Tuesday Forecast

7:00AM

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 23-27)
Low pressure drifts slowly away to the east today, and although there will be a slight drying process it will stay generally overcast. A frontal system crosses the region west to east in the early hours of Wednesday with more unsettled weather, followed by some improvement later Wednesday and Thursday as high pressure approaches then moves over the region. The active pattern means the next low pressure system will be quick to move in during Friday with more unsettled weather, and although this should move on out of the area by Saturday, it will do so while intensifying, so the drying weather will also be cool and breezy.
Forecast details…
TODAY: Cloudy. Periods of rain and drizzle, especially in the morning. Highs 53-60 except 60-67 southwestern NH and central MA. Wind NE to N 5-15 MPH, shifting to E later.
TONIGHT: Cloudy. Rain showers likely. Lows 43-50. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy with rain showers early morning, then partly sunny. Highs 59-66. Wind variable becoming W increasing to 10-20 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 40-47. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 63-70, cooler Cape Cod. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY NIGHT: Increasing clouds. Lows 48-55. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy with rain showers. Highs 58-65, coolest Cape Cod. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy with rain showers. Lows 45-52. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy with rain showers early, then sun/cloud mix. Highs 53-60. Wind NW 15-25 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 28-MAY 2)
Lots of transitions as one system moves through with a rain shower threat April 28 followed by a quick shot of fair and cooler weather for April 29, then a warm front lifts through April 30 or May 1 with a warming trend but some additional unsettled weather before the front drops back to the south again with a cool-down. Of course timing is approximate this far in advance.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 3-7)
May end up near a boundary between warm air to the south and lingering Canadian cold, leaving the door open for unsettled weather and an uncertain temperature forecast.

  1. While getting ready for work this morning another 0.02 inch fell bringing the
total as of 8AM to 2.83 inches. And it was raining all the way to the office.
    I shall update later.

  2. Impressive rain event, indeed. We’re paying the price in our building – literally.

Had this been January and snow. I’m just imagining the possibilities. Oh well, it’s fun to dream sometimes.

      1. Thanks, Vicki.

The good news is that none of the units have been impacted by the courtyard flooding, so far. Bad news is the common area has been impacted badly. It’s just a lot of rain for the drains to handle. The waters have receded somewhat. We’ll do a proper assessment soon. Oh well, it’s minor in the grand scheme of things.

          1. I had water in my basement this morning but fortunately none anywhere near the heating and hot water units. Anymore rain had fell, it might have been a different story.

          1. True. I’m just trying to put a `positive’ spin on it. There are so many weather-related catastrophes that occur in almost any given week across our globe. This event is a terrible nuisance, and a financial hit for the building, but it’s not a catastrophe.

Philip, glad you didn’t have more water than you did in the basement. I also checked the boiler room this morning, and it was dry thankfully (it is submerged below the garden/basement level apartments).

            1. I get some water when it rains like
it did yesterday, but it has never been
              enough to cause a problem.

It typically comes in through the bulkhead
stairs to the basement and a little bit
sneaks through the cracks in the field stone foundation.

The 2 furnaces and 2 hot water heaters are all elevated a few inches up from the basement floor, so all is well.

  3. Gorgeous here in Manchester CT. Sunny and 70!

We did not get nearly the amount of rain here in northern CT that you did in Eastern MA. We were in a Charlie hole most of yesterday PM and it didn’t even start raining till nearly 5PM. I forgot to check my rain gauge this AM but the reporting stations and spotters closest to me barely cracked an inch of rain.

Looks like Quincy hit the jackpot with 3.25″ of rain. Here are the spotter reports:

Regardless, it has been yet another very wet month here with over 6″ so far in April and more to come before the month ends.

With all the flooding going on yesterday, we didn’t get to pass along that Mount Mansfield has dropped below 100 inches for the first time since February 15th! Snow continues to melt at a quick rate given temps in the 50s and 60s at summit level and periods of sunshine. #vtwx

  5. If were going to get that warm and hot weather the NWS is favoring I hope we could get some good thunderstorms.
Mark you still have to wait another day to see who your Islanders are going to face. I want to give the advantage to the Islanders since they didn’t have to go to a seventh game like the Caps and Hurricanes and that series has been quite physical.

    1. Carolina is a gritty team but I am rooting for them to win the series. Islanders are 3-1 on the season vs Carolina and 2-2 vs. Washington. Not to mention the Islanders would get home ice advantage if they play Carolina. More importantly the series is going the distance to 7 games so the Islanders will by far be the more rested team regardless who wins. This break has also enabled them to heal from their injuries….I believe Clutterbuck and Mayfield are now cleared to play.

Big game 7 tonight for the Bruins. I would love to see them take down Taveras and the Leafs.

  6. Funny,
That link Mark posted, had Jamaica Plain with 2 83 inch as of 8 AM. Precisely what I posted this morning.

interesting since I did not report that anywhere but here.

    NWS reading this blog???

      1. Unless the co-op observer reads here. They didn’t have Sutton. Sniff. But Uxbridge sounds right

  7. It’s all about the bruins tonight . Nothing like a game 7 in hockey playoff season, nothing .

  8. I’d like to ask for positive thoughts and prayers for our dear friend, Sue. She is in the hospital and will know more tomorrow. Huge hugs and many prayers from me, Sue.

  9. I’m very sorry to hear about Sue. Vicki, please let her know we’re all thinking of her at WHW.

  10. Came home from shopping tonight to find this perched on the front porch railing:

I had to make sure that sucker was gone before my wife would get out of the car.
I approached it and clapped my hands loudly. It wouldn’t budge. I would have grabbed it, but my wife would freak out. Finally I started banging my feet on the porch while YELLING really really loudly. That did the trick as it finally took off and ran around the back of the house.

    Interesting encounter. 🙂 🙂 🙂

        1. It’s only the male turkeys that attack humans. That looks like a female. They are totally harmless. 🙂

          1. I like them, male or female. they don’t bother me in the slightest. I think they are beautiful birds. I think they sense fear in their victims No fear, no attack. Just a theory anyway. as I have had many encounters and they are always afraid of me. Perhaps I have been stupid lucky.
