  1. Vitamin D may be the key…

According to Dr. Michael Holick, professor of medicine, physiology and biophysics at Boston University School of Medicine a sufficient amount of Vitamin D can cut down the risk of catching the corona virus by 54%.

Dr. Holick and his colleagues studied blood samples from 190,000 Americans from all 50 states and discovered that those who had low levels of vitamin D had 54% higher Covid positivity than those with normal levels of vitamin D in the blood.

Dr. Holick’s study also examined the ZIP codes of people of color and found that patients from predominantly Black and Latino communities had lower levels of vitamin D and were also more likely to have coronavirus than in patients from predominantly white, non-Latino communities.

The average adult needs 2,000 units of vitamin D per day.

Vitamin D (sunlight) saved lives during the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic with open air treatments. The vitamin itself wasn’t discovered until 1932.

      1. I’m surprised that Dr. Fauci hasn’t been touting vitamin D as another way to deal with this virus. Supplements should be flying off store shelves rather than paper towels and toilet paper, not to mention a gazillion other items it seems these days.

          1. I have heard absolutely nothing from the daily radio or tv newscasts regarding vitamins at all. I only got the info I posted from an article in this past Friday’s Boston Herald.

AFAIC the morning and evening national newscasts should really be telling the nation about vitamin D and what foods are best as well as supplements. In the newspaper article it mentions beef, eggs, tuna and fortified milk as good examples.

Vitamin D saved many lives in 1918, why not 2020? Sometimes I wish Dr. Fauci were more forceful. It seems it’s always the president doing all the talking, most of which is pretty much USELESS information imho.

Americans need to adjust their diets, in some cases, significantly, in terms of “addition”, not just quantity.

            1. I’m a bit confused since I was hearing in spring to use D. It’s when I asked my pcp. So it was out there. It does seem that the proof may not be there. And there is a concern for taking too much

  2. Nova Scotia has not had a single case in 2 weeks! And, there are no active cases in the province. I realize NS is relatively rural. But, damn it, why couldn’t any rural state in the U.S. achieve this? Vermont is close, but even there new cases are reported every day, and there are still plenty of active cases and some deaths every month.

Canada has done MUCH better than the U.S. and all European nations. This includes the populous areas. Low numbers of cases, very low death rate, sound and consistent policy.

Unrelated (but kind of related in a certain way), Canada fared MUCH better during the great recession. Canada didn’t have a recession at all. Better regulated, much more stringent rules at banks, coherent policy at the federal, provincial, and local levels.

Coherence and systematic are dirty words in the American English lexicon. I’ve always found this a peculiar attribute in the U.S. It’s almost as if we like turbulence, chaos, and lack of organization.

    1. I think your third paragraph explains well. We are so focused on our freedoms that we really have no clue what freedoms mean. Your last sentence is truth
