garden are up about 4-5 inches and seem to add an inch at a time now.

      1. Hi Vicki – we were in downtown Framingham yesterday – the southern part of Framingham, in the Clark St. area – actually just before the downtown area.(went through back roads to avoid the downtown area) We were on our way back from visiting a gift/bookstore on Rte. 135 as I was getting an Easter gift for a friend. We live in the center of Sudbury. Our forsythia is in bloom too and some rhododendron are starting to bloom too. But what I noticed was the trees seemed to have more buds on them then here in Sudbury. Maybe it’s because where we live as we are surrounded by so many pine trees!

        1. I love the center of Sudbury. The antique homes are spectacular and you can feel the history just driving through the area. My dream is when we retire to find a small antique home with some land so I can have some ponies for the grandkids.

  8. I got a kick out of Todd’s evening blog “The Lousy Side of Spring”…is there really any “other” side here in New England?…lol. 🙂

Having said that, this particular spring is somewhat lousy most everywhere in the CONUS…cool & damp here, snows in the upper Midwest, tornadoes in the south and Mid-Atlantic states, and drought in Texas. 🙁

As for the WBZ blog, it would be best IMO if everyone here on TK’s blog not post over there, even when there is lots of wx to talk about. My hope is that WBZ makes drastic changes when they start noticing that all the “good” bloggers are no longer there. Let the trolls “think” they have control for now. Heck, boycotts and protests worked during the 1960’s. For now I am quite happy to remain “here”. No “refreshing” issues as well. 🙂

    1. Philip I tend to agree with you. BZ IMHO will have to do one or two things – fix it or shut it down. This is what happened to Conversation Nation before it shut down but I knew beforehand that their intent was to close it. I hope that is not the intention with the weather blog as it was always far better than CN. I’m just amazed it has gone on this long.

  9. Winter storm watches are up for northern Maine. It never ends up there.
BZ blog is out of control. Can’t say anymore about it except I do feel bad for the mets bc they put time and effort into it.

Our weather is what is to be expected for April in NE.

  10. Having read the comments here I went to the BZ blog – something I haven’t done in a bit. Matt Sousa is asking for Coastal’s email address. Is that the real Matt Sousa??

  11. Why do I go to a city like Nashville and they r building some beautiful 40 story buildings, and Boston has a 3 yr argument over a 280 ft tower that’s right next to a 40 story tower, I don’t get it, in most cities they build towers the size of the pru every year, and we r worried about a 7 min shadow lol, it kinda makes me wanna move bc it’s never gonna change from this sleepy area, why r they afraid of change? It makes me wanna puke, sorry 🙂 have a good day

  12. The Matt Sousa I believe is the real Matt. The trolls are funnybone harhar to name a few.
On to the weather the SPC has a slight risk for severe weather CT River valley westward. I am not buying it and think the main thunderstorm activity will be NYC south today. I think the cold front as it approaches the maratime air will lose its punch and we get more in the way of showers with possibly a rumble of thunder. With that said since there is a chance of thunder I am going to give a 1 on the 1-4 thunderstorm index with again the bigger thunderstorm threat being NYC southward where I expect MODERATE level activity there.

    1. Hi JimmyJames.

I’m looking westward over the bay towards Salisbury, Md….I can see a few cumulus clouds starting to build. Otherwise, its hazy blue skies with a howling south wind. Its probably 65 F here right by the cool ocean, but already nearly 80F just inland in Salisbury. They are expecting thunderstorms later, I’ll try to post later tonight if we get any.

  13. Charlie the setup is not there to get any big in the thunderstorm department here. The clouds are hanging tough and not allowing the sun to come out and destablize the atmosphere and you have a wind coming in from off those cool ocean waters which tends to stablize the atmosphere.

  14. Hi Jimmy…I noticed that some trolls over on the WBZ site were harshly criticizing your snow and thunderstorm index. You really should stop posting over there. I really hope that more “good” bloggers start to come over here with time.

    JMO

  15. I am going to start posting here a lot more. I said this the other day I hope we could get Shotime over here to this blog because that person said a few weeks ago I hope you don’t stop posting on the BZ blog because the thunderstorm index really helped me in making my plans. It is a shame what that blog has become but these trolls who post have no knowledge of weather what so ever. One of them said eastern MA will get buried with a coastal hugger and I had to laugh because coastal huggers don’t bring big snows to eastern MA.

  16. I refuse to go to the WBZ blog now, it’s a waste of my time to see all those trolls constantly blog.

    So how about this weather….
Another raw and at time, rainy April day is in store for us, nothing to celebrate about.
Thursday and Friday should feature sun, but the temps will be a bit below AVG.
And the weekend should be rainy yet again, but neither the NAM nor GFS spit out more than a half inch of QPF at this time.

  17. I don’t stay off the WBZ blog bc of trolls, I stay off that blog bc this one I am at least blogging with people with a bit more knowledge, I’m not one to answer questions, I just write what I think, have a great day everyone 🙂

  18. Hi all! Sorry again for the lack of updates the last day or so… Having this tiny laptop as my only computer has been a hinderance and I was out alot. However the main comp is back in service tomorrow night!!! I will post a short update in a while. At least there have been no major surprises weatherwise during this…

  19. Oh no. I heard one report this morning that said Easter would be dry and mid-60s. Is that no longer true?? BZ has rain in afternoon and 54

  20. Thursday and Friday looks like good car washing weather! The weekend looks to be unsettled.

  21. Red Sox beat Oakland 5-3 this afternoon! They really need a long “winning” streak to get back into things and go .500 (at least) in Anaheim this weekend. A tall order, but it must be done somehow.

I have a good feeling about Easter Sunday morning at least. There will probably be increasing clouds with time, but any rain should hold off most of the daylight hours. Will see what TK says later. 🙂

  22. That cluster of thunderstorms in eastern NY is going to be obliterated by the marine air it is moving toward.

  23. Just too cool to allow any type of development right now. Everyone at my work is begging me for nice weather, but I keep trying to tell last year was an anomaly!!

    1. Didn’t last yr we had flooding rains in April and May? I think last year and this year have been similar, no snow
