DAYS 1-5 (DECEMBER 1-5)…
An unsettled period will begin Meteorological winter today and Wednesday as a disturbance approaches, its parent low tracking north of southern New England, but a new low forming on its warm front just to the south late today and moving out to sea while most of the wet weather comes from its slow-moving cold front which will spawn another low pressure wave on Wednesday that will send additional wet weather into the region. Drier weather returns Thursday though a few instability rain showers are possible as a trough passes. High pressure will bring fair weather Friday and Saturday.

  1. “Now the First of December was covered with snow.
And so was the turnpike from Stockbridge to Boston.
    Now the Berkshires seem dream-like on account of that frostin’;
With 10 miles behind me, and 10,000 more to go.”

Great song by James Taylor! Leave it him to rhyme frostin’ with Boston!

Happy December and Meteorological Winter, everyone!

    1. That’s on my playlist today along with The Hounds Of Winter by Sting. “I’m as dark as December. I’m as cold as the Man in the Moon.” Listen to that tune of you have never heard it. Dark but beautiful.

  2. Today starts the 1st day of winter in many minds. 90 days till March!! Happy December!! Christmas Eve day is 23 in a half days away!!! Enjoy the day!! 🙂

    1. shut it, i just want this semester to be over and be starting winter break, this semester has been a disaster

  3. Good morning and thank you TK.
Sure doesn’t seem like December. Seems like October to me.
    blah blah blah blah…………..

  5. So there is a chance of a White Christmas despite this overall mild pattern.
TK when are other time periods in coming months where snow is possible?

    1. Any time but it will be hard to pin them down. Just pretty sure we won’t go into a lasting cold/snow regime.

  6. Dreary day. More November-like than December. My go to CD at this time of year is George Winston’s “December.” I think it connects the dots between Thanksgiving and Christmas very well.

On Chris Harper’s release, I’m not sure if I like that move. If it’s based on the ugly mistake he made on the punt I’m really opposed to it. While I think Belichick is an incredibly talented coach, and the Patriots a great team, I find the vindictiveness sometimes too much to bear. For example, the team’s way of dealing with Jonas Gray’s tardiness last year put a sour taste in my mouth.

Well, the Red Sox are now officially no longer your (grand)father’s Red Sox. You know, the days when the team was the last club to have a black on the roster (Pumpsie Green – great name, by the way), or when people of color were a rarity, both on the team and at the park. The Red Sox ownership was notoriously reactionary then. Besides having fewer blacks than other teams, they also had few Hispanic players. Under Duquette a sea change occurred. Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, all welcome. The club hired on merit alone. It did the team and the city a lot of good, I think. And now, with the addition of Chris Young as a 4th outfielder the Sox may at times next year have an all African American outfield, something they’ve never had.

    1. It’s amazing to me the salaries being thrown around in baseball. When does the madness end? What’s the ceiling to these salaries? This sport is going to Price itself out of existence (pun intended).

        1. The issue that I have is that when the Red Sox pay big bucks the player either gets injured soon after the new season starts and never really recovers or just doesn’t do the job PERIOD. Either way the team ends up having to eat the contract and pay the player well after he is ultimately dismissed. Let’s see if Price can get us back to the postseason. It is all we can do for now.

          1. Agree. And I know I have said this a thousand times…maybe more. There was a year Williams was not playing well. He asked the Sox to cut his salary. But it wasn’t just him…the entire era had a completely opposite mindset. They loved the game.

        1. That’s the problem though retrac, people aren’t watching. Aside for a few large markets, ratings for baseball in general have been declining.

  7. Definitely a chance of 4.5 inches of snow this month. Even mild Decembers have produced some snow. While an abundance of cold is nice to have for it to snow, it’s not a prerequisite. According to TK (and others) there are some signs that the latter half of December will be relatively favorable to at least a bit of snow.

On the Price signing, I’m not as comfortable as I would be with a Sonny Gray. I’d rather see the Red Sox go the young route. I actually think their statement from a few years ago regarding not signing 30+ pitchers to long-term deals was smart. Too bad they’ve once again shifted gears and abandoned their stated policy. Besides age, what worries me a lot about Price is his track record in the post-season.
