Monday Forecast

7:35AM

DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 30-DECEMBER 4)…
This last day of November will be colder than any of the first several days of December, as we remain in an overall mild regime despite periods of colder weather at times. The only unsettled weather to speak of during this period will consist of a few very light snow showers off the ocean mainly over southeastern MA this morning and midday as ocean moisture in a light northeast to east wind carries lots of clouds over eastern MA and southeastern NH, less so in RI and interior areas of MA and southern NH, though they will see some cloudiness as well. The other unsettled period will be later Tuesday and Wednesday as a disturbance approaches, its parent low tracking north of southern New England, but a new low forming on its warm front just to the south late Tuesday and moving out to sea while most of the wet weather comes from its slow-moving cold front which will spawn another low pressure wave on Wednesday. Overall, this system will not produce very beneficial rain to help the long-term drought issue. Drier weather returns Thursday and continues Friday as the lows move away and high pressure builds in.
TODAY: Partly sunny to mostly cloudy. Scattered light snow showers mainly southeastern MA into midday. Highs 35-42. Wind NE to E 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy to mostly clear. Lows in the 20s. Wind light variable.
TUESDAY: Increasing clouds. Rain possible in the afternoon near the South Coast. Highs 38-45. Wind light SE.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Periods of rain. Lows 35-41. Wind E 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Cloudy. Periods of rain. Highs 45-52 interior MA and southern NH, 50-57 coastal MA and RI. Wind SE to S 10-20 MPH becoming variable to N late in the day.
THURSDAY: Partly cloudy and windy. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the 40s.
FRIDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 40s.

DAYS 6-10 (DECEMBER 5-9)…
Fair and milder December 5-6. Unsettled weather possible at times December 7-9, very likely in the form of rain as it will continue rather mild.

DAYS 11-15 (DECEMBER 10-14)…
Mostly dry to start and end the period with some additional wet weather possible mid period. Temperatures generally above normal.

  1. Thanks TK !

I think I saw the Pats – Texans game has been flexed to perhaps a night game. I hope I saw that wrong !!!!

    1. Nope that’s right Tom. I was so excited that last night was the last night game or so I thought. Well another week and another key injury , what gives .

      1. It is football, SSK. More important, it is life. Win or lose, they are setting an amazing example of how to continue no matter what. I guarantee there is no other team in the league who could set that same example as well as our Pats.

  2. My football commentary which is basically an updated repeat of what I said before…

A healthier team heading into the playoffs is more important than an undefeated season. People can whine about the refs and I do agree they did blow a few calls. But they also did not blow a few calls in which penalties were committed, and that very likely impacted the outcome. That said, it’s ONE game, ONE loss. It’s not going to knock them out of contention, and if I know Brady and company, the loss will be used as motivation, regardless of the injury situation, to move ahead stronger than ever in whatever capacity they can do that. We shall see how it goes from here. There’s a bit of unpredictability here, just like with the weather. 😉

      1. 🙂

Well don’t give me that much praise. You don’t ALWAYS agree with my views on some things. 😉

  3. Good morning, I think.
    And thank you TK.

Clouds a bit too thin and broken around here for snow showers. Perhaps it will
    thicken up?

    re: the Game
I agree with all said above, but I’ll comment anyway.

    Loss was due to:

    1. Butter Fingers Harper the GOAT!!!!
    2. Piss-poor officiating
    3. Not having Edelman, Lewis and Amendola on the field
    4. Loss of Gronk near the end of the game
    5. The defense was gassed in the later stages of the game due to the altitude and not
    being acclimated.
    6. Although Chandler finally caught a few, he still has cement hands and missed too
    many.

Brady showed us something with that drive to the tying field goal. I told my wife
for OT if we go 3 and out, GAME OVER! And, of course, that is exactly what happened. By the end of the game, the Pats D was so gassed, they couldn’t stop
    my GrandMother!!!!!

Am I bitter? yeah I AM! That SHOULD have been a win. I also know that in the grand scheme of things, it matters not a single bit. So what? It still should have been a WIN.

    1. The best moisture feed is south of you and by the time the wind veers more southeasterly enough to bring it your way, the feed will thin out and be mostly insufficient. Outside shot at a few flakes.

  4. Thanks, TK.

While I agree with what you said above regarding the game and the Patriots, the league shouldn’t get too complacent about the officiating. Nor should fans of any team. Officiating should not be what we talk about on Monday mornings. Officials are too `visible,’ too unsure of league rules, and too inconsistent. In sum, officiating has become structurally awful as the game has gotten more complex. The Patriots suffered as a result. Last week, among other really horrendous calls the inadvertent whistle. This week several inexplicably bad calls (penalties against the Patriots). Furthermore, it may not be a coincidence that the Patriots have 9 offensive pass interference calls (9!), more than any other team in the league. That’s a bizarre statistic. Offensive pass interference should be an anomaly and not an almost once a game thing.

The Pats played well last night, given their injuries. They controlled the game until Harper’s stupid miscue (let the ball go – it’s snowing, slippery, you’ve got a 14 point lead). Amazingly. Brady looked very sharp in spite of having a thin receiving crew. In some ways I think this was Brady at his best. Then, a couple of bad breaks hurt them (Denver coughed up two balls which they somehow recovered, and they had the fortune of Chung not making an interception on the ball that bounced off of Davis (or maybe it was Thomas).

      1. Yes, I do as well. Want to hear it?

PAYOLA from the MOB! There I said it!!

What do you think of that?

Alternate theory, PAYOLA from the NFL and GOODELL to GET THE PATS!

There I’ve said another one. Like that one?

Perhaps Both and the Mob is paying off Goodell!

Think I am bitter????? Ya think???????

  5. Off and on flurries …….

Harper catches the punt at 21-7 in the 4th quarter, the officials aren’t in question, the comeback and perhaps Gronk’s injury don’t happen.

    1. True. Bad conditions to field a punt: 24F, snow, slippery. Harper actually did a better job than the Denver punt returner later in the 4th. Harper booted it for sure, but the Denver punt returner wasn’t even close to catching it. Yet, the breaks went Denver’s way. I do think that in those conditions and with a 21-7 lead, there is no need to make a fair catch or any kind of catch. Let the ball go. Worst case scenario you have the ball at your own 15 or 20, say. You need to play risk-free possession football at that point. So, yes, I will blame Patriots’ coaches a little on the Harper return. And also, I was shocked at how easily the Broncos scored the late 4th quarter touchdown. The call on Chung was ridiculous. But, the Broncos should not have been in that position. Coverage downfield was poor. Give them the underneath stuff, but make sure you take away the deep threat. These were rare mistakes by Patriot coaches, in my view.

      1. Agree, that ball should have been let go.

However, I don’t care what the conditions were, that was an EASY catch. A 3rd grade school kid routinely makes that catch.
I don’t care if it’s cold and snowing. Doesn’t matter.

        Harper = GOAT!!!

  6. Agree on all the game commentary. In particular, yeah the officials had a couple questionable calls towards the end, but if Harper just catches that punt the game is over there. And agree with JP Dave that towards the end, the defense was just gassed. They played a great first three quarters, really kept us in control, but couldn’t hang in towards the end. Still have a lot of hope though. The undefeated season means nothing, although it’s disappointing because they really should’ve won that game. I don’t think there’s a team in the league that could beat us if everyone was healthy. Hopefully by the playoffs we have enough pieces back to be dominant again. Looks like Gronk’s injury is minor, thankfully, and we should get Edleman and Amandola back in time. Need Collins back too, although I fear he won’t be the same. Apparently he lost quite a bit of weight and strength.

Enjoying the cooler weather this morning 🙂

    1. re: Gronk’s injury

I keep hearing that it “may” not be as bad as originally thought.

      My commentary on that:

Gronk is a tough guy. He was writhing in pain and I mean writhing.

verb (used without object), writhed, writhing.
      1.
to twist the body about, or squirm, as in pain, violent effort, etc.
      2.
to shrink mentally, as in acute discomfort.
verb (used with object), writhed, writhing.
      3.
to twist or bend out of shape or position; distort; contort.
      4.
to twist (oneself, the body, etc.) about, as in pain.
      noun
      5.
a writhing movement; a twisting of the body, as in pain.

      That pain was consistent with:

      Torn ACL
      Torn MCL
      Broken Bone

Since he was able to walk with a limp, I think it eliminates a broken
bone (not necessarily though), which leads to MCL or ACL.

It was NOT consistent with a sprain or even a bad sprain.

Believe me I sincerely hope it is just a sprain and we rest the Gronkman
      for a few weeks.

But with that kind of pain, I FEAR the worse.

Look when Dion Lewis went down, we had the same reports that it wasn’t
as bad as feared. And what was it? A torn ACL.

Do not be surprised if this ends up being either an MCL or ACL.
Either way, Gronk would be done until next year.

      1. Unfortunately, I agree. I don’t see Gronk playing much the rest of the year.

The Patriots’ injuries have been as devastating as I can recall. A good portion of the offensive line, Collins, Hightower, Lewis, Edelman, Amendola, Gronkowski, Dobson. When Chandler (rather slow-footed guy with unsure hands) is your wide-out on at least 5 plays during the game, you’re in big trouble.

      2. With the late hit on Brady…which looked a tad suspicious…..I was worried it was Brady they wanted to take out.

Brady did say he felt the hit on Gronk was not a nasty hit. Convenient for the other teams perhaps.

I’m not a skeptical person typically. When it comes to the NFL, all bets are off IMHO.

  7. I know all to well this season being a Cowboys fan with injuries.
What is amazing were only two games out of first at 3-8 with two games still to play against the Redskins. Its a very very low chance of us winning the NFC East but there is a chance.
I see the Cowboys chances of winning the NFC East as the same chance of there being a White Christmas this year. I hope I am wrong with both.

    1. JJ, I feel your pain. You’re a loyal trooper, because if I were a fan I would have abandoned ship. The Cowboys have issues that go well beyond injuries. They may have the worse coaching staff in the NFL. A lot of selfish players, some of whom are bad people, too. A terrible owner. Storied franchise, for sure. But most of the stories occurred many moons ago when the Cowboys were fun to watch, innovative, personable, and well-coached.

  8. Joshua were going to have to draft a QB I think sooner rather than later. Ideally if we could get someone like an Aaron Rogers out of college to be groomed just like he was with Favre we would be in good shape with that position. Greg Hardy is a good defensive player but too much baggage. I would not bring him back.
They did a good job building the offensive line. As far as Jerry Jones a great business man but terrible at building a football team and some of the people he brought in like Greg Hardy Terrell Owens to name a few leave you scratching your head.

  9. I had a feeling about the bronco’s game. Thought someone important was going to get hurt.

    My view point
    1. its a loss it sucks, but all teams loose. Heck the pats were 2-2 last year 😉
    2. Patriots defense showed they could keep the pats in games
3 Bill should have brought the patriots out earlier to get use to the high altitude
4 Not having the top 3 targets hurt the patriots but saw something we have not seen for a while. deep throws down the field, most of which if the recievers caught the balls or the reffs didn’t mess with it would have won the games.
5 refs sucked, where the penalties for the bronco’s false starts, late hits, hold, face masks. refs should be fired
6 the pats are still first in the afc conference. Pats need to win out to keep it though, they very well can, especially do to the patriots defense playing so well. the stats last night might look ugly but you have to look at what happened.
7 When the pats get in the playoffs, best thing possible is having that bye. Patriots could very well be seeing a healthy Amondola Edelman and gronk all back for when it matters most.

8 with the gronk injury, I have a feeling he has a sprained MCL…. Due to the fact of how much pain he was in and then was able to walk with no limp. trust me i know an mcl sprain, I had it before, sucked. He be out for a few weeks if that is the case, if not its a torn acl and we might not be just talking about him missing the rest of the season, might be his entire nfl career being over.
9 as it stand right now, the colts would be coming back to new england 😉

    1. Thank you Matt for the Good news. So my understanding is that the MRI
showed NO structual damage. That is outstanding news.

      re: Gronk Writhing in Pain.
My wife had an interesting take on this. Although, she was sure he was in pain, she felt that perhaps all of the rolling around was due to his DISGUST
at being injured again and not necessarily the degree of pain. Now that
we know the results, I think she may be correct.

      1. I agree with Mrs OS….or is she better known as Mrs. JPDave?

I thought he was slamming the ground in frustration and not moving in pain.

  10. Unofficial report gronk may miss one game but also may not miss any games according to sources . Personally and can play Sunday I would sit him and let him rest

  11. If I am not mistaken, one of the announcers pointed out that Gronk leads the league in penalties for tight ends. He has been getting flagged a lot lately even if he is not involved in the play. I hope that when Gronk is able to play again that he limits even incidental contact with a defensive player from now on. I would think that BB will work with him on that in future practices.

I would be curious if tight ends on other teams have been making the same type of “contact” with defensive players but are not being flagged. Hmmm…

    1. Gronk will NOT play in Sunday’s game. Just as well as he needs time to heal properly. I say save him for the playoffs for now.

    2. Philip…son in law is my go to person for football. I am sure I drive folks crazy saying that but I truly do not know anyone who has talked with him who would not say the same. He is also impartial considering he is a pats fan. He said you hit the nail on the head and that others are not paid attention to like they pay attention to gronk.

    3. I would only add, and will be the only thing I will say on this past weeks preparation, and game. They have had refs at 1 practice per week working on this, and the refs have said in practice that what they called a penalty in that game, was not a penalty in practice ref’d game. As tom Brady said in his post game press conference when asked about this, he said basically they don’t know what to say, and calling these penalties complete bogus, kinda like the phantom Chung holding call, complete horse bleep. That’s it, I don’t like talking football on here, so that’s all my input. 🙂

  12. Thanks tk 🙂

Is there another shot of 60 later next week tk? It looks like we get wetter around here the next couple weeks, and most days in and around 50+ degrees. Would you concur? Thank you!! 🙂

    1. Still a dry pattern overall. After Wed next rain chance may be almost a week later.

There is a shot at 60 by next Sunday.

  13. Dr.Cohen’s blog is out.

He may be hedging some. Take a look:

If the energy transfer is not sufficiently strong over the next month or so to weaken the polar vortex, then the winter AO is likely to average positive in the mean and a mild weather pattern will dominate the md-latitude continents this upcoming winter. This is especially true across North America where an El Niño driven southern Jet Stream will flood North America with mild Pacific air.
