September Muggies

9:45PM

The muggies are making a comeback, and will not be in a hurry to leave. The disturbance that brought the showers in today, more showers than I anticipated, is also responsible for bringing in the humidity. High pressure offshore will pump warmer air in for Wednesday, with continued humidity. A frontal system will move eastward into the region Wednesday night and Thursday, but stall in the region for a couple days, causing unsettled weather through Saturday. A sliver of high pressure may improve the weather for Sunday. Looking into next week – an unsettled weather pattern may end up the rule yet again. More later…

  1. TK, is it safe to say that it will be all “wet” for the rest of the month? Are these warm, wet summer-like temps continuing into October too?

    1. The pattern is warm/wet into next week, so overall, yes. Expect October to be warmer than normal, but with its share of chilly shots of air, just very brief.

  2. It’s real foggy out this morning – haven’t seen it like this in a long time. But I think the sun will be out soon – I can see it getting brighter.

  3. I was surprised how foggy it was here. Rainshine is right that the sun is beginning to burn it off.

TK – two questions. My son is camping in the Berkshires Friday and Saturday. Will Friday into Saturday be a washout?

Also, husband has a golf tournament next Tuesday in Lakeville. I saw you said chance of showers which I like a whole lot better than the rain Ch 7 is predicting. Do you know this far ahead of time what the chance is?

    Thank you!

    1. Sorry for the late reply…

It certainly looks on the wet side Friday. But Saturday may turn out to be just a mostly cloudy day with very little in the way of rain. Not a complete washout. Even Friday may have its breaks in the rainfall.

As I am looking at things tonight, Monday-Tuesday look wet to me. I started by stating a chance of “showers” due to the uncertainty of forecasting that far out, changed it to a chance of “rain” as I started to feel more confident of organized upper low pressure in the right spot to deliver 2 wet days, and this holds true with my view of the latest trusted guidance.

      1. Thank you very much TK. Looks as if the tournament on Tuesday may be cancelled. I know son will figure out what to do for camping but will be very happy for your input. He said he reads your forecast all of the time but didn’t know how to find the comments. I didn’t realize he hasn’t done much if any blogging. I did explain how and hopefully he’ll post at some point 🙂

  4. TK – Do you think we will get any more 90 degree days this year? I know you say it’s going to be muggy for a long while but I am wondering if any heat will come back. Thanks!

    1. I think we may be done with 90. 80+ is still not completely out of the question into October as we will remain in a fairly warm regime, but expect most days to be far below that level of warmth.

  5. Well my preliminary thoughts on snowfall is no more than 50 inches for Boston. I will give my full outlook in November.
Watch for temperatures in October and November because when they average above normal that tends to lead to a mild winter with below normal snowfall. If they average below normal that tends to lead to a colder and snowier winter.

  6. Last year I believe they were above normal and I was surprised at how much snow happened because 80-85% of the time when you have those two months warmer than normal that tends lead to a mild winter with below normal snowfall. I don’t remember where I read that stat though but its an interesting one.

    1. I have also heard that, I think I saw it in the paper one fall. I believe It was in the patriot ledger when they were giving a winter outlook.

  7. TK, thanks for the Berlin forecast. Everyday was on the money. Was able to wear shorts most of the time. If it weren’t for your forecast, I would have brought clothes that are way to warm. Thanks again!

    1. You’re welcome. Glad you were prepared for the weather! We’re heading into that more uncertain period of the forecast. Why don’t you update me on the itinerary for the final several days and I’ll see about updating the info sometime in the next 24 hours for you.
