  1. Sweden’s policy hasn’t succeeded. It was never a laissez faire policy, contrary to what many asserted. It was and is a virtual lockdown. But, Sweden couldn’t avoid the problems most of the rest of Europe has had (notable exceptions being ALL other Scandinavian countries that have done MUCH better than Sweden, as well as Ireland and a few others).

The contrast between a mensch, a real human, Angela Merkel, and a jerk, and egomaniac, a sociopath, Donald Trump, couldn’t be more evident than in this video. Here, Merkel shows she cares. She puts country over party. She’s authentic.

We have more than 3,100 dead every day, and our President does nothing except a selfish, baseless, seditious attempt to overturn the election in his favor. It’s beyond sick, folks.

    1. Wow. This gives me hope. Thanks Joshua. How are you? Did you have your test?

You are correct that what is happening here is beyond sick. It is an attempt to destroy our democratic process and our country. And it is being done in FULL VIEW with encouragement from politicians on the right and not a word from their constituents.

  2. In the meantime, here in the U.S. there are widespread shortages of ICU beds and PPE’s. Grim, to say the least.

  3. Thanks, Vicki. Yes, I was tested this morning. I’m doing okay. Certainly not sicker than I was earlier in the week. The fever lasted 2 days, from Saturday to Monday. The cough is still there but minor. We’ll see what this is. GI system feels much better today, thank the good lord.

The U.S. situation is very grim, indeed. Pence and others fetishize the vaccine. It is NOT our savior. It is a very useful tool, but we need to do more in terms of mitigation. This is precisely Merkel’s message to the people of Germany. I so wish our leaders could be so honest, so authentic, so direct, so non-egotistical.

I thought Americans were tough. Like the old Chevy ad – “like a rock.” I thought we wouldn’t balk at making small sacrifices to help save lives. I thought we wouldn’t make wearing a mask an issue, when none of us make wearing shoes when entering an establishment an issue (or a shirt and pants, for that matter). I thought we wouldn’t whine like a toddler and demand incessantly things like “I want my Thanksgiving meal with the whole family and I don’t care what you think … I want to do whatever I want, and I don’t care what you think … ”

Well, it turns out I was wrong. To many Americans the world is about “me” and “I” and not about “we.” That’s weak. That’s pathetically weak.

  4. I fear that 2021 will be the same as 2020, nowhere NEAR normal. 🙁

    I predict “back to normal” 2022-early 2023.

    1. I think you’re right about the first third of 2021, but I think that beginning in May we’ll see some major improvement, and from August onward we’ll be returning to normalcy.
