Saturday Forecast

8:52AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 19-23)
A warm front approaches today and eventually brings wet weather to the region from southwest to northeast. As its parent low passes north of New England on its eastward path, it will drag a cold front through the region on Sunday with some additional shower activity expected. High pressure builds in for a nice late May day on Monday before the next disturbance returns a chance of some wet weather by Tuesday. Detailed forecast…
TODAY: Thickening overcast. Rain arriving southwest to northeast late morning through mid afternoon then tapering to drizzle/showers late. Highs 55-60 coast, 60-65 interior. Wind E 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Areas of fog. Patchy drizzle and isolated showers. Lows 53-58 early then temperatures slowly rising to 60-65 late. Wind shifting to S then SW up to 10 MPH.
SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy with patchy fog and isolated showers morning. Partly sunny with passing showers and thunderstorms possible afternoon. Humid. Highs 65-72 coast, 72-78 interior. Wind SW 10-20 MPH, shifting to W late.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Less humid. Lows 52-58. Wind W shifting to NW 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 68-73 South Coast, 74-79 elsewhere. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Lows from the middle to upper 50s. Highs from the middle to upper 60s.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows from the lower to middle 50s. Highs from the upper 60s to middle 70s.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 24-28)
A disturbance passes through with a shower threat May 24 and a front may linger in the area with isolated showers into May 25. A generally dry and warmer Memorial Day Weekend is the early call but will have to watch 2 things that can complicate the forecast, and those are a front that may approach from the north later in the weekend and tropical moisture that may approach from the south by about Memorial Day. This being quite distant, forecast-wise, there is plenty of time to fine-tune this forecast.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 29-JUNE 2)
A little more unsettled with a front and a couple disturbances in the area the last few days of May before fair weather becomes more likely to start June. Temperatures near to slightly above normal but there may be a cooler period especially in coastal locations.

  1. Thanks TK!

I hope those “complications” don’t come into play for Memorial Day Weekend.

    1. It’s very hard to get through 3 days with no “issues” in the spring, but we will see how it turns out.

  2. Dry air held on nicely this morning but the mid levels are now moistening up rapidly and a grey middle cloud deck is going to overtake the sky from southwest to northeast, followed a few hours later by rain. But the early through mid morning – quite nice though cool and a bit breezy.

    1. It is bright partly sunny blue skies here. Will the rain now delay in its departure this evening as well?

      1. Not really. The steadiest is still when it will be. But this evening a lot of drizzle & scattered showers will remain, along with patchy fog.

  3. Thanks TK !

I think Boston’s June 1 high temp average is 72F …. so starting tomorrow, a majority of next week’s high temps will be June like.

Just noting that we have made it to mid May without much of a blocky pattern, featuring one of those 5 to 7 day stretches of ne winds, persistent cloudiness, rainy-drizzly episodes with coastal air temps in the low 40s.

    1. We’ve still had too many cool periods for my taste. Like yesterday and today, I still had to wear my late winter/early spring coat that I usually would have long since put away by now. Not to mention a bit of heat for the late nights/early mornings. I don’t want to want to know what a perlonged blocking pattern would have been like.

  4. J J Watt has said he will pay for the funerals of the victims of the Santa Fe shooting. Among the horror, there is a glimmer of hope.

  5. Tk, what do you think about thursday afternoon/evening, The school for the environment and biology department celebrate with a BBQ and go into the Harbor on a party boat.
Also Do you think Friday will be good by afternoon?

  6. Tom:

I was listening to the Sox game last night when I heard Joe talking about your visit from Joe Kelly and fundraising!!!

    Great job, Tom and FBS!

  7. I have tix for tonight’s game at Fenway – Sammy’s first. Thoughtsbon whether you guys think they’ll play?

Also on a totally non weather related note – my first name is Laurel. After 42 years of hearing “Laurels” when the big moment came I heard….

    Yanny!

    1. I can’t fathom a guess to why anyone could possibly hear Yanny. I listened
to that a dozen times and NEVER heard Yanny. I simply don’t get it.

    2. re; Game going to be tough.

There “may” be a 2-4 hour window where they could squeeze the game in.
Eric thought they could get it in, so I guess we’ll see.

      Best of luck.

      1. About the Yanny Laurel reference or me using JpDave’s fka?

If it’s the former there is an audio clip circulating that is a computer generated voice reading the word “Laurel” but apparently it uses different frequencies so some distinctly hear “Yanny” and some “Laurel.” The chuckle comes in that I hear “Yanny” whereas the only Yanni I know hears “Laurel.”

As for the game – it’s almost 90 minutes in from Harvard so I keep going back and forth on whether to go/not go. With an 8 year old the enjoyment window closes fast after 9pm so if we are going we should go soon. But the radar looks a little green….

            1. i hear yanny, then again I feel like it people make two things to make it seem like an argument.

              1. You may be right. I do hear a VERY clear Laurel on both iPad and iPhone. What is your device Matt

  8. Thank you, TK All in all, not a bad day. This morning turned our fairly nice, in fact.

J.J. Watt seems like a very decent human being. He’s given to many charities, and responds immediately when disaster strikes. It’s too bad his career has been so injury-riddled. I say that because to me he was an awesome defensive presence. He combined size and strength with speed and athleticism.

    1. Oddly, I love the pomp and circumstance….a throw back to what we knew as proper. I didn’t watch but will see some tonight.

  9. A few of the CT State Parks took a major hit from the tornadoes on Tuesday.

This video was taken from Wharton Brook State Park:

And this video is from Sleeping Giant State Park in Hamden (right across the street from Quinnipiac College and what I would consider the best hiking spot in CT):

Pretty incredible and widespread damage. We were very lucky up here in the Hartford area.

  10. Matt… Not too concerned with that Thursday / Friday system. It may end up being more clouds than anything. Will monitor as always.

  11. For the hell of it I picked the entire order of the Preakness before the race.

    7 8 5 6 1 2 3 4 was the pick
    7 8 6 5 2 3 4 1 was the result

    1. Well done. I had picked justify to win but then forgot to watch 🙁

Would love to see a triple crown

      1. Find a reply to watch. It was CLOSE! And the visibility was about 1/8 mile in fog!

        1. I will watch. We are not huge horse racing fans because of the care of horses at lower levels……and I know derby parties are hypocritical. They are more a memory of daughters equestrian years than anything

  12. Mark thanks for the links.
I drove in Southbury and Oxford today and saw the tornado damage. A lot of trees and wires down. Some just fell in people’s yards both other lay up against homes or on the roof. A couple roofs had blue tarp on them. I saw one home in Oxford the trees were surrounding the house. There were some big trees uprooted.
I feel very fortunate as if that was a little further north I would have been in the path. Hopefully this was the worst of the severe weather we see this year.

  13. At least Harry was driving a Jag and not a Vauxhall.
I rented one of those before and it was barely better than a bicycle.

    1. There are positives to small cars. Macs dad and friend overturned a fiat exiting last minute on a ramp in Rome. Got out…turned it over….and drove on 😉

      1. I just remember putting my foot thru the floor on the accelerator and I could only get it up to 50 or so. Going down the M while getting my doors blown off wasn’t great. Thing had zero power.

  14. Another miserable night at Fenway.
Jeeze I hope this mess turns soon. Looks like it might. 70’s next week it appears.

  15. Vicki, to be honest, some of the horses at the lower levels are taken better care of. I have friends that are involved with that stuff, The people at the lower levels tend to have a more personal relation with their animal. In turn they keep their horse win or loose and till the horse dies of natural cause. Of course most of the time the horses at the highest of levels also get love and care.

    1. Before rated show levels….that is accurate. Once you get to the rated shows, all bets are off.

  16. New post! I honestly didn’t do much with it today. No real changes, so it’s a copy/paste/edit of yesterday’s with a short new discussion and a slight re-write of the 6-10 section. 😉 This is as close you’ll ever see me get to a “day off” on WHW. 😛
