Warm Front Cold Front

7:31AM

SUMMARY…
Low pressure passes north of New England today, first dragging a warm front across the region with areas of showers through midday, followed by a cold front with an additional shower or thunderstorm possible in some areas at the end of the day or this evening. High pressure approaches as low pressure moves away Wednesday and the air flow between them will generate a gusty breeze, and upper level low pressure still crossing the region will promote some diurnal cloud development, though overall it will be a nice day! Even nicer weather Thursday will result from high pressure moving in. A weak disturbance may bring a few showers as it swings through from west to east on Friday. High pressure returns for a good portion of the Memorial Day Weekend, however a front may be in the vicinity for part of Sunday night or Monday preventing perfection. Despite wishes of good weather as we head into the first long weekend of the warm season or the unofficial start of Summer, we are in need of rain as it has been quite dry. Other than what falls today in spotty areas, not much is expected any time soon.

  1. Thanks tk 🙂
Just waiting for the downpour to move through. Didn’t expect the rain to be this heavy but good for lawns. I’d guess about .10 so far 🙂

  2. Good morning and thank you TK.

Barely a drop around these parts so far. Just barely enough to dampen the roads this morning. Nothing now.

    We shall see.

Eric said .37 inches for Boston. Hmmm Perhaps later?????

  3. Our yard was supposed to get its spring cleaning today. Been raining all morning. I will wait a day or two for cleaning as the rain is more than welcome.

  4. My weather station says .16″ here in Wrentham so far. Sounds about right. Not too much. Better than nothing though I guess. Looks like our last rain for a week or so as well.

    1. .12 framingham

Kraft speaking at 1:00 if anyone interested. I’m at hosp for a test so if you take notes Id love it 😆

  5. Kraft is a fool for giving up a fool !!!!!! Who cares
What the 32 other teams think. Do you have
Something to hide Mr Kraft, than why throw in the towel.

    1. Maybe and maybe not, John. If he didn’t have some assurance on Brady’s behalf and tossed it in, then maybe. Let’s let it play out. I figure there are three outcomes now.

      1. Union tweeted brady is going to continue
The fight and if he didn’t do it he damn well should . Stick it up there — Brady !!!!!

          1. IMO Kraft really hurt Brady’s appeal case. First, Belichick throws Brady under the bus during his initial press conference, now Kraft is essentially doing the same thing. By Kraft accepting the NFL’s punishment he is accepting some level of guilt (enough guilt to warrant 1st and 4th round draft picks and $1 mil fine. So where does that leave Brady? The team had gone out of its way to vehemently deny any wrong doing and basically spit on the Wells report yet they accept all punishment with no real fight? It’s like a child yelling and screaming bc they got grounded and then saying sorry and accepting punishment (although the Pats never said sorry). Brady hasn’t a leg to stand on now. He’s been deflated by his gutless owner.

              1. It doesn’t. There’s more “evidence” against Brady than there is against the team.

              2. Let me say, i think Brady did something and should be punished. I’m not bothered by the fact the team is getting punished. I’m bothered by the flip flipping this team has done. If you are going to come out and deny deny deny and you think you’re 100% innocent, THAN FIGHT! Let’s face it, to pats fans this thing will be over and forgotten by training camp, but to the 31 other teams and 95% of the population, this team’s legacy is tarnished already, so why not go out with a bang and screw em all

                1. You are a fan and this whole thing stinks. You have a right to be heated. Me — the one who doesn’t possess and ounce of patience — has decided to wait this out. I really think if Brady does go forward, Kraft did this for him.

    2. I respectfully disagree John.

Though I think the Patriots themselves have a case to appeal and decisions should be made on merits of things, unfortunately public sentiment matters.

The Patriots would have been crushed perception wise if they had tried to have backroom dialogue to work something out with the league.

Right or wrong, I think this allows an easier opportunity to get Brady’s suspension reduced or all together eliminated because the league will still be able to say publicly that it heavily penalized the Patriots.

But, if the Pats were fighting their penalties, I believe it would have been harder for Brady in his appeal.

I think Robert Kraft had been making poor choices recently (such as the context report), but, in my opinion, I think what he did today is a smart, smart decision.

      1. I know it sounds crazy, but I’d rather lose Brady for 4 games than a 1st round draft pick. This team has always been so obsessed with making decisions based on the longer term. That’s two 1st round draft picks lost due to this team’s arrogance.

        1. Although I do not agree, I am not thinking of the 1st round or Brady. I am thinking of Brady’s reputation. If this entire thing is as bogus as it appears (and there is always room for that to be incorrect), then the rep of one of the best QBs in NFL history is ruined over nonsense. As a fan, I want Brady protected. He’s give us his all.

      2. Tom exactly how I view it.

        I figure three things

        1) Kraft did this knowing that it Brady would have either some of all four games lifted.

        2) Kraft did this hoping ….see #1

        3) The league has something we don’t know

If it is 2 then Kraft is a bigger fool than I thought. If Brady goes forward, I think that eliminates #3.

The Pats had nothing to gain by pursuing and perhaps a lot to lose for the exact reason you gave, Tom. It is Brady who loses. I will trust Kraft to be protecting Brady’s rep until I am proven otherwise.

  6. Was at Newton Wellesley and it appeared to be trying to clear. Back in Framingham it is still very overcast.

  7. Is it me or did the GFS make a subtle little shift around and just after Memorial Day on its 12z run.

Seemed for a few days prior, that as the warm air was returning during the Memorial Day Weekend, it never really seemed to push the warm sector through and the boundary kind of stalled near us …..

With this 12z GFS run, it seems like it DOES surge the warm sector through and keeps the boundary north of New England late during the weekend and into the start of next week.

      1. Good point regarding the lack of sun Vicki.

Based on the visible satellite I’m looking at, perhaps you might see some sun in about an hour.

Maybe it will make it to Marshfield by sunset. 🙂 🙂 🙂

        1. Thanks, Tom. I thought it was starting to brighten right after I made that comment but nope.

  8. The breaks are struggling to appear here in eastern areas. Juiced up lower levels but not enough to create precipitation other than the synoptic band that went by, which was generated in mid levels.

  9. In Sudbury we have had bouts of bright sunshine and dim sunshine to no sunshine. Right now we have some dim sunshine through a lot of clouds and a few peeks of blue sky.

    1. There is this giant orb of gas undergoing a nuclear process that gives off insane amounts of light and heat. The miniscule 0.33 inch of rain which will wet down the top soil briefly will evaporate and be long gone by tomorrow and the long term dry conditions will continue to be a problem, including the enhancement of fire danger. You need prolonged rain to eliminate dry topsoil and mitigate brush fire risk. We have not had that in a long time.

      1. Thanks TK. The rain we had didn’t even wet anything under tree overhang. It was pretty useless. Lawn is already dry as is road, etc. Sudbury river has dropped considerably in last few days alone.

        1. Imagine what the conditions would be like if we didn’t have 110″+ of snow this past winter.

            1. Well so much for my “less than 0.10 inch”. At least the reverse psychology got them a bit more. 😉

  10. This rain today will go along way for the lawns especially when being taken cared of. If your not, your lawn will not look so good.

    1. I would not say we did a whole lot for the deficit today, even in the southeast where it was a little wetter.

    2. Charlie, surprised you took the day off when way back when you were liming and fertilizing when there was snow

  11. Greetings. Mobile again innewton this time.
Sunny here and really nice. Too little too late.

Still trying to wrap my head around what
Kraft said today. Wondering who or what
    Got to him?????

Hopefully there is a deal and brady’s suspension
Is reduced or eliminated, else what the bleep

    Is kraft doing??????

      1. Agreed.
I can’t figure it out. Very strange.
        Weei poll hsd 87% disagreeing
        With kraft.

        1. Am I able to post on this blog
          From my smart phone?
I rest my case and am I
          Ever bullshit!!!!

  12. First severe thunderstorm warning of the warm weather season here in CT. Storm looks to miss me just to the east on its present track.

      1. Thanks Tom. They sure do.
Pretty impressive, but they die long
        Before reaching the coast.

    1. Wow you are literally just outside of SE side. But there is a line behind that seems to be intensifying as it comes from NY to CT and SW MA.

  13. There are couple thunderstorms on the southeast heading into northwest CT. One has a warning the one that looks to just miss me to the east.

  14. Pretty neat ….

Albany’s dew point dropped 12F in 1 hr, from 61 to 49 and they now have a gusty NW wind.

Those storms are in an area with the best “warmth” relatively speaking. Generally near 70F.

  15. As expected we have a brief fire-up of storms in southwestern New England. The cells in CT have a right-moving tendency and these types of cells tend to be severe. They can look like they may miss you just to the north and suddenly you’re getting nailed when they redevelop continuously just to the right of their apparent path.

Outflow from these storms and an earlier boundary from the north may collide to fire up a storm or two in central MA by 9PM but all activity will weaken while it heads east. Boston area sees showers and maybe a thunder rumble later tonight.

    1. Thanks TK ……

The western MA cell on the Taunton radar looks to have a small purple shading in the center of it. As part of its warning, they mention some damaging hail.

        1. My long term memory is not my strong point 🙂 :), but I dont recall seeing the purple shaded echo often on the Taunton radar.

  16. We had the sun come out here and I often say on days like today with a front coming through that is self destructing sunshine. Thankfully were losing the daytime heating as these storms are moving in which should knock down the intensity of some of these storms.

  17. The other part of the US with severe storms tonight is just west of Dallas.

    4 current tornado warnings.

  18. I think I see rotation on the storm west
Of springfield. Hard to tell for sure while
    Mobile. Looks to be decent
    Hope there is no touchdown.

    1. Old Salty that storm moving into northern Litchfield County the second one being warned the radar WFSB was using
showed some shear markers which were yellow meaning rotation in clouds. There could be some rotation in the clouds
      with that storm you mentioned.

  19. Tom I actually saw a flash of lightning in the distance a few minutes ago. The second warned storm here in Litchfield County looks to be the more impressive storm. That storm looks to stay on east heading. The first warned storm moving southeast.

  20. I don’t know if it’s my radar but I’m seeing a fair amount of purple. Storms in MA are heading southeast correct?? Sure is holding its own with the sun set. JJ just north of you…..so far

    1. Thanks JJ. The southern part of that line, although there is no warning with it, appears to be headed your way if it holds together.

  21. Vicki that storm did have a warning. It is no longer being warned and has missed me to the east. I did see a few flashes of lightning but that is it.

  22. Some of the short range guidance that typically does a decent job with convection shows a brief flare of storms in west central MA this hour, which we should see. It makes it look a little more threatening for eastern MA. HOWEVER, I think once this area approaches the enters the 495 belt it will start to weaken and dissipate. A couple stronger cells may try to survive.

    1. Saw that TK. Thank you. Was so busy watching ct I almost missed. I did leave blind open enuf to see just in case.

  23. The best support is obviously in central to southwestern CT but can’t say this is really a surprise. The trend in the short range guidance was always for this.

The stuff to the north in MA is doing just about as the very short range guidance said. I have broken stratus clouds now from south to north and this is coming right out of RI where the marine air never left. This is a sign of doom for those storms when they try to come east.

  24. So now that the weather behaved pretty much as expected today, it’s time to post a new blog. Oh wait, it’s already posted!
