DAYS 1-5 (JUNE 14-18)

High pressure will continue to dominate the weather through the next 5 days. Its center to the north initially will continue to result in a general easterly flow, and there should be enough low level moisture for a deck of stratus clouds to roll in from the ocean tonight into Monday morning, at least over eastern sections, especially coastal areas. Most of this should burn off during Monday, however. That’s really the only interruption on a long stretch of fair weather with low humidity and below average temperatures.

TODAY: Partly sunny. Highs 62-67 coast, 67-72 inland. Wind E up to 10 MPH.

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows 49-56. Wind E under 10 MPH.

MONDAY: Mostly cloudy morning. Mostly sunny afternoon. Highs 63-70, coolest coast. Wind E up to 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 48-55. Wind E under 10 MPH.

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 68-75, coolest coast. Wind E up to 10 MPH.

TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 50-57. Wind SE under 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 68-73 coast, 73-78 inland. Wind SE up to 10 MPH.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 53-60. Wind SE under 10 MPH.

THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 70-75 coast, 75-80 inland. Wind SE-S 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 19-23)

High pressure will have shifted to a position east of New England by late in the coming week with an increase in humidity and warmth June 19-21. Generally dry weather is expected overall, but isolated showers may pop up during the June 20-21 weekend with more significant daytime heating occurring. Look for a better chance of showers/thunderstorms June 22 as a front pushes into the region, then drier air arrives for the end of the period.

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 24-28)

A transition to a more zonal (west to east) pattern, but may be marked with a rare episode of wet weather around June 24. Drier weather follows with temperatures warming to more seasonable levels, but significant heat probably not occurring as the ridge axis is likely to be too far west for that.

  1. Thanks TK!

Will Logan see its first 90 next weekend?

We are now officially “abnomaly dry”. Hopefully we won’t be totally “rain free” for the rest of the month.

Have we seen this format before?

  2. Good morning and thank you TK.

After inserting various blog formats over the last couple of weeks
and now seeing this one again. In my mind, this format
is the most superior! I hope this is the final selection. 🙂

    1. I was just going to comment on that. This one does have good potential indeed! I do believe I could live with this one as well.

  3. One other aspect is that this format has all previous posts immediately available at my fingertips on my iPhone. I believe the others mostly only showed them on PC’s.

I would say to keep it. It’s the closest to the 2010 original. 🙂

  4. Twenty-Fourteen has essentially chosen itself as the format to go with as the new semi-permanent. There will be others coming down the road that I don’t have yet to at least look at.

  5. Thank you, TK.

The lack of rain is concerning. Nevertheless, it continues to be a glorious stretch of weather. Energized and feeling fairly well. I know heat and humidity are part of the summer picture. Always are. But, I figure the longer this persists the better.

  6. Thanks TK.

Format: All around, I think it’s the best, and as Philip said, good for both the PC and phone.

Weather: My thoughts are basically the same as TK’s. Dry pattern continues. Quite cool for the season the next couple days, especially considering the Sun will be out. Strong warming trend by later in the week and next weekend, but not to excessive heat levels. Most areas will probably just flirt with 90 a couple times as opposed to a bona fide heat wave.

  7. Good morning and thank you. I agree this is my top format. But then as soon as you saw JPDs post, I’m betting you knew that. Yesterday’s got messy at the end of covid. I had no idea who was replying to who which I can usually figure out. Your comments and mamas were disembodied.

    1. Sorry about choice of last word …..grandson got a spirit box for his birthday so we have been hearing random comments from it for 24 hours 🙂 🙂 🙂

  8. On You Tube, I stumbled across this 1987 movie starring Michael J. Fox and Joan Jett, The Light of Day .

Here is a link to the entire movie. Sound quality is fine and video quality is only fair, but certainly watchable. Some excellent music in this movie and a real tear jerker at the end.

  9. While we are on the topic of movies…and thank you JPD….for anyone who is a hallmark junkie (that’d be me), Love in the Forecast was in last night. Lots of literary license but still I found interesting

  10. Here’s a very happy feel good and almost too sunny instrumental from 1978. And if it’s too sunny, that’s a good thing. You just might need to put on your sun glasses while listening to it.

“Sun Runner” by Bob James, from the album “Touchdown”. Bob James is best known for “Angela”, most popularly known as the theme to the TV show “Taxi”, which happens to be on the very same album as this selection. Enjoy this 6 minutes of sunshine!

    1. Thanks, TK…

When you mentioned Chuck Mangione recently, I listened to some of his music and then turned to the Bob James’ album that you referenced above. I played a number of cuts from it on my college radio shows and used the album “Touchdown” as my soundtrack to my college football scoreboard show on Saturday evenings on WRVU, 91-Rock, “Nashville’s Rock Alternative.”

  11. Speaking of music, I know Keith and a few more are interested in radio. WMEX is back on the air through the efforts of Ed Perry, owner of WATD in Marshfield.

    Here’s the stations’s website link:

    https://959watd.com/1510-wmex-the-greatest-hits-of-all-time/

A few of the notable Boston DJs who are back on the air are: Larry Justice, Joe McMillian and Jimmy Jay. You can listen live from a link on the station’s website.

I vaguely remember WMEX from my childhood, “back in the day” when you got your rock music from AM radio and your transistor radio. I listened to WRKO (680) and WPRO (630) from Providence.

    1. Thank Captain. Yes I believe they are running the oldies format on weekdays only (through 6pm) when they simulcast the WATD signal. I’ve listened quite a bit over the past couple of weeks and I like it a lot. Back in the late 60s and early 70s I was an WMEX, WRKO and WVBF listener (in that order) plus some other stations too. By 1973 I was mostly listening to WBCN.

Also not sure if others have noticed but AMP Radio on 103.3 (WODS) flipped formats and now plays what is sometimes called the “Jack” format. A mix of 80s, 90s and 2000’s with a splattering of 70s and some stuff from today. AMP’s ratings were in the toilet almost from the beginning (why they ever switched from Oldies I’ll never know…but then again Entercom does some strange things) and this format is much better imho.

    2. Thank you also. I looked for this a while ago at Keith’s suggestion and couldn’t find and forgot

  12. I was thinking about the Summer of 1983 and trying to figure out why I couldn’t remember the brutal heat that year. I then remembered that I was in travelling in Europe. But then I remembered that France was also in the middle of one of its worst heat waves of all-time. I remember that there wasn’t much in the way of air conditioning at the time. I went to a midnight movie one night because the cinema had AC.

  13. I was not alive for the summer of 1983 but for my life when it comes to brutal heat summer 2002.

    1. JJ…..I believe your mom was carrying you. That’s why I said your mom. Or am I off a year? Were you born 1984?

  14. Been a while since you have seen my write this. I think the 12z ECMWF is too warm Wed – Fri, particularly Friday. Where is it has widespread 92-98 in SNE. Saturday shows about 30 degree swing from Boston 60s to Worcester 90s.

On the other hand I think it instensifies too fast and hangs to the precip too long around the 24th.

Get your nuanced and well thought out forecasts from real live thinking sources.

    1. What you mean just slapping pretty-looking icons down on boxes based on model forecasts isn’t good enough?! 😉

And I generally agree with your thoughts here. Definitely too warm mid to late week. Thinking if we get back-doored next weekend it’s a little behind that timing. Have felt brief wet weather around the 24th for a few days. We’ll see how that pans. It could be a more widespread rain if the wave somewhere ’round June 22 pulls a front through that then sits just south of here. Let’s watch for that.

      1. Agree on Saturday. I believe right now weekend is dry.. On board with some wet weather 23-24 time range, but at the moment I think about half the amount of precip / half the duration of the current model
        prognostications.

  15. Anybody wanna take bets that NWS’s day 7 high temperature forecast for Boston is about 20 degrees too high? 😉

  16. I can’t recall a stretch like this in mid June with on most days low humidity and on some days highs only in the 60s. It feels like we’re in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Also, I’ve been looking at the weather maps for North America in recent days, and there are quite a number of places in the Northern Tier of the Lower 48 and parts of Southern Canada that have daytime highs in the 50s and 60s. Again, I can’t recall seeing this in mid June.

I do remember a couple of days in the 60s in mid July 2017, but they were the exception.

    1. I don’t either but then at this point I’m having trouble recalling what day it is. I do recall a number of June’s with cool and rainy weather. This to me is lovely. I sat out for a long while chatting with daughter and sister in law with a long sleeve tee and light blanket on legs…wearing shorts. The bunnies were chasing each other all over and quite entertaining. We have not had bunnies but I think after two fights in our yard the fox and groundhog did each other in so maybe no fox equals bunnies

And we have a bear just over two miles from here

      Big night in Sutton. 😉
