  1. The needle didn’t move one iota during the G7 meeting in terms of changes to international travel policy. The U.S. is completely closed to travel from Canada, the UK, and Europe. The Biden Administration is not reciprocating moves made by several European countries to open up to fully vaccinated Americans (some other European countries have pledged to open up to fully vaccinated Americans later this summer).

While vigilance is important, the inconsistency in policy is glaring. The U.S. is an outlier in that it has ZERO mitigation at this point. Bars, restaurants, concert venues, stadiums, etc … all to capacity. No more masks in most places. No distancing. Yet, it will not allow fully vaccinated foreigners in. I’m totally baffled by the xenophobia. I would understand it IF the U.S. still had mitigation in place. But it doesn’t, and all the variants that the U.S. is afraid of are here already.

    1. Does this mean that you won’t be able to visit your daughter in the UK this summer as planned?

  2. The Zanzibar Tavern, a strip joint in Toronto, now provides COVID-19 vaccines with no appointments necessary.

Very sad imo that vaccine distribution has now come down to even this low.

How is Canada doing overall lately Joshua? Any recent data?

    1. Canada is doing incredibly well in terms of its vaccination campaign. Once flagging, the campaign has picked up speed and then some in the last 6-8 weeks, now surpassing the U.S. in terms of 1st doses given to the population. Canada is still behind the U.S. with respect to the percentage of fully vaccinated, but may soon catch up as there is very little vaccine hesitancy across Canada.

  3. Philip, I don’t know for sure whether I’ll go to the UK in August. If I go, it’ll be a brief visit and will not include anything other than a stay in her apartment where I’ll have to quarantine. That much is certain at this point. I can’t imagine the UK loosening its policy – to let me roam the streets of London – now that it has extended other Covid restrictions for “at least the next four weeks.”

  4. I see a few…very few…businesses that continue to employ some regulations. Oddly, many (not all) Chinese and Thai restaurants out this way have not ended restrictive policies. My girls get birthday cakes in Marshfield and have since 2007 when they made my daughters wedding cake. The small bakery continues its restrictions.

Several churches I know of are either fully remote or limit attendance. Most seem fully open. I understand the pops fourth doesn’t fall in step with our current policies or lack of them, but I applaud them for doing what they feel is best.

Baker extended the right for town boards to continue to meet remotely, including school committees. That one gives me pause. A seven year old pointed out that adults who are fully vaccinated can meet remotely while DESE has forbidden schools with children (most of whom are not vaccinated) to be in person….with only minor restrictions.

We are a very curious nation.

    1. Yes, indeed, it’s a mish-mash. I’m okay with relaxing and even abandoning restrictions for most outdoor events, but am very uncomfortable with no limits indoors. Even fully vaccinated, I’m not comfortable in a crowded indoor space. It’s why I do wear a mask in indoor public spaces, and I also distance (try to) in indoor spaces.

      1. I do hope that before this year ends though, masks will be no longer be required on public transportation.

  5. According to Gov. Baker, should boosters be required, there will be no designated mass vaccination sites. He expects boosters to be available at pharmacies or at your PCP’s.
