Thursday Forecast

7:12AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 31-JUNE 4)
High pressure slowly gives up control of the weather today but in doing so the wind comes around to the south and warms most of the region up from yesterday’s cooler air, although as is typical, south-facing shores will be cooler with this wind flow. We’ll also see clouds eventually win out as moisture increases from the south and southwest, although it may take much of the day for that to occur in some areas. As warm and humid air moves in, a few showers may occur tonight and early Friday but much of Friday will be without a shower threat, and will actually be a sneaky ok beach day if you happen to have the day off (hehe), not totally sunny, but pleasant enough with a sun/cloud mix, higher humidity, and not too much wind. Things change quickly on the weekend as a cold front drops through early Saturday and low pressure forms on it to the south, but it still looks like Canadian high pressure will be strong enough to push all the moisture to the south later Saturday and keep it there through Monday, despite some guidance bringing rain back as early as Monday. I’m staying with the scenario from yesterday’s forecast at this time. Details…
TODAY: Sun followed by clouds. Highs 68-75 coast, 75-82 inland. Wind light SE to S.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. A passing shower possible. Patchy fog. Lows 55-62. Wind light S.
FRIDAY: Partly sunny. Isolated showers/thunderstorms late in the day. Humid. Highs 73-78 coast, 78-83 interior. Wind light S to SW increasing to 10-15 MPH late in the day.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. Humid. Lows 63-68. Wind SW 5-15 MPH shifting to N overnight.
SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy. Showers likely in the morning. Highs 68-73 in the morning but may fall slowly in the afternoon. Wind light N to NE.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 50s. Highs from the middle 60s to lower 70s.
MONDAY: Partly sunny. Lows in the 50s. Highs from the upper 60s to middle 70s.

DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 5-9)
Clouds come back including a rain threat sometime during the June 5-6 period before drier weather returns. May have to watch moisture to the south yet again late in the period. Temperatures below normal.

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 10-14)
One or two period of unsettled weather as the region sits in a battle ground between lingering cool air in Canada and building warmth to the south with the cooler side probably being dominant here.

    1. Before 8AM & after 3PM in general. I wouldn’t cancel any plans. That beach day I referred to? Mine. I don’t even care if the sun never comes out. I’m just going to go there. Hampton. Love that place. πŸ™‚

      1. You really like that place.

I have only been there a few times. 4 Social Distortion
concerts at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom
and twice for an after hours poker game at someone’s house
just off the beach. I have never been there during daylight hours. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ Looks like a really nice beach and destination, although the water is too damn cold for my taste. (yes, but I have been in the water in Maine at York beach and at Ogunquit. Also have been in 53 water at Nauset beach. ALL too cold for me. I prefer 65 or higher and preferably 70 or higher)

  1. Thanks TK !

Amazing, what was Alberto made it all the way to the US/Canadian border with the circulation pretty much intact.

It also brought the 70F dewpoints that far north as well.

  2. As far as a spinny system looking tropical all the way across the US (south to north), that may have to do with it feeding on warmth & moisture starting a thousand or so feet above the ground, essentially ignoring anything under that, much like semi-elevated convection.

    1. I did not and thank you for sharing. Awesome catch!!! That kid will NEVER
forget that one. Where they are standing is literally a few hundred feet
      from my house. πŸ˜€

        1. My wife keeps asking me why I won’t fish there.

I don’t have a really good or sane reason, but it is mainly because the few times I fished there in the past, I NEVER
caught a damn thing and I can’t tolerate that in the slightest.

When my daughter was young, I took her down there
and rigged her up with a live night crawler and told
her where to cast the line and wham! She caught a nice
large mouthed Bass as onlookers were in shock.

But every time I tried thereafter nothing.

One time about 10 years ago or so, I was casting
one of my special lures along side of the boathouse
dock and a very big large mouth bass made a pass at it.
That was about it. Not a single fish.

I am not a patient person, so when I fish, I need the action, thus I go where I am more likely to catch
          fish.

  3. Good morning and thank you TK.

Beautiful weather around these parts always seems to come at a price.
TK, please do you best that Mother Nature does not extract a pound of flesh from
each of us. πŸ˜€ Push that front well to the South so it will at least be Sunny on Sunday, albeit quite cool.

  4. TK,

Thanks for the timing on the showers for tomorrow. A couple of people in my office have to pick up an an ice cream cake tomorrow afternoon. They will be walking down Boylston St with it.

  5. Thanks, TK. You do a great job. It’s admirable, given how many voices enter each and every discussion, whether weather-related or not. It’s a tribute to your hard work that there are so many voices on this blog. While I do want personal attacks to cease and desist, I do not want anyone kicked off the blog. I appreciate all who post, even if I have strong disagreements with some on issues ranging from climate change to seasonal preference to how I view people. When it gets too edgy for me I simply retreat for a while. I’m under no obligation to post or not to post.

  6. I’m not sure when saying someone was annoying is now considered a “personal attack”. That’s baloney.

And there are plenty of other instances where people on this blog who lean to the other side of the climate change issue as I do come on here and throw around the GD word, and generally “attack” others who hold dissimilar opinion. I never ever see him called out on it, ever. Methinks it has to do with how most people who post out here lean, but ok, I can deal with that.

Now I know for a fact that others on here find certain individuals annoying. One of the vocal ones yesterday voicing an opinion I was a troll has made the observation that certain people are annoying as well. And no, it was not made on this forum. I’ll leave it at that. You know who you are, so I wont call you out.

Bottom line is yes some of you are extremely annoying and dare I say a PITA. I am too at times.
How many of you find/found it annoying when we are told time and again, we cant have an opinion on sports, politics, etc etc, because we “don’t have enough information on the subject” and get chastised? Did that make you mad? It did me. I finally had enough of the passive aggressive behavior and the straw man arguments, etc. But saying someone is annoying is not a personal attack. Have we really gone that soft? A personal attack, really?

I’m sure that there are times many of you wanted to tell an individual (not just the one I told, but others as well, me included) to MYOB and that they were annoying, but didn’t have the stones to do it. I do, and I did. But that’s just me. If you want to kill me on here for being honest, then so be it. I was called “whiny”. Ok, sure, I can be. We all can. Didn’t hurt my feelings in the least. Was that a “personal attack”? I didn’t take it as such.
If BG wants to kick me off here for having an honest opinion and having the guts to call someone out then so be it. I don’t live for this blog or any other.

    Nuff said.

BTW, nice weather today. hopefully next week wont be as bad as currently depicted.

So did this post make any of you “cringe”?

    1. Tk said move on yesterday, I will respectfully do so after this, we all know who your referring to by Him. Him will gladly talk to you on facebook, just Like him did with charlie. Charlie and him actually had some decent conversations, difference is he had evidence backing him up which him looked at, and countered and as adults respectfully disagreed with one another. If you can back your claims with evidence on climate change then please send them out. Problem is everytime we ask you to show us your data/evidence, you never get back to us. As scientists we look for facts/ evidence, and every project/experiment goes through the scientific method which includes rigorous editing, scientific reviews, etc. Its very hard to get published, I know as I am going through the process now lol.

        1. I haven’t had a chance to moderate. I have a job, take care of my mom, and it’s yard work day. Cleanup comes later. I’m behind my mower right now.

            1. I just think some people are jealous of the tree house and want to tear it down while I’m busy and they skip school. πŸ˜‰

  7. So I see some have chosen to ignore my request to stop…

Effective immediately every comment until further notice will be weather related or will be removed as soon as I or my son can do so.

Move this to email or Facebook…now.

  8. Absolutely beautiful out today. Took a quick ride down to Plymouth Harbor and wished I could just park and spend the rest of the day there.

      1. We would be very comfortable sitting in the window seats at the Pillory Pub having “tea” and watching the boats go by. πŸ™‚

        1. Sighhhhh. You sure live in an area where summer is at its best….especially on a day as perfect weatherwise as today.

  9. Just came in from Lunch. Gorgeous out there. Car thermometer was
reading 83. Warm, but comfortable as far as humidity goes. Yet another 10 day in a long string of 10 rated days.

Wonderful New England weather, although we will have to pay for this really soon. πŸ˜€

  10. More sunshine than I expected today now the clouds are moving in.
What a month here in CT weather wise. A top 5 warmest May on record for inland CT and 4 tornadoes back on May 15th along with a macroburst. As I said a few weeks ago driving around in some of the towns hit by the tornadoes was something to see especially one home in Oxford where the house was surrounded by trees.
TK do you see a pattern during the next three months favorable for severe weather outbreaks of the magnitude we saw here in CT back on May 15?

    1. It’s hard to call those in advance, but I do see a period of WNW flow which is conducive to severe weather in the Northeast. This takes place between 2nd half of June and end of July.

    1. YIKES! I just took a look. ABYSMAL!!!

Oh well, such is life in good ole New England. We’ll survive. We always do and besides, who says the Euro will be correct?

        1. low pressure drags cool air down from canada Monday, with a second area of low pressure reinforcing the cool air wednesday. We are not talking cold for say but we are talking 5 to 10 degrees below normal 850mb temps. the FV3 GFS on tropical tidbits also shows well below normal temps for this period while the operational one shows a mix of above and below normal. euro shows 50s and 60s for highs with chance of rain during the same period of time. We are in a pattern in which we see long periods of cool and wet but we are also greeted with very nice prolonged periods as well.

        1. I am with you Matt. Thanks for the info on what the models are showing. Much appreciated.

  11. I’ll give this audience only because of the pleasure I’m deriving from your stupidity, “Jerry”. I won’t call you your real name here, but since your ip addresses give you away, one more of your feeble attempts to re-enter the blog isn’t going to get you anywhere. Did you think one post under a fake name just to attack a member of the blog was going to get approved? Or does it just make you feel good to type it? If the first is true, that’s sad. If the second is true, I pity you, but only because I am a genuinely good person. I realize that you are in chats “behind the scenes” in an effort to “take down TK and his blog”. Here’s a word of advice, log off Facebook and go back to your video games. They are more “real” than the world you’re living in. Good day.

      1. Sorry about that. Tom took the worst of it in this. I guess
I should have viewed more of the video first.
That’s what I get trying to be funny. Truly sorry.
Please take it down if it is a problem. I meant well by it.

  12. If I have read correctly, Quebec City hit 90F, as well as many areas within a reasonable distance around it.

  13. If anybody wants to email me and discuss the weather, it’s
    bk406@yahoo.com. I like emails. πŸ™‚ bring it.

I agree with Hadi. Abysmal next week. I remember 3 years ago the first couple three days of June was high 40’s, and a raw rain. So not unusual, just highly bothersome.

  14. At this point I’m hoping the potential midweek Nor’easter just bombs out right off the coast and creates enough cold air for a few ice pellets to mix in over the Worcester Hills. The 18z GFS just about makes it happen; 850 temps ~0 to -1C at the peak of it. If it’s gonna be bad, why not go all the way….

  15. Beautiful day again today. I read this blog every single day, and even though I rarely comment, I appreciate everything TK does for us. I also appreciate reading everything everyone has to say about the weather!

  16. I’m going to do my best to go through and clean up the blog this evening. I don’t know how far I’ll get. I’m wiped out. I have been helping someone move for days, finally today after a hellish work day it was time to get the lawn done for the 5th time this month. I mowed it May 1, 7, 14, 21, and 31. That’s the most I’ve ever mowed in May, or probably any month. The growing conditions were perfect with regular rainfall and above normal temperatures consisting of a mix of both very warm and fairly cool days.

As I have been advertising, we do have a cooler regime upcoming, in contrast to how much of May has been. However there is some positive news to do with that. We’re about to break the string of wet weekends because outside of a shower or possible t-storm over southern areas sometime early Saturday our weekend is going to be rain-free. Depending on how fast we can clear things out Saturday we may end up with a fair amount of sun both Saturday and Sunday. Based on current timing, it looks like for a change the wet and coolest of the weather upcoming will take place on work days (Monday through Wednesday of next week). And an early look ahead is for nice weather on the weekend of June 9-10.

    1. Thank you, TK

Like last night, as the sun sets, the air smells wet again if that makes sense. Temp is 71 and dp is up to 63

Slight breeze is back. Just a lovely night

      1. Humidity increase ongoing. We’ll be in the soup starting overnight until early Saturday. Timing is good for me. I love high humidity when I go to the beach and tomorrow is my beach day. Don’t care how sunny it is. Don’t care what the water temp is. Just going to enjoy some time up there. πŸ™‚

          1. I absolutely will. I have had almost no time to myself for the last month…

I think my birthday was the only day I came close to having an entire day, other than the first 3 hours…

  17. Beautiful night…nice breeze. Was down by Hingham harbor earlier enjoying the sunset.

    1. We’ve had such a spectacular stretch of weather. And this time we’re not losing a weekend to foul weather.

  18. Good morning all.
Will there be a T-storm today. SPC has us in general thunderstorm, not severe risk.

Currently 68 with DP 62 here in JP. Still reasonably comfortable for now.
